This 'Uncharted 4' Box Art Is Lazy And Boring

Forbes:
Amazon appears to have unveiled the official Uncharted 4 box art recently, and it’s an image that we’ve become very familiar with over the past year or so. We’re familiar with it not only because it’s been included in other Uncharted 4 promotional materials, but also because it’s basically the same box art we’ve seen on half of the video games that have come out in the past five years. There’s a dude in the middle looking down, holding a gun in his right hand. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before — see Battlefield, Mass Effect, etc., etc. It reminds me a little bit of the debacle surrounding the BioshocK: Infinite cover art, which took a complex, unique story and seemed to portray it as a dudebro shooter.

While I agree with them...who gives a flying ****? Its box art. Its probably the only thing one can complain about with the game XD

iTechHeads3661d ago

If you're buying digital it's irrelevant anyway.

As for those saying the box art is boring, I completely disagree, it seems to suggest a darker theme for the game and I like it much better than the Uncharted 1, 2 an 3 box arts.

ShinMaster3661d ago

The box art is ok.
But I guess it could have been a bit more exciting, like Uncharted 2 and 3.

Azzanation3660d ago

Your missing the point if the article, weather you care or not, its doesn't change the point of the article.

PX543660d ago

Less time focussing on the box art = more time focussing on the actual game...

I do think it looks pretty boring and uninspired but at least it doesn't have the orange/blue contrast, so there's that.

It's just a little bit irritating to see that AAA companies still think the most generic stuff possible has the biggest appeal, when in fact it's a complete myth

kreate3661d ago

Well.. what kind of box art do u want?

Orbilator3661d ago

I think the whole article is a lazy and boring attemp at getting clicks

ChickenOfTheCaveMan3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

And that's why NA doesn't get those artsy or subtle boxes art, when a title decides to go with it, it's being called boring.

Anyways, must be a slow day in the video games world to write about this.

placeholder graphics.. who's to say for sure that's what the final box art will look like?

Nosred3661d ago

I agree,much hype for little.

Rimeskeem3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

because the box art dictates how good a game is going to be.

gosukyomomma3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

Isnt that the same thing with a reading book cover though? And what is the famous quote on that - never judge a book by its cover...

Same goes for games, i couldnt care if the case was blank with just the title on it as long as the game inside is good.

Don't feed the trolls. Bubble him down and move along. Read his comment history. A blatant MS fanboy that hates all things Sony.

FarEastOrient3661d ago

This Forbes writer must be stuck in the Atari era. When awesome boxart equals awesome gameplay, geez step into reality.

This guy is a troll. So just mark him down for trolling and move along people.

the_dark_one3661d ago

Oh god, i did this comment once and will do it again, forbes.com lol,
we all know you can only talk crap about ps4 (ps3, vita). Whats going to be next... that the text on the back cover doesnt make sense? Or that it say you will need 47gb of free space but in truth you will need 48gb? Besides whos to say thats the final cover for the game? You guys juat like to bash Playstation

Skate-AK3661d ago

Even worse. The pictures on the back of the case doesn't show any HUD, therefore it is not indictive of gameplay and false advertising.

Lamboomington3661d ago

Sorry, but that's stupid. Stop bringing fanboyism and console wars into this, it's just retarded, and doesn't allow for any actual discussion.

PS4 or not, the cover art is rather generic and like a lot of other games, and this article makes sense given that Bioshock Infinite got attention for doing the same thing. A guy walking towards the camera with a gun in his hand is kind of lazy and boring.

the_dark_one3661d ago

stupid? STUPID!? where have you been, just check forbes articles about ps4 and show me any that talks about ps4 in a fair way and not just bashing it, cause thats all they do towards PS. any ways the cover is like so many others, and from uncharted standard its pretty normal.

Lamboomington3661d ago (Edited 3661d ago )

@the_dark_one

Read the article first.

The author says UC is one of his favourite series. For him, it's too generic/boring, like Bioshock Infinte, but also, he seems to be worried that the game might follow a grimmer tone, as represented by the cover. He made comparisons to previous covers, such as the Uncharted 2 cover, which was a lot more 'adventurous' feeling.
