Most fans agree that Nintendo had a mixed showing at E3 this year, but could their lack of new Wii U game announcements indicate a bleak output in 2016 and beyond?
The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new record by selling over 3 million units within 24 hours, tripling the PlayStation 4’s previous launch day sales.
Its crazy that it's both the highest selling console on day 1 and people can walk into a store and buy it with no pre order
Unlike the Switch 2 , the Playstation 4 was not sold on the same day in most regions.
Company skipped last year's event.
Not surprising at all.
I mean, they´ll be releasing a new console in a few weeks.
Nintendo has announced its financial results for the full fiscal year, alongside an update to Nintendo Switch shipments and more data, including a prediction for Switch 2 hardware and software.
well, the switch 2 has two holidays in the us, thanksgiving and Christmas.
so id say its fairly possible. the rest of the world will also grab them
Switch and Switch are a different kettle of fish. A sell out at launch by the diehards, strong sales, then the non diehards will be put off by the £75 ($99) games, including the stupid download cards which are topping £65 ($85). Not rocket science to work out how the Switch 2 is going to pan out. The PS5 has sold well, but games at £70, sales have been low. As game sales drop, prices will rise. Sony could knock out all their games for £40 and still make a killing selling more games. There's no denying that a gaming crash is looming.
Not paying for something that's not worth more than the price it was advertised, which is $449 - $499.
Wii U is pretty much dead. It's pretty obvious the console won't be supported much longer.
The official NX announcement will be the final nail in the coffin.
They've already stated that Zelda still be coming to Wii U next year, and given the fact that NX won't release till 2017, it's obvious that they'll continue giving it games up to the last moment to prevent drought backlash.
How many games is up in the air, but it certainly won't be anywhere near zero.
Seems like Nintendo is pulling the plug on the Wii U for the most part; a few games coming out through the end of this year, then very little in the works for next year. They really need a viable product to replace the Wii U ASAP, which is why the NX will probably release in the Holiday 2016 timeframe.
If NX is another gimmick-based system with mediocre specs though, it will be DOA. With Iwata still in charge, unfortunately, it is likely that the NX will underwhelm, just like the last two home consoles did (and handhelds too for that matter). Iwata is just too caught up in making the cheapest possible hardware, to keep manufacturing costs low, which is why the Wii and Wii U ended up being such low-spec devices.
They are saying the NX is a "new concept", which is a bad sign of yet another possibly gimmicky system. Let's hope it doesn't follow that pattern.
Pretty much, with the next big game being Zelda all this E3 did was solidify that Nintendo is cutting back all production for the WiiU.
I said in earlier posts that I was on the fence about purchasing a WiiU and that their E3 showing was going to be the deciding factor if I purchase a WiiU or not. With the "big" announcements of a Amiibo party game and Tennis game for WiiU, well that pretty much put all desires to purchase a WiiU to bed.
Yet Wii U 2015 is as strong if not stronger than any system
