Just bought Re;Birth 1 during that flash sale. I haven't played the series before, but if I take to it then I have at least three more RPGs for my Vita.
Anyone else buy that during the flash sale, or have any experience with the series? The battle system looked interesting to me.

"have any experience with the series? "

I've played 1, MK2, V, Action Unleashed, Noire, Re;Birth 1, Re;Birth 2, and Re;Birth 3 and can tell you it's a mixed experience.

The story is usually more about character interactions instead of whatever the plot is suppose to be. The combat system is also fun, but it's also very shallow. Every Neptunia game has a linear progression, so you use gear, better stuff is added to the store, you buy it and repeat. The combat system also rarely requires you to do anything besides spam triangle and then a special or EXE move to finish big enemies. Probably the biggest problem with these games is that there is a lot of reused assets. Neptunia has been reusing the same XYZ monsters since at least MK 2 (many of them also appear in other games made by the same developer), I know a number of locations are reused in Re;Birth 2, Action Unleashed and Re;Birth 3, so these games feel like budgeted rereleases.

Anyway, if you want a paper thin RPG that is filled with silly jokes, you'll enjoy it. If you want a deep RPG with strong characters and depth, you'll hate it.

Thanks for that feedback. :)
When it comes to RPGs, games in general, I like pretty much everything but party games and sports titles. I won't get all long winded on you(as easy as that'd be for me to do), but yeah the things it seems to exceed in are also a good option for that "quick play" game, along with maybe a game I spend more time playing at once. I'm sure I'll notice what it lacks, so I really can't be disappointed, especially since the reused assets will be nothing to a first time viewer, so that knocks that out. Anyway, nice speaking with you!

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Generation – Ultimate Nep

Gary Green said: Today’s review actually comes as a request from a reader who took the time to message me. I’m always happy to listen to requests, and whilst I can’t always accommodate every single one, there are certainly times where I can, especially if it helps readers make an informed decision about where to start with a complex, long-running franchise, and, of course, makes for a fun playthrough for me.
