Yu Suzuki is currently doing a reddit AMA for Shenmue 3 Kickstarter and as expected, he gave some detailed answers for the campaign and its stretch goals.
Holy crap 0.0 Wow fans are really supporting this game. Hopefully it doesn't dissapoint them and turns out to be an amazing experience.
This game is going to be game of the century
I wouldn't care if it came out looking like an dreamcast game I JUST WANNA KNOW THE STORY!
Less talk, more action - have you pledged for Shenmue? I have. I've also pledged for another interesting KickStarter game, The Lost Pisces: https://www.kickstarter.com...
Pledged my 100 the first day sir.
Is it just me or has the kickstarter pledges just stagnated in the last two days? Well if they want 10 million for a open world game, let Sony pay for the rest.
The majority of pledges are from the beginning and end of the time given.
By creating a $60 pledge for a physical ps4 copy and a $100 pledge for a special boxed ps4 edition, they could double the funds easily.
well, that wouldn't be all to economical for them, considering that's mostly general retail in game production. overall, it would end up being a very minor profit per.
That was always going to happen. It was never going to go up like it did in it's first day. Towards the end i can see another big increase.
The guy(yu suzuki) is retiring to a cuban jungle with kickstarter money , doing a movie called shenmue 3 of his adventure of drugs , filth and debauchery , that was the end to the protagonists life when he gets older you see , played by the creator , perfect.
Seriously SEGA should be funding this game entirely. They should be ashamed for letting Sony come in and fund most of their own IP with the rest being left up to Kickstarter.
SEGA have had their chance for 14 years. They a going to regret ignoring their fanbase.
I agree at this point in time I hope most of sega IPs go to kick starter how many time we gotta say we want Yakuza we want PSO2 we want a new sonic adventure. I'm starting to think Sega just hates money
I'll be honest...I haven't heard the name Sega in years...I thought they were dead.
The ks has slowed down the past couple days I really can't see it reaching 10 million in the 31 days, thinking more like 5 or 6 tops.
I agree, $10,000,000 in a month is very ambitious but not very likely, i can't see it happening. $5,000,000-$6,000,000 is a more realistic.
Big Kickstarter games usually get a boom of money until they get the funding. Then slow down, then by the end there's an even bigger boom of last minute pledges. Happened to Mighty No. 9, happened to Bloodstained (the most successful Kickstarter game with 5.7 million) and I have no doubt it will happen to Shenmue. A game that unlike the other 2 that are spiritual successors, is actually a game people have been aching for for years.
One of those rare moments when I'm actually proud of gamers, this'll be worth it.
People complaining that Sony is helping fund it is completely dumb as hell. The game has huge word of mouth now by them showing it at their conference and only an idiot would think Shenmue 3 of all games would be funded with only 2 million. Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny worked together at Sega for years so you can see the relationship between the 2 already grow. People should be thanking sony for funding however much it is or otherwise it wouldnt be quite the game it's going to be. Thanks also goes to the backers on Kickstarter, they are the ones that are really putting on that extra coat of excellence this game needs to live up to!
@Dabigsiebowski I can see where u are coming from but these are the same types of practices that people accuse MS of being sleazy for! Sony spent 50 million on DLC for COD, but want fans to spend a couple million to get Shenmue going??? Asking the fans to pay for something that you (sony) can clearly fund yourself is a bit dirty IMO. Then there is the excuse of "gauging interest". If that is true, the millions the game has made so far proves there is a massive interest, so why not give the money back? Sony has just used the fans to help them pay for a game that they already planned on funding, how is that a good thing? I will be playing it for sure but I will not be funding the kickstarter....it just doesn't feel right.
Sony spent $50 million on a sure thing and was hesitant to back a project that was considered a reach. That is just good business sense. CoD, regardless of how much WE might like it, is basically a license to print money. Even in the so called "stagnating" times, it STILL manages to best any other franchise in sales when it comes out. Shenmue has been on ice for the better part of 15 years! That is a risky venture. Sure, they knew that there was interest in the title. However, the kickstarter proved that there was clear intent to purchase. Plus, believing that $10 million is enough to fund a true sequel to Shenmue is silly. (especially considering that it was one of the most expensive franchises to build in it's time) As for "giving the money back", why? At this point, kickstarters have done nothing more than essentially pay off a pre-order. (at least at the lowest level of donation). There's nothing quite as nefarious as you describe here. It's simply a safe way to determine if customers that claim that they are interested will actually spend money. If this were a sequel to a newer game, I'd have some reservation as to the intentions of Sony. As it stands, I have no problem with a company playing it safe with a 15+ year old franchise.
@iceman Dude..you talk as if Sony bought exclusive rights to COD...they bought limited time D... L...C,for 50 mil. The game AND the DLC is coming to xb1. So they are willing to spend that amount for bragging rights but not completely fund shenmue?? GTFO...this is a bad business practice and is not consumer friendly at all. I find it funny that when Sony does something shady, people like you like to call it "business" but when MS does it it's wrong or bad. When MS wasted money on cod DLC it was bad for gaming, Sony does it it's business, MS gets "timed" exclusive for tomb raider, people flip out, but Sony gets FULL exclusive rights to Street fighter V,again....its just business. Sony really has you guys mind [email protected]
Would gladly pledge for a hard PS4 copy. Please make it happen.
I just checked now, and the highest stretched goal is $5M.
