Sony Admits 1st Party PS4 Games in 2015 "a Little Sparse;" 3rd Party Exclusive "Difficult to Secure"

During the Electronics Investor Relations Day 2015 Sony CEO Andrew House talked about first party and third party games on PS4.

A little sparse indeed.. A bit of time is being taken to get the ball rolling.. just have to patient I guess.

I'm waiting for Uncharted 4.

Rimeskeem3684d ago

2016 seems to be the year of First party studios for Sony at least

bouzebbal3684d ago (Edited 3684d ago )

what i like most is how well spaced exculsives are.
The Order in February, Bloodborne in April, USFIV in May, Guilty Gear Xrd in June, Until Dawn in August... plus of course #rd party releases in between.
at the time of PS3 we got like 4 exclusives the same month.

bennissimo3684d ago

I got into an argument with a tool on IGN after saying this exact same thing.

I love me some Bloodborne, but that game will not hold me through December, and Sony's lineup isn't looking too good through the end of the year.

At least I have my X1... and the perpetual hope that the PS4's lineup will eventually catch up with the quality of its hardware. :)

JetP06193684d ago

dont forget we also get persona 5 in 2015 for ps4 in the west.

SniperControl3684d ago

@bennissimo

Tell me something, what exactly have you been playing on your Xbox since november last year?

Crimzon3683d ago

Xbox only gets games in Winter. PlayStation only gets games in Spring. It sucks either way you slice it.

scientificreasoning3683d ago

At Bennissmo...so what are you playing on x1 for 9 months this year? Nothing..People dont care if a game is exclusive or not, ps4 hasd a better lineup all year. This "Holiday" only list war nonsense is embarassing. Games still matter if they launch in March,

Gazondaily3683d ago (Edited 3683d ago )

Well even House is admitting what many on here would not and I don't see what there is to defend. Bloodborne is the best first party title this year anyway though and a possible GOTY so it does mitigate that element to a large extent, well for me (and fans of the game) anyway.

Also, it is interesting to note the attempts to secure 3rd party content by Sony. Whilst the importance of that should be obvious anyway, do expect a similar approach to Microsoft last gen in this regard because now that Sony have such a massive lead, they will feel less pressure to deliver first party titles than Microsoft.

Lumping up Uncharted with the fiscal year and construing it as a 2015 release in that sense isn't really going to matter that much to us lot, aside from guessing the release date like the author has.

Is this an indication that there might be little to show for 2015 releases as far as E3 is concerned? Who knows. I do expect some unannounced 2015 titles to be announced though (or very early 2016 titles).

poppinslops3683d ago

He's not gonna answer, so allow me...

Before I bought Wild Hunt, I was playing State of Decay, Forza, Sunset Overdrive (got it last month), Lifeless Planet, Titanfall (despite what you've heard, people still play it), Ori and even the occasional round of #IDARB with da boyz (what we lack in talent, we make for with drunken abuse)... also Dragon Age, Telltale's Game of Thrones and Worms (another great game for multiplayer drunks).

It doesn't matter when a game releases - it's quality is all that matters.

Yeah, I'm jealous of Bloodborne and Driveclub probably doesn't suck as much as people say, but the rest of the PS4's exclusive lineup is bland... I've played Infamous, Littlebigplanet, Killzone, Octodad, Knack and the Order and I didn't want to finish any of them.

Mr. House's comments do little for my enthusiasm.

That said, Persona looks great.
As does Uncharted and Wild... I have my doubts about No Man's Sky, Everybody's gone to the Rapture and Rime, but the other three (and Bloodborne's inevitable GotY edition) will likely be the games that finally sell me a PS4.

Until Dawn sure won't... or Planetside or Street Fighter or the Tomorrow Children... or Godzilla...

Okay, I've said too much - back to the Witcher I go... thank God it's not an exclusive.

Farmassy3683d ago (Edited 3683d ago )

I think the only exclusive that I really want to play on the PS4 is bloodborne. That game looks amazing but I am not impressed with the rest. I don't care if your releasing games year round. I need GOOD games not mediocre ones.

I will admit that there have not been a lot of exclusives for the X1 so far this year. Ori was fantastic but it was not a full AAA game (still took longer to beat than the order though). I have not had any moments where I did not have anything to play on my X1 but most of those games so far this year have been multiplats or betas (Halo 5, fable legends, smite).

