Speaking with a Kadokawa representative, it seems that Dark Souls III is going to be the last with Bandai Namco. The publisher doesn't want to change the game but From Software is ambitious and wants to introduce an open world in the series.
if they mean open world like witcher or edler scrolls?.....sounds VERY interesting.
OMG! Can you imagine? Instead of monsters spawning in predictable areas, you'd actually have tough monsters randomly come at you.
I hear ya! and add in FROMs always great combat plus great, creepy atmosphere!! also, you know they'd have loads of great treasure, armor, weapons...etc...to find.
If Bandai Namco doesn't want to publish a Dark Souls game that doesn't stick to the traditional formula, I'm sure that Sony would be happy to co-develop another game with From Software, much like Bloodborne and Demon's Souls. If Bandai Namco really is holding From Software back, then good riddance.
Yes I'd say it's time for the Souls games to try out a fully open world. Of course not as open as The Witcher or Skyrim but something in the direction of Shadow Of Mordor could fit nicely. Still I'll take whatever they're releasing as the Souls series comes closest to my definition of the perfect game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying The Witcher 3, but the combat is the only thing holding it back from being one of my all-time favorites. If From Software could somehow make a game with the scale of The Witcher 3, the level design of Souls (I'm assuming there will be "dungeons" throughout the world), and the fast combat of Bloodborne, it would be perfection.
enemies will hunt you and haunt you...
I've felt for a while now that we need a souls-like with a persistent, shared world where new areas keep emerging from the fog. I had hoped that a Dragon's Dogma sequel was going to develope in that direction.
I'm kind of mixed here. I loved the contained world of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Would an Open world mean less concentration on the labyrinth-like design of areas? Please, I hope not.
Open overworld with dungeons would be great. In a lot of ways From Soft has been making the 3D Zelda games I've always wanted ever since they began Souls, and this would pretty much be the ultimate action-adventure RPG if they had a dynamic, living-breathing world combined with their meticulously designed dungeons.
I hope you played this then! https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...
I don't know about this. The tightly designed hand crafted design of the Souls series is one its best qualities. With Myazaki at the helm though I trust that it will be interesting.
If they're moving from Namco I wonder if this means they want to self-publish or if there will be a scramble for other publishers to snatch it up. I'm sure MS and Sony would be ****ing their pants to try and make this an exclusive.
that was my first thought as well! :(
Please no. Souls games has always had excelent level desing and open world would ruin it. Open world games are fun but they usually just boil down to lump of open spaces and lack of detail and focus.
right, if they are going to do that, they should make it a new IP
I spend half my time in open world games looking at maps, travelling and doing busy work. I'd rather they kept the semi-open structure they have now I don't know why everything has to be open world now
Souls games might be the only franchise I'm not so keen on being fully open world. In a way the first Dark Souls was open, and it was absolutely perfect. Then again whenever I play one of the open world games nowadays I just keep thinking it should have a better combat system, like Dark Souls (I'm looking at you Witcher). It might be worth a gamble, but not under Dark Souls name though.
An Open world Dark Souls game in the same vein as the Witcher 3 makes me EXTREMELY aroused.
Only thing that sucks is i want an open world Dark Souls now! And we wont see the next one in the series until like 2018 :(
I have wondered since Demon's what a true open world would look like in the vein of the Souls series..... Then I realized, its King's Field. So yeah, if Miyazaki can capture some of the level design of THE Souls game with the openess of Kings Field, we will once again be looking at a masterpiece. I have complete faith in Miyazaki right now, so what ever he wants to do, I'm buying it day one.
I don't think open world would work for the Dark Souls formula. One of the things that makes it so fantastic and unique is the interconnected world design which provides both elements of freedom and linearity.
To me this translates to "skip DSIII and buy DSIV" ... I liked the original but never could get into Dark Souls ... as a result also skipped DSII and Bloodbourne or w/e Thankfully TW3 was not DOA
Not every game needs to be open-world, but i really trust From Software and can't wait for Dark Souls 3. Also Bloodborne 2 and Demon's Souls 2.
Who's that guy who maDE dark souls one and blood borne ? Let him do what ever he wants he's a genius .
