Final Fantasy Versus 13 Was Not Changed, It Was Canned.

"Now in case you missed it Final Fantasy Versus 13 was changed to Final Fantasy 15, with that we were promised that the games vision would stay the same. Many people thought this to be true, but as time went on, piece by piece the Vision we were promised was taken apart."-Takuchat

Truly sad to see it, I wish we could somehow get it back. Sad day.

averagejoe263667d ago

No. Please keep that cheesy looking game away.

So much happier with how the game looks now. Looked like a cheap kingdom hearts rip off with FPS elements at first.

never4get3667d ago

FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII 2011 Trailer vision looks very similar to Final Fantasy XV 2013 trailer

NoctisPendragon3667d ago (Edited 3667d ago )

@never4get

FF XV E3 trailler is the game we are going to get (it was the prototype , we will get the same gameplay with additional stuffs like magic and weather system ) and it didn't have any KH like gameplay .

kreate3666d ago

I played the demo from final fantasy type o and there was nothing special about ff 15.

It seemed pretty generic to me. The demo sucked, but maybe the game will be good, although I don't have much hopes for it.

SlasherXI3667d ago

Yeah I think it looks better right now, but still it had a nice feeling to it.

-Foxtrot3667d ago (Edited 3667d ago )

Yeah Versus looked much better then what we have now.

Like I've said just Tabata trying to put his name on the map by changing as many Nomura related things he can

Why would you let a guy who's only big game directed has been a spin off, with a long awaited main game. It's like Kojima (back then) handing MGS VI to Shinta Nojiri (Acid).

KingKelloggTheWH3666d ago

That is exactly how it seems to me as well, it is horrible. Kind of like how Tabata down playedThe Music creator recently.

Godmars2903667d ago (Edited 3667d ago )

People honestly aren't getting the fact that Square is only saying what they think people want to hear? Don't comprehend how far removed that is from what's actually being offered?

Not that Square isn't the only one doing it, but still.

Also, regardless of actual content, what's being offered is still the original project. Though that project was announced far too early.

plmkoh3667d ago

Yep, the original content and vision is pretty much 'identical' to what we see now. They've merely changed old assets to fit a new direction.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

KingKelloggTheWH3667d ago

Have you seen the trailers? It goes from dark and brutal to buddy trip where you fight animals.

seppo913667d ago

@KingKellogggTheWH

Yes, and Nomura stated a long time ago that that was in VSXIII to. We just didn't see it in a trailer until now.

Adrian_v013667d ago

The fact that they removed Stella, who was a very important character in the original game, and had to write a new one with her own story to fit the new game tells me that what we see now isn't pretty much 'identical' to the original vision.

Tei7773667d ago

@KingKelloggTheWH

You're simply basing that off the tone of the earlier trailers which showed only a tiny, miniscule portion of what verus XIII was like. The road trip, a world map and fighting monsters in a field and were already shown in later versus XIII trailers which gave a better look at te game, not just one CG cutscene (watch from the 4:40 mark https://www.youtube.com/wat... Those road trip elements were always a key part of the game as you can see above and Nomura also talked about them. Its a 30+ hour RPG, it wasn't all going to be set at night in the same city with the same tone throughout.

Equally what we've seen of XV is only a tiny portion of what the game has to offer, it'd be like judging the whole of FFVII from a short demo where you run around chasing Yuffie

_-EDMIX-_3667d ago (Edited 3667d ago )

Agreed. From what I've seen, besides a few changes, the concept is still the same. The biggest change is from open map format ala FFVII,IX etc, they are fully open world with not open map.

But we haven't seen enough of 13 to actually say XV is some brand new, 100% from the ground up game. What that is saying is Square spent 8 years making a game...then fully got rid of it...then 2 years making this game from scratch. That is very hard to believe, not from a publisher like Square that spent 8 years on 13, only to just scrap all of it, that is very doubtful. I feel MOST of XV is 13 in the Luminous engine.

I've never heard anyone from Square just say they got rid of the last game.

http://www.polygon.com/2013...

Notice what Nomura is saying. "Changed platforms" "shifted" platforms, ""I wanted FF15 to be as seamless as possible" Thus....its what he wanted for the game all along, regardless of platform, regardless of being um "13 or 15" that wasn't some change due to it being called 15 as from what I'm reading, that change happened 2 years after it was announced.

I don't feel what happening with XV now is a change based on it being FFXV as he states regarding the action gameplay "our direction hasn't changed" in regards to being a numbered FF title now.

Meaning that you would have seen those gameplay changes even if the game was ready to come out on PS3. We just don't know enough about all of FF13 Versus to really say how much has changed and why, but I don't think its a lot as it doesn't even sound feasible for them in such a short time to remake a whole game open world, full assets, differently.

http://www.siliconera.com/2...

“Afterwards, with the latest set of announcements, we said that the director has changed, but it wasn’t something that happened abruptly. When we transitioned to new hardware, the characters and main point of the story had already been solidified by [Tetsuya ]Nomura.”

