"When the first game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series was released in 2010, very few people thought that the title would launch a franchise that has seen a total of four main series games, plenty of remakes, an idol spin-off, and even a SRPG spin-off. As such it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when Idea Factory announced that the next spin-off would be an action game. What is surprising is that the title, Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed, would be developed by the Senran Kagura developers Tamsoft. So now that this action game takes our favorite characters and drops them into a battlefield, is Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed worth picking up?"
VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "Console wars have been around pretty much since the dawn of videogames, but the Hyperdimension Neptunia series makes light of these arguments by personifying consoles and their manufacturers as cute goddesses and has them battle it out for supremacy. It proved to be a sleeper hit for publisher Compile Heart, who after an initially shaky start with the first entry transformed the series into its most compelling franchise."
Idea Factory’s games are so often full of life, exploding user screens with vibrant color, beautiful art, memorable characters and addictive gameplay. Unfortunately, Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed does little justice to the Neptunia franchise.
SG Gaming Info writes: "Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed is a rather boring brawler title. While the game retains the franchise’s humour the combat gets boring quickly and the story isn’t that interesting."
