Star Wars: Battlefront Alpha Test Requirements & Selection Clarified; No Death Star Map in the Game

DICE developers clarified the PC requirements and selection process of Star Wars battlefront's alpha, and they also mentioned that there won't be a death star map.

Frankly, from everything I've heard of this game, it sounds like EA is playing this one safe. Don't know how I feel about it.

Summons753617d ago

Oh course they are playing it safe. It's not like BF4 where they can release it half finished and people eat it up. Not only do they have gamers, who for the past few years have grow to be the largest group of entitled little kids, to please. They also have the entirety of the Star Wars fanbase....most of whom are unable to be happy with anything in life (look at unjustified hate toward the Prequels, Disney buyout and the convoluted EU clear) AND they have Disney probably hovering over their shoulder making sure they don't screw this up with how massive a title this game is as well as how much of a gamble making EA the only publisher to make Star Wars titles and this the first title in years.

seeing how the first 2 Battlefront game were just casual fun, it so good that this one is more casual fun than the over-complexity and over-complicatedness of Battlefield. Folks said they DID NOT want a Battlefield Star Wars and if it had all that over complicated crap, that exactly what it would be. They're not necesarily playing it playing it safe, they're keeping to the general casualness and fun of the first 2 Battlefront games. Cant wait for this one.

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said except for one thing.

"Unjustified hate toward the prequels."

How is it unjustified? They are terrible movies lol. Even most people that aren't Star Wars fanatics think they are garbage. And you can't even say that Star Wars fans didn't give the prequels a fair chance either. Back when Episode 1 came out, Star Wars fans flocked to the theatres to see it. Tons of them across the country even camped out and tail gated. NO ONE was more excited for the prequels than the SW fanatics. The justification was there. They are terrible films.

I think it's because Disney is behind this one. As big as EA is, their deal with Disney is putting pressure on them, which means they have to make sure this is a big success to keep their Star Wars game deal with Disney.

I'm in the alpha so im happy =)

Larry L3618d ago

I'm totally getting this game day 1, and I'm fine and even happy with the new directions EA and DICE are going with their take on BattleFront. However, I will say that my personal MAJOR disappointment with this game is the lack of iconic locations for multi-player maps and the story missions.

3 huge locations that really need to be added are the Death Star obviously mentioned in the title. Obvious story mission there.........dog-fight on the surface, then the trench run. Sure, they said no space battles, but you just treat the Death Star like a planet. Bespin......trying to save Han then a battle against Vader and his 501st in the carbonite chamber. And a BIG one missing for me is Yavin 4. Jabba's Palace would round out the whole package.

Battle of Jakku will be free luckily but I doubt the rest will be as well :/

Hopefully they won't have a big DLC policy but just provide a couple of maps for free and release one big expansion, maybe tied with the Rogue One movie release in 2016.

This way you can have a good game supported for 12 months and played for 18 - 24 months extensively until a sequel or other game pops up

pompombrum3617d ago

DLC and EA? What's next, the sky is blue?

-Foxtrot3617d ago

@elazz

To me the free DLC they are doing there seems to be cut content but made to look like free extra content as a way to disguise their crappy DLC ways and make them look like good guys

_-EDMIX-_3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

Agreed.

@Fox- Nope.

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

http://www.lazygamer.net/dl...

and DICE and EA have done free DLC for years, the BF series has always had some sort of free dlc a couple times during a BF run, ie maps, weapons, new modes etc. I'm a long time fan of the series and can tell you very much, that this isn't new from DICE, or quite frankly EA.

As much as people may hate them factually they have provided free DLC with many games along with paid dlc.

Also, even if you don't believe its not "cut" you might as well apply that to ever game ever made that has post launch content. I'm not sure what knowing it was "cut" or not actually does...its not your game, its not your studio, its not your IP etc. You are buying a game they are providing, they are free to cut what they feel from the final version.

If I'm writing a book series and it has 3 books, because I started on book 2, does that mean I should just add it in book 1 based on book 1 not shipping or being published yet?

Why?

Its not for you to decide. They are not shipping a game and then after you buy it, removing stuff you already paid for...thus its not "cut" as it was never yours to begin with. DICE has always had a separate team that made DLC, look at the credits and you'll see after many DICE games, you'll see the staff involved in its dlc development, it a whole nother budget all together.

http://www.polygon.com/2014...

I always question, what is "cut" of something that technically isn't yours to begin with? Its like ignoring that no BF or no Smash Bros, Mario Kart after DLC has ever even launched with all that content for folks to be claiming um..."cut" as if any of those titles even had a damn history of having THAT much content.

At some point we have to recognize that 40 maps in a damn game isn't the norm and never was.

I'm fine with Star Wars BF getting DLC as DICE does a fine job with DLC (all of their teams do). I have well over 200 hours in BF4, no DLC purchased to date. Hell, I may not even buy the DLC for Star Wars BF.

No deathstar...WTH man....

ShadowKing-3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

from what i can see there rebooting the franchise from what i researched the death star was not in the first battlefront which is what this is supposed to mimic the first battlefront, now i could be completely wrong but i think they said something along the lines a while back and i think there just adding side stories which represent the new movies coming out. im not that big of a star wars geek, i just like swinging lightsabers.

but i dont think will see the debut of deathstar til the 2nd battlefront unless of course its dlc later

-Foxtrot3617d ago

So more content that should be in the game that we can expect as DLC.

This game could be bursting with content if did right

uncharted563617d ago

This should not turn into another evolove situation where they are selling dlc at launch and afterwards for ridiculous price whereas the game seems to be lacking it at launch. As long as they have tight fun gameplay and 13-14 maps I think I will enjoy this game. Might be the first fps I get since battlefield 3 and black ops 1.

DillyDilly3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

No Death Star rescue ? Come on EA no space ships are involved in that you pieces of crap