“Things like the content, techniques, and how to make the game better are some of the topics we’ve continually discussed with Nomura, the development team, and the management.”

pgerv123667d ago

As long as they keep to Nojima's original story as much as possible, I'm fine with it. While it is sad to see quite a few things we've seen over the past 9 years no longer a part of the game, I do like how they're fitting the story to be standalone.

Godmars2903667d ago

Given that you don't know what the original story or its direction was, how will you know?

pgerv123667d ago (Edited 3667d ago )

I don't, but Nojima's work has been very well done and I like the stuff he does. I have faith that he wrote a very good story and if FFVersusXIII was really "canned" then it would mean starting all over, not just reforming a character and toning down the maturity (considering Tabata was behind Type-0). Like the article says, we'll just have to wait and see.

Daggerjack3667d ago

Lost interest in this game after playing that demo. Seriously.

NoctisPendragon3667d ago (Edited 3667d ago )

Surly because you don't know what kind of demo it is (an Alpha/early acess ) .

Even the 2.0 update doesn't look like the 1.0 version at all , unless you don't like the characters i don't see how you could link the demo to the final game .

Sgt_Slaughter3667d ago

Well, just hope KH III won't be overhyped like I'm fearing.

Six Times When Games Turned Into A Horror Game

Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!

Immediately thought of the El Dorado zombie dudes in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

raWfodog44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.

Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.

NettosGameRoom43d ago

That scene where you first see them attack is pretty crazy!

Relientk7743d ago

I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.

always liked 15, but the development was shch a shitshow. it could have been so much more.

but Tabata did a good job with what he had regardless

DivineHand125178d ago

Ff15 was a missed opportunity from square as they transitioned from turn based to real time.

One of the issues is that it was 30 fps. The combat mechanics required precision dodges to activate Noctis teleport ability and it was difficult to do at 30 fps. I am glad they rectified that in FF16. The story and flow also felt like it went through a chopshop similar to how some live service games end up when they are trying to meet a deadline. Those extra episodes they sold as dlc should have been in the maingame.

FF15 is one of the weaker entries in the series.

Z501178d ago

Dodges don't activate the teleport ability. Teleport was R1 + O. Dodge was just the O button. Explain the Black Hood (the item that automatically Dodges for you)

TheNamelessOne178d ago

Ah yes; FF XV.
The beginning of me coming to the realization the series was no longer for me.

Michiel1989178d ago

16 was a lot better, I think 15 was just a big mess with how development went and all. The music though, one of the best in the series, probably the only reason I finished the game.

Cacabunga178d ago

At least FF15 had RPG elements . 16 was just an action game from beginning to end.

Michiel1989178d ago

I rather have a good action game than a bad rpg with 2 button combat

Cacabunga177d ago (Edited 177d ago )

Then call it something else then FF. I got scammed with FF16. Nothing of what i expected it to be.
Even the action is bad in it, especially after the demo section where absolutely nothing happens until the very end.

FF15 isnt a great game but it has some variety at least.

CrimsonWing69178d ago

That initial trailer with the Leviathan fight was the game I wish we got. The actual retail release was watchdogged to all Hell and while there’s enjoyment to be had in the game, it’s such an incomplete product and so many elements feel so slapped together without any cohesion.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I loved fishing, cooking, and the first third of the game, but I much rather they made a story that didn’t feel barely there and the the last third of the game didn’t feel so rushed and unfinished.

Becuzisaid177d ago

Every time a party member left for a period of time screamed future paid dlc. It was horrible.

Imagine Dagger and Steiner making the party go to sleep in Lindblum in FF9 disc 1 and then taking off to Alexandria by foot themselves, but then never playing their side of the adventure in disc 2 when they smuggle her through the South Gate in pickles, take the cable car and fight the Waltz, head to Treno and start the quest to find Supersoft. They just eventually reunite with the main party in the future without explanation of what went on in their adventure.

Or Sephiroth's backstory in the famous Kalm flashback being added as a dlc pack. Same goes for Vincent, Cid, or Yuffie for that matter.

Oh and anything to do with Jenova, the Ancients, Aerith, her mom and Gast, shoved into a 2 hour CG movie or 5 hour anime ministries that's considered required viewing for anything in the main game to make sense or have characters actually be interesting.

I enjoyed FF15 at the time, and finished it, but it's bright spots are marred by a bad development cycle and a worse marketing scheme.

CrimsonWing69177d ago

What’s sad is when I watched a vid on the entire story (that wasn’t properly told in the actual game)!it was really solid and could’ve been one of the most epic stories in any FF. I think a lot of the compilation and cross-media stuff really f*cked it all up.

gurp178d ago

FFXV was underrated in my opinion
I have played all of the final fantasy games, and I loved this game
turn based to me takes too long, I like active battle
the extra dlc and chapters should have been included in the original release, but it is nice that they fixed the game later

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled430d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?
