ARK: Survival Evolved Sells 200,000 Copies within 48 Hours of Early Access Launch

Castle Pyramid - If major publishers and developers have been too scared to gamble on a game featuring dinosaurs, then they should take some hints from No Man’s Sky and ARK: Survival Evolved. While No Man’s Sky impressed us with its vast scope, and ability to transition from ground exploration to space exploration seamlessly, seeing those dinosaur-like creatures was also something that sparked interest. ARK: Survival Evolved has also turned heads for its impressive graphics but also because it features dinosaurs. So how has that interest panned out for the indie developer? Studio Wildcard has stated that ARK: Survival Evolved has sold over 200,000 copies within its first 48 of release on Steam Early Access.

I'm probably gonna get this on PS4 when it releases there. Open world survival game with dinosaurs sounds too good to pass up.

BigBosss3661d ago

Been watching YouTube videos on this game and even though it's early access and have bugs and all, game still looks really good and fun! Can't wait to get this on the PS4 when it comes out :)

Man, now I feel like watching Jurassic Park movies lol

SeanDKnight3661d ago

I plan to get this on Early Access myself when I've got the funds for it. I've been waiting for a game like this for quite a while.

Hopefully, its success will get someone out there to make a good Turok game.

Perjoss3661d ago

Its a great game and worth the price but right now its highly unoptimized, so unless you have a top end rig or really want to help by reporting bugs and playing the game on low settings them maybe hold off for a few weeks.

My rig is 2 gtx 980 in sli, 16 gig ram, 17 5820k and I still have to play it on medium for a frame rate of around 30. It is totally playable though if you're willing to turn down settings. Hopefully in the next few weeks they can work on optimization.

I thought about getting this game until i read Nvidia gameworks will be involved.I'll just wait to see if the devs will work with Amd so we won't have the same driver issues Amd gpu owners had with Project Cars and The Witcher 3 to name a couple!

SeanDKnight3661d ago

I don't blame you for waiting. I'm getting really tired of PC gamers being punished simply because they purchased one GPU over the other. Then again, most of the fault, from what I've seen, lies with Nvidia. That company has really become an arrogant bully over the years.

Peace_Love_and_FPS3661d ago

Tomb Raider didn't work great on my GTX 970 either, but it could max with a lower AMD card, it's really a bummer when developers do that.

Either of you guys think you'll do cross-brand SLI when DX12 comes out?

acekaze3661d ago

I have the game atm, the game is really fun, but its one of the most unoptimized games i have ever played, if you dont have a strong pc, and want to get it i would advise to wait at least 1 month, since they promised the optimization will be the most important step during the 1 month.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

how does it compare to Turok 1 and 2. If you played those two games.

Petro3661d ago

The game is nothing like Turok really.

acekaze3661d ago

Nothing to do like turok, the closest exemple i can give you is RUST with dinosaurs, very similiar to rust actually,

if we had to compare it with an old game, what i would say would be trespasser, a big open world, with alot to explore, and dinosaurs trying to kill you, while you try to eat them!

StrayaKNT3661d ago

If I purchase it can I connect a xbox 360 remote and play it on pc?

SeanDKnight3661d ago

The game features controller support though I don't know which controllers can be used with it. But it would be a safe bet that a 360 controller should work. That tends to be the most supported controller on PC.

Mikefizzled3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

Fancy that, A game in early access that hasn't been optimized. People are buying this and expecting it to be a finished product.

Mega243661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

So, I've been torn between this and Batman: Arkham Knightt, don't know what to get. Batman is a complete game, but Ark has space to grow into probably a new popular Rust type game. Decisions, decisions...

Peace_Love_and_FPS3661d ago

Well, get ark, find a Dino, kill it, chop it up and boom! Ark-ham, juicy and good to eat :)

(Yeah that was reaching a lot)

TheLeapist3661d ago

Make a bunch of it, throw a party after sunset, call it "Ark Ham Night"

Day one on Xbox for me! Need to sort out a PC
