The Last of Us 2: Where Does The Story Go?

It should go without saying but just to be super duper clear if you haven’t played and beaten The Last Of Us you are entering spoiler territory.

Because the original game was so utterly fantastic combined with the fact that E3 is just around the corner what better time to aimlessly speculate on what direction Naughty Dog might take for a Last Of Us 2.

Anywhere it wants and I'll be there day 1 to play it.

showtimefolks3406d ago (Edited 3406d ago )

I for one want questions direct sequel no here is why:

spoiler alert

The last of us didn't end with the 2 old now safe and a cure for the infection so it can continue with the story being Of survival and building a safer world. In which you have to go gather supplies and other things to survive

Like state of decay now imagine that gam3 being done with a proper story done by ND

Oh yeh

But that's just my opinion. Whatever ND does I will support it day one no doubt

Saithraphim3405d ago

I second that, the ending of the first part really setup a sequel and I'm curious as hell to see how things play out.

Relientk773406d ago

If it's Naughty Dog, I'm game

Meltic3406d ago

dont Think Naught Dog will be in the LOU2... and if there is Another dev working on it... they will surely get help from naught dog. Borrow some stuff and meaby hire the same actors ???.. devs can get access to other devs files if the other devs says Yes ofc.

hells_supernova3405d ago

First of all what are you basing that on? Secondly if Neil writes the game I would have no problems with that, as after gravity Neil stated he would like to work on a game based in space like that.

johndoe112113405d ago

This has to be one of the most baseless comments I've ever seen.

bOObies3406d ago

If there should even be a sequel, right? A lot of hipster, game reviewer, cynics think there shouldn't be one...But I for one would love one and would buy it without thinking twice, but with Uncharted 4 coming out this year, I wouldn't expect to hear any news about TLOU for a few more years. They wouldn't want to steal any fire from UC4.

SimonSmith3406d ago

Just to clarify to your point announcing a sequel to the Last of Us this year would not hurt Uncharted 4, particularly when the game won't arrive until sometime next year.

hells_supernova3405d ago

Also completely different games

xX_Altair_Xx3406d ago

A prequel - I want to see Joel, Tess and TOmmy's life between the outbreak and TLOU - I think it's a 20 year gap, surely something interesting must have happened.

mafiahajeri3406d ago

Boring, I would rather become a butterfly wte their called and you would be hunting down Joel and Ellie as a special squad established to hunt them down...

iamnsuperman3406d ago

If Sony is adamant about making another The Last of Us, I would rather they have separate self contained stories with each instalment.

The Last of Us 2 Factions 2 Was in Development for 4 Years, Cancellation Resulted in Heads Rolled

The Last of Us 2 Online mode often referred to as Factions 2 was said to be in development for four years, with a team "in the hundreds."

TheNamelessOne41d ago

The original was so good. What was the issue here? All they had to do was basically recreate what they already did.

Lightning7741d ago

Not that simple Sony wanted a LS Factions. Not just a recreated Factions 1.5

40d ago
Cacabunga40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

All ND multiplayer were top notch!! Uncharted were so fun and engaging. Online coop was a total blast 💥

Maybe they were trying to release Factions 2 as a gaas using the name of the series as a selling point and didn’t work out?

StormSnooper40d ago

I think they simply were not happy with the end product and decided not to dilute a masterpiece of an IP with something lackluster.

Jin_Sakai41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

“The original was so good. What was the issue here?”

This issue is that Instead of making improvements upon Factions they chose to go big and chase GaaS.

shaenoide40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

@StormSnooper The game is dead. To be successful a Gaas needs regular content. And you need a lot of people for that. Palworld is another exemple not enough content the game is dead too.

StormSnooper40d ago

No, gaas is not the problem. There are good gaas games. Helldivers is an example.

Cacabunga40d ago

Storm

There are also so many trash ones.. what are you trying to say?

Crows9040d ago

Leadership....that's it. After 4 years...it's all on leadership.

isarai40d ago

Well with how much care part 2 had put into it, I think they just decided to put factions to the side to get that over the finish line. Then shortly after they wanted to expand the multiplayer which delayed it even more. And then they wanted to convert it into a games as a service title which I think changing gears that many times just shattered what was there and just wasn't coming back together well enough to ship

jambola40d ago

Even if they wanted a full version, I wish they could have put a smaller version in the game, even as a teaser
at least then we could have the same as the first game

jambola40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

@shaenoide
dead? Palworld literally has 20k people playing at this moment on steam alone
that's huge, in what world is that "dead"

P_Bomb41d ago

Shoulda kept it simple and released a new Factions with the Remaster.

RaidenBlack41d ago

Incomplete Factions 2.0 is still >>> Concord

babadivad40d ago

What, you don't want to play as a robot with pronouns???

generic-user-name40d ago

This, the only heads that should roll are the ones who greenlit Concord while letting Factions get cancelled.

Chocoburger41d ago

They didn't need to go LIVE SERVICE route. Just release it as a standard multi-player game without the GAAS trash.
An unbelievable waste of time and money all for nothing.

attilayavuzer40d ago

Really an incredible bag fumble by Sony here. A sequel to a beloved multiplayer mode of a beloved franchise. This should've been a lay up that printed money for them. Only potential silver lining is that ND isn't stuck in GaaS development purgatory for the next 10 years supporting it.