On a side note. I'm wondering who has been playing SMITE. I just got in to the beta a couple days ago and I have to say the game is extremely addictive.

"do expect a similar approach to Microsoft last gen in this regard because now that Sony have such a massive lead, they will feel less pressure to deliver first party titles than Microsoft."

I think this is spot on. an interesting reversal of roles has happened and it has even extended to fans of each console. The mindset that is... We all know what NPD reports on N4G were like from 2006- current gen launch. The xbox guys had the sales to brag about..silencing talk of great PS3 exclusives with a simple "the sales speak for themselves"..which always favoured xbox (NPD..and lets face it USA is the largest hardcore console gamer demographic. Thats why the region matters so much). This gen..as Xbox comes swinging out the gate with great exclusives but lackluster sales ..the PS fans shut it down with that same "teh sales" response. Xbox fans sound like PS3 fans last gen. And PS fans sound like xbox fans , last gen.

Its been interesting to watch, to say the least. fans and the companies in question. Even sony's choice of third party tie ins...destiny...starwars...may be COD..im starting to see a theme here and it looks awfully familiar to an xbox gamer. *sips tea*. Street fighter was a smart grab though. Microsoft owe sony a hurting for that, for sure! lol

@scientificreasoning
"At Bennissmo...so what are you playing on x1 for 9 months this year? Nothing."

lol, you so silly! :) I only got mine at Xmas but Ill throw my hat in the ring with ya. lets go:

I got the COD Bundle. collected all my GWG games along the way. I had supertime force and Max:COB six months before I even had an X1, while getting bored of infamous. That game became a chore to finish. Just felt too familiar. When I got it at xmas I bought Halo:MCC, FM5 and Titanfall ( was on sale on XBL for a tenner including the season pass) and BF4 premium in the Xmas sale.(again, before I had the box) Saw FH2 digital delux edition in the xmas XBL sales..so I bought that too. I am a loooong way away from completing FH2. I still haven't even finished FM5. And I cant seem to finish that..because of neverwinter. ori bought it. Haven't played it because I still haven't finished my other games. as bad as I want SSOD I haven't bought it because I haven't even finished my other games. I have only just started halo 3 on MCC!Dont know when Im gonna get to start playing nero. Or lifeless planet. I bought em. I want to play them. But I still have so much game left in my other X1 exclusives. I may never get good at KI because of this. Too much games on my harddrive. Good thing I hate the 1 tb console and a 4TB HDD. Im close to 50 games. Notice how I didnt even mention the multiplats I play on X1 like BF4 and hardline? or Pcars. or GTA.

So tell me again how I as xbox gamer am starved for exclusives right now. Tell me again how I dont have games from now till fall when halo 5, FM6 and tombraider arrive. Or indies like below, cuphead and inside..Like I wont be playing fable legends, smite, gigantic and elite dangerous to pass the time. But thats assuming I actually finish my two forzas (oh poor Pcars, just sitting on my HDD. I will get to it soon enough. Damn you, neverwinter)or can pull myself away from MCC online...oh yeah Its tough been an xbox gamer, for sure...

PS. How many times are you gonna complete bloodborne to pass the time? I could only do it once....

andibandit3683d ago

@abzidine

"what i like most is how well spaced exculsives are. "

surely the games would be what you like the most?.

MysticStrummer3683d ago

"It doesn't matter when a game releases - it's quality is all that matters."

That logic doesn't apply to PS4 though, apparently.

More games last year, more games this year, more better reviewed titles overall, yet these "discussions" still happen.

Crimzon has once again gone into full fantasy mode, as seems to be his shtick. What he said wasn't true about either console.

WelkinCole3683d ago

You guys forget that Sony has the most 1st parties and most are working on titles and have yet to release most of them.

SM, PD, ND for example still have major projects to release and these are just a few of their big studios.

The roles have not reversed. MS are just finally getting it in their thick head this gen and understand that 1st party content is critical and are now trying to catch up.

It is amazing how hard you guys try to downplay the number of 1st parties Sony have already released or are working on and will release in due time.

What is even more amazing is the fact that you guys have not had any meaningful 1st party exclusive since nov last year and will be the case until later this year and yet you guys are here talking about sparse 1st party release?.

