The guys of Gaming Boulevard deliver their review of Splatoon and see it as a great start for something new.
Bought it the first day. * It's definitely different compared to every other shooter I've played but I really like the differences in this game. They are good differences, the kind I can appreciate. * Tons of small little details you just won't find in most non-Nintendo games. * Really solid music so far. Each Stage has it's own theme and that plaza music is nice as well. * Something about splattering paint everywhere in this game is satisfying. Just firing the ink guns in this game is satisfying. * The controls are smooth, the frame rate is smooth outside of one match I've played. * Some games I'm playing against 4 Japanese players and yet there is NO LAG. That is much appreciated. * The use of colors in this game is also a nice little touch that might go under appreciated by most. * With Splatoon, it's all the small things it does right, more so than the one or two bigger things it does wrong. * There are already new maps available since launch, daily new gear, can order gear from others, new maps on the horizon, + whatever they announce at E3 for the future of this game. * It's being supported long term so if I like it now, I don't see why I won't continue to enjoy it in the future. * I can't play 4 hour sessions of it, but picking it up to play 10-15 games is consistently fun, and the fun level never drops. * As a fan of FPS and other shooter games going back to Goldeneye 007 and earlier, I can say that Nintendo definitely hit a solid double to the gap with this game. Not perfect, has room for improvement, but it feels really fresh and is a welcome addition to the shooter genre. * I'd give it an 8.5/10
just give up! this game is decent at best
No my friend. This is one of the best games I've ever played in my life. This post below is from the heart and I mean every word of it. Well, I've got to say I'm really impressed. Now look, I'm a Nintendo fan and have been for many years. I know very well that Nintendo doesn't make bad games, so I knew from day one this was a must buy. But, what I didn't know, was that Splatoon would be my favorite shooter I've ever played in my entire life. I cannot believe how utterly and thoroughly addictive this game is. And insanely fun! This is a BRILLIANT concept- shooting the ground with paint and fighting for majority coverage- and I'm genuinely shocked nobody has thought of it until now. For all the years this genre has existed, only now do I realize how stagnant and generic progress has been. Before Splatoon I thought space boots were innovative (CoD) and mechs were a game changer (TitanFall). Ha! This game put the entire INDUSTRY to shame. Yes, shame on them for regurgitating the same shooters for 30 years, and here Nintendo comes out of the gate with a winner to top them all. Man I love this game! It has quickly become one of my favorite Nintendo franchises, up there with Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem and Donkey Kong Country. This game stands tall and proud among its brethren, and rightfully so. I would be devastated if they did not continue this franchise in the future as a 1st party staple of the genre.
How about you take your own advice?
It looks great. My brother just got the triple amiibo pack just the other day and I can't wait to give it a shot myself come summer break.
I love the campaign in this game but the MP is bad. There is only 1 mode and it lacks the most basic of online features. You can't even back out of games or switch loadouts between matches. This game would have probably been more successful if it wasn't advertised as a MP game.
It has two modes online, you've gotta reach lvl 10 to access Ranked Battles right now but they'll soon be unlocked globally. And despite its issues, the matches are still quite fun, so I wouldn't call them bad.
I am level 11 and ranked is not accessible. And ranked isn't an entirely different mode it is just Turf War ranked.
I'll be lvl 10 by the end of the day tomorrow so I'll be able to confirm if it unlocks early on my own, but I can tell you right now that you're wrong about Ranked battles being just ranked turn wars. There's one specific zone in RB's that you have to keep control of for the longest to win.
Game is dope! ME and the entire family played so much we had to keep recharging the WiiU pad (and we have the extended battery), SERIOUSLY cut into my Witcher 3 time, but the game warrants it. I might have to pick up another WiiU so I can play my games from time to time. We ALL got down on this game. KUDOS NINTENDO!