Crows9040d ago

But they need competent people heading the studio....otherwise it breaks down...

Cacabunga40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Herman and Jim decided otherwise..
i am actually glad the gaas obsession seems to have vanished from Sony plans with all these miss ups

spiderman 2 $40 from $70 so it's priced right now as a expansion pack like MM.,

andy8554d ago

Pretty decent expansion pack then saying i got 30-40 hours out if it.

just_looken54d ago

I can get 30hours out of a job outside does not mean it was good.

But i know no matter what i post or prove people love there nerfed spiderman or playing as a blind person for 5 hours then mary jane shehulk for another 12hours.

I am so glad today's "gamer" was not around for the ps3/360 era these new gamers are way to easy to please and have killed gaming.

andy8554d ago

It was good though. Are you actually saying it wasn't a good game? And blind? The person you play as was deaf and it was 10 mins not 5 hours. Doesn't seem like you've even played it by that comment. And MJ was...30 mins at most? Not sure how you get 40 mins into 17 hours exactly

CobraKai54d ago

@just_looken

I’ve been playing since the Sega Master System. I love Spiderman 2. There’s too much going for it to be a simple expansion pack. I felt Miles Morales could fall into the expansion pack range.

If you didn’t like it, it’s fine. That’s what’s great about opinions, there are no wrong ones, just different ones.

StormSnooper53d ago

You guys have to understand, they don’t have anything even close to it on his preferred system. There is a whole psychology behind his comment.

lol I was in the ps3/360 era and spider man 2 would of been a massive hit still.

Please don’t try to represent us gamers from that time. You are not a good example, always complaining and being negative lol.

CobraKai54d ago

@just
I mean, it’s New York. You can’t exactly change the map.

It sounds like you’re hard to please vs gamers being easy to please. You mentioned great games. Games whose sequels had very similar gameplay with each other with very minimal changes or upgrades.

Im with pwnmaster. Don’t speak for us. It sounds like probably only started gaming from PS360 era.

Rebel_Scum54d ago

Peter Parker lives in New York, where else do you expect the map to be?

Using the same map/location is not a problem.

On topic: In my region the base game is $80. Still not low enough for me to dive in. Not that Im in a rush. Havent even finished the 1st one’s dlc yet.

just_looken54d ago

The map still has asset's buildings the the first game its like madden yeah same stadium but can you change that madden 14 logo?

Not to mention they never added shield basses basically unique interiors you can explore off missions or add in jersey.

pwnmaster300054d ago

Sony pony??
Are you a child? Lmao

Just stop man. It’s embarrassing.
We can like games and not be a fanboy.
Gaming shouldn’t be taken this serious. Relax lol

just_looken54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

"lol I was in the ps3/360 era and spider man 2 would of been a massive hit still.

You come at me calling me a bad example talking like this game is gods gift to us and on any sony article you defend them no matter what.

But now i am a child? what because i used logic again this site you throw facts at people they cry to the admins to get me off here again or play the victim card.

pwnmaster300054d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Lmao gods gift to us what. I said it would have been a massive hit not a perfect game. It’s a good game get over it.

And this is why I said what I said.
“ But i know no matter what i post or prove people love there nerfed spiderman or playing as a blind person for 5 hours then mary jane shehulk for another 12hours.”

And you’re still proving me right. God forbid people like a certain game.
And BS about me on every sony article defending them. I like games and praised every games I

“ But now i am a child? what because i used logic again this site you throw facts at people they cry to the admins to get me off here again or play the victim card.”

Your opinions are not facts and the fact you think they are is sad. Step off video games for awhile.

just_looken54d ago

Na its fine you go ahead belive 200 million dollars makes sense for 1 game when 80 created a trilogy on 360.

I live without blinders unlike others.

pwnmaster300054d ago (Edited 54d ago )

“I live without blinders unlike others.“
🤣😂🤣 thanks for the laugh. Have a good night brother. Fight that good fight your fighting.

StormSnooper53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

He is a duplicate account. He changes names to get a new lease on life and people would respond to him. Sad indeed.

MetroidFREAK2153d ago

Definitely more than an expansion pack... the Miles Morales game from 2020 is that... ya silly goose

Playing The Last of Us Part II Is Different After Watching The Show

Has HBO’s The Last of Us show changed fans’ thoughts on Naughty Dog’s sequel, The Last of Us Part II? Maybe.

"Everyone in the world of The Last of Us sequel is miserable in one way or another. I mean, it’s the end of the world, we understand that, but there came a time when the game felt like it was written by Garth Ennis – and that’s not always a good sign."

It is not close to feeling like Garth Ennis's comic book style. Garth is a good writer and his writing isn't all tension either, and the same with Druckman's Last of Us II. In romantic comedies, there are comedic tension and rejection with bouts of misery. In dramas, there are bouts of comedic relief among tension, which are also in the game and this awareness is a good sign.

In the end, everyone dies and everyone is miserable at some point in time, even more so in an apocalypse. However, life is mixed with happy moments while entropy is moving in the background, such as a nice time with family and laugh shared amongst friends and so on, which are in the game.
