I really hope they pull it off! :)

I'm a huge fan of the Resistance games, and this game reminds me so much of those games. Doom is bringing back the weapon wheel, health packs, and hip-fire gunplay (no aiming down sights), which is my style of game. I truly prefer the oldschool FPS style gameplay rather than the boring un-inspired gameplay we see in realistic military shooters.

I just can't get over how much this game reminds me of Resistance 3, and that makes me so glad! When I heard that Sony had no plans for the Resistance franchise any more, a piece of me died on the inside. But this truly make up for it!

The problem is Doom is supposed to feel like Doom.. not any other game, the new Wolfenstein got the feel down of feeling like Wolfenstein.

But this game, I'm not so certain.

I've not played Doom, but from what I've seen of it I certainly felt this was a different kind of game from the original.

My impression of the old Doom was:

i) It was a lot faster. This new Doom feels slower than the recent Wolfenstein games.

ii) Weapons are the exact opposite of hitscan/instant hit with many "spray" type weapons that lag behind character movement slightly (creating the need to adjust your aim/movement). I didn't see much of this in the new Doom.

iii) The chainsaw cut through hordes of enemies quickly lending to unrelenting momentum, whereas in Doom 4 its more of a comparatively long canned animation.

iv) The enemy count in the old Doom games was a lot higher and enemy attacks were faster.

Again, I've not sat down and played the original Doom, so these are just casual observations.

CanadianTurtle,

Ummm... I just want to make sure that you fully understand that the original Doom came out in 1993. And there have been multiple releases since. So... If anything looks like anything (according to you), it should be that Resistance looks like Doom. Not the other way around - hence all of the disagrees, including mine.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.

It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

Weird games in general we don't get enough of, we need more games like Katamari and Mr domino, things like that