Incredible.

KakashiHotake3683d ago (Edited 3683d ago )

I remember people saying the same thing in 2014 and 2015. Maybe 2017 will be the year? Oh well back to Witcher.

skratchy3683d ago

@bennissimo

"At least you have your X1"? Was that sarcasm, or have you just been playing Titanfall for the last 15 months?

subtenko3683d ago

Sony's got GOOD spacing for all the Playstation exclusives. We dont have to fight over which game gets our time n sht.. our wallets arent getting gagged. Life is good!

itBourne3683d ago

Just a curious thought, I never EVER see anyone mention MLB the Show as an exclusive, despite being almost unanimously the best of any sports game on the market. Kinda erks me, and LBP has never got near the respect it deserved on any of their releases in my opinion. To bad it wasnt a PC game, would of had 10x the fan support = /

showtimefolks3683d ago

Abzdiine

That's what xbox fan boys just done get and will never get. I respect sony for this reason so much, they release games throughout the year yet ms holds everything back. Than comes fall and ms will release all their games with 2 to 3 month window

I rather have games all throughout the year

What iF sony released blood borne and the order in fall, than fan boys would be whining about not having any games throughout the year

uncharted collection
mgs5
batman
mad max
just cause 3
god of war 3

I have a lot of games to look forward to not just exclusives

2015: All Playstation (PS4) Exclusive Games (255+ Games with screens inside)

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz...

Stapleface3683d ago

Most of those don't have solid release dates and I don't think remasters count as those games actually released years ago. But still quite a few, just a lot of them are niche titles a small percentage will play. But still games none the less and they can't be faulted for not having someone's favorite genre or series covered.

LordMaim3683d ago

Holy Crap. Even discounting the portion of the games I have no interest in, that's still a huge list.

uth113683d ago (Edited 3683d ago )

Wow, I forgot about some of those!

I didn't see "Vanishing of Ethan Carter" there, unless I missed it?

@Stapleface- they won't all appeal to everybody, but everybody should be able to find some that appeal to them, or maybe they should try broadening their tastes?

itBourne3683d ago

Probably my favorite thing about the PC and PS4 market right now, EVERYONE can find a game they enjoy. Even the most niche games are being made. Pretty good time to be a gamer.

_-EDMIX-_3683d ago (Edited 3683d ago )

Its something I don't really get with gamers. Some how being "indie" or "remaster" doesn't count as a game or something?

Many likely didn't play some of those games when released last gen as no game on PS3 just did 80 million, no 360 game did 80 million, so clearly.....there is a market for those games.

"Indies" are still games. Its not as if someone seeks to buy a game based on funding, budget, ip ownership etc lol. Who the hell plays a game based on such a criteria? Anyone know the budget to Portal? Team size? Does it matter?

Does having an MP matter? Having a publisher matter? Games are games, the reality is....we don't know who will make the next Portal, or Walking Dead, or Castle Crashers etc.

Indies are still games and who is publishing, if they are owned etc shouldn't really factor in looking for a game.

Great games come from many different places.

Some of my favorite games last gen Walking Dead, Portal, Heavy Rain, LA Noire etc were not the norm of development nor convention in any regard.

Fun fact, Max Payne was done by Remedy when they only had 11 members. Anyone one of those games could be huge surprises. Don't sleep on independent, small teams with big dreams.

Portal did 4 million units...BEFORE a Steam release.

Little Big Planet, passed up by both MS and Nintendo until Media Molecule went to Sony and got it done, the first game did close to 5 million units before the end of 2010 (don't have a current number).

The reality is, we get games that might flop, it happens, Lair, Folklore etc it happens, but at least someone out there is supporting the idea of trying to release some new ideas and concepts.

Will we get some strange games? Sure, will some flop? Probably. But the ones that made the risk, deserve the praise afterwards. We can't just keep getting mad as certain publishers and calling certain games "flops" because they don't' have MP or are not HUGE shooting galleries...yet complain when we get COD every year and AC EVERY YEAR.

To seek those new creative concepts, one must also be in for the fact that they all won't just be JUST like every other game. How can we ask for new ideas, yet are mad that they are also not tradition, MP, co-op, 30 hours etc?

I'm fine with self publishing for BOTH consoles, its something that is really, really needed to breath new life into many gaming genres that many console games don't get to experience.

