This 'Uncharted 4' Box Art Is Lazy And Boring

Amazon appears to have unveiled the official Uncharted 4 box art recently, and it’s an image that we’ve become very familiar with over the past year or so. We’re familiar with it not only because it’s been included in other Uncharted 4 promotional materials, but also because it’s basically the same box art we’ve seen on half of the video games that have come out in the past five years. There’s a dude in the middle looking down, holding a gun in his right hand. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before — see Battlefield, Mass Effect, etc., etc. It reminds me a little bit of the debacle surrounding the BioshocK: Infinite cover art, which took a complex, unique story and seemed to portray it as a dudebro shooter.

As for those saying the box art is boring, I completely disagree, it seems to suggest a darker theme for the game and I like it much better than the Uncharted 1, 2 an 3 box arts.

I do think it looks pretty boring and uninspired but at least it doesn't have the orange/blue contrast, so there's that.

It's just a little bit irritating to see that AAA companies still think the most generic stuff possible has the biggest appeal, when in fact it's a complete myth

PS4 or not, the cover art is rather generic and like a lot of other games, and this article makes sense given that Bioshock Infinite got attention for doing the same thing. A guy walking towards the camera with a gun in his hand is kind of lazy and boring.

Read the article first.

The author says UC is one of his favourite series. For him, it's too generic/boring, like Bioshock Infinte, but also, he seems to be worried that the game might follow a grimmer tone, as represented by the cover. He made comparisons to previous covers, such as the Uncharted 2 cover, which was a lot more 'adventurous' feeling.

It would be nice to have some cool boxart though. I remember back in the 80's and 90's game covers were very original. These days every cover is the same. A single man standing in front of the cover with a gun.

Another example of uninspired boxart would be the MGSV box art, it's horrible.

Sony games are games just like any other. It's not like everyone wants to bash Sony or see it's exclusives burn. When n4g is full of praise for a PS exclusive that's hailed as one of the best games ever made,(that's happened with so many PS exclusives) it's all good. When the opposite happens, it's all because of people being unfair to Sony.

As for this article - UC is one of the author's favourite series. As a result, he had some concerns related to the box art and what it might represent in the actual game.
Personally, while the game cover might be generic in view of other game covers, I think it makes sense as a progression from the previous games. Drake's expression says it all. That isn't the point though.

One negative article about Sony's first party lineup, and then this, a week later, about Uncharted Box art, and that's too much 'negativity' for Sony ? Come on, what does this article even have to do with Sony ? It's about the BOX ART of a game that happens to be a first party Sony exclusive.

If box art doesnt mean much then why even ship it with a box.. do you want something ugly or nice looking sitting on your shelves?
