Besides not being the Xbox 360 version not being featured in Square Enix's latest financial report, a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed to GamerCenterOnline that Rise of the Tomb Raider is still in development for Xbox 360.
Its being made by a diffrent studio, so wouldnt make much sense to cancel it.
I think that's a bad idea. They shouldn't let another studio make it because if it turns out bad it wouldn't look good for Square Enix
I can't put much stock into that narrative. It's most likely being ported by another studio, but what is the game going to be completely different on the 360? I can't see how it wouldn't be the same game w/ lesser technical ability & at most a couple of gimped features. Wouldn't make much sense to have a completely different or even fairly different title on the older platform & still have it be released under the same name. Look at what Ubisoft did w/ AC Unity & whatever the last gen version was, those were two completely different titles marketed as such, the only marketing we've seen for Rise is a single game on multiple platforms, not two entirely different games. Maybe it'll get delayed on the 360 as they wrap their heads around figuring out how to make it work on the system but I don't necessarily see it being cancelled either, but its really anyone's guess.
BUT WHYYYY. Come on. Let the new gen begin.
No worries, it is just like Forza Horizon 2 as the main developer is developing for the XB1 and using all the resources for it and sourcing out the x360 version to another studio. The x360 will have no effect on the xb1 version. http://m.egmnow.com/article... In the latest issue of Game Informer, Square Enix head of studios Darrell Gallagher confirmed that Crystal Dynamics, the series’ main developer, would only be responsible for the Xbox One version, with Netherlands-based Nixxes tasked with bringing as much of that experience as possible to the older console. Gallagher said the move was made to ensure thatRise of the Tomb Raider could be “an Xbox One title without limitation,” rather than something intentionally designed around ensuring it could work on outdated hardware. “At the same time, the Xbox 360′s ecosystem is still super strong,” he added. “There are millions of players out there who have an Xbox 360 and those console translations take time. So we did a test. Nixxes put together a tech demo of Rise of the Raider content running on Xbox 360, and we were totally blown away by what they achieved. But the existence of that game isn’t limiting our work on the Xbox One version.”
All of the level design must be possible on the 360 though. This means that it is indeed holding back the Xbox one version. On XB1 it will without a doubt have way better graphics and performance than the 360 version, but it will still be the same game.
Because some people can't afford to jump on this gen yet. $400 is still a lot of money for some people.
Oh well. I'll be waiting for the ps4 edition perosnally got both consoles but i want it on the better hw.
I have the PS4 version pre-ordered at GAME xD
@jay2 Better hw isn't going to be better than playing it on the better controller and network. Anyways you can wait :) ill be playing this gem day one.
Whoa whoa whoa... I have both consoles and I love them, but I use a DualShock 4 for PC gaming. I love the DS4. Both controllers are incredible though. Just grade A effort from both companies this gen on the controller.
Alot of people prefer the Dualshock 4, theyre both great controllers. And what does network have to do with ROTTR, a single player game? We all remember how awful TR's Multiplayer was... Stop the fanboy nonsense
The X360 has the better controller & the Party chat actually works, it also has all the halo games on it while the x1 only has 4 (proper games - no twin stick shooter)
Well, that's cool to hear for 360 owners, but does this mean it'll be a dumbed down experience for X1, or so advanced it'll have trouble running on 360?
Nope. Not at all. It will be just like Forza Horizon 2 as the xb1 version is night and day compared to the x360 version. A third party studios is responsible for the xb1 port and all the resources will be from Crystal Dynamic on the XB1 version so it is more like a first party exclusive. My best bet is they'll dumb down the graphics so far that it might not look as good as the last game, but it will play well enough. The company behind the 360 version has some experience with tomb raider, as they did the ps4 version, so i have some hope it will be an alright port.
Cool for 360 0wners
Doesn't bother me. Separation is definite. The 360 version of Horizons 2 was a shadow of the X1 version.
last gen is like an std that wont clear up and its spreading to our new games. luckly most of the main AAA dev's will no longer make games for laast gen. gamers follow the games.
Good for Xbox 360 gamers. I'm lovin' the new Microsoft attitude :)