Early 2016 release of Uncharted 4 would be perfect IMO

Fro_xoxo3683d ago

good question.. I have no idea..
I guess that's what E3 is for..

styferion3683d ago

I don't see Sony having any problem before the first UC even released..

UC IP only just released previous gen people, Sony isn't like MS and Nintendo who needs long time franchise like Master Chief or Mario.. there'll be something to replace UC this gen eventually.

emilijo7773677d ago

Gran Turismo 7
God of War IV
The Last of Us 2
Horizon
Quantic Dream game
Media Molecule game
Guerilla Cambridge game
SCE Bend game
Sucker Punch game

3683d ago
medman3683d ago

Strangely, many of the games I'm looking forward to most are not AAA titles. I can't wait for No Man's Sky, Below, Rime, Wild, Inside, Cuphead, Abzu, The Tomorrow Children, Until Dawn, Alienation, Hellblade, What Remains of Edith Finch, Persona 5, Quantum Break, etc. etc. etc. That's not to say I'm not interested in what Sony Santa Monica, Polyphony, Quantic Dream, Media Molecule, Guerilla, Naughty Dog, Sony Bend, Black Tusk, etc. etc. are working on, but I can wait, I guess. With the 3rd parties like Batman, The Division, The Witcher, MGSV, SW Battlefront, and the like, that is enough to keep me busy.

Uncharted 4 could be released before March 31st?

Is that a confirmed launch window?

Abriael3684d ago (Edited 3684d ago )

Not exactly. They mentioned it as part of the fiscal year 2015 strategy, and fiscal year 2015 ends on March 31st.

That said, it's not a "confirmed" launch window until they say "Uncharted 4 releases before march 31st." explicitly.

The confirmed launch window is "spring." Putting two and two together, it could launch between the 21st and the 31st of March, which seems reasonable.

NovusTerminus3684d ago

Sparse yes, but I've still had plenty to play, so I am not worried.

Rookie_Monster3684d ago (Edited 3684d ago )

I actually agreed with this Dualshockers title, for once. Uncharted 4 and Ratchet delayed, and SFV is Sony's real AAA third party exclusive, but it is nice of them to let PC gamers still play this game.

KwietStorm_BLM3684d ago

lol nice of them? You don't think Capcom had anything to do with that?

Transistor3683d ago

Star Ocean 5
No Mans Sky
Dragons Dogma
Persona 5
Deep Down
Level 5's exclusive
Yakuza Zero

Sony has a bunch of "real" third party exclusives, that won't end up on other platforms.

q8kik3683d ago

No Man's Sky and Dragons Dogma Online will be coming to PC.

The rest are PS exclusives.

Moldiver3683d ago

The JRPGs are a given. Xbox gamers dont really go for those games anyway So they wont be missed. We already know dragons dogma and NMS will also be on PC ( NMS will eventually end up on X1 aswell. it will be a quick port from PC via DX12). Deep down is not even coming to the west. But good games for those that interested in JRPGs. Of the games you mentioned the only one I care about is the one that is not a JRPG..no mans sky.

I a more interested in GGs new dino mech game. or UC4, GT7 and the next game from suckerpunch (infamous :SS was mediocre but I still have faith in the team. every dev has a few missteps). SF5, Ill be buying on W10 store so it rather cheekily shows up on my xbox gamerscore. Plus everybody knows PC gamers are easy pickings on fighting games. Ill enjoy an unsually high W/L ratio. plus achievements. Could even stream it to my xbox via W10. everybody wins.

gangsta_red3683d ago

When is Deep Down coming, is it coming to the west? Has No Man's Sky's date even been announced yet? Persona and Star Ocean 5 is on the PS3 too. What's Level's 5 exclusive, when is that being released? Yakuza Zero...?

super_bruno3683d ago

I though they went back to the drawing board with Deep Down, If that is the case I don't think we'll see it release this year.

Transistor3683d ago

Deep Down is not this year and I should have said console exclusives as some games are on PC.

If they will anounce an Uncharted Trilogy Remastered and another exclusive game for the holliday i am happy.
I know that a lot of people will disagree for Uncharted, but there ar a lot of people that never played an Uncharted game....
And i think , if they anounce Untill Dawn for august , probably they have something for hollidays...
