Paul from DJ Podcasts writes "Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush is a colourful platformer that see’s you play the role of Kirby and of course the magical paintbrush in a bid to return colour to the once glorious Dream Land. With all the power delegated to your stylus pen, Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush mixes things up a little and tries new things. Does it succeed is ultimately the question?"
GGSP: I'm a bit torn. On the one hand, I'm really glad they made the use of gamepad's touchscreen but I missed the precision of a controller. In the end though, the sheer creativity of Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush won me over.

" Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, once again sees the happy little dream eater being led by the players’ deft brush strokes through a whimsical and visually arresting new adventure that, though not particularly challenging, is still an enjoyable romp all the same."
Dealspwn writes: "The Wii U GamePad is not a gimmick, but by and large Nintendo's first-party exclusives have struggled to prove it. Kirby And The Rainbow Paintbrush was supposed to change all that. Controlled exclusively using the touchscreen and stylus, it's an attempt to create an experience that could only work on Nintendo's excellent yet under-utilised peripheral.
Unfortunately Rainbow Paintbrush is too successful for its own good. "
