The single biggest change in the sequel is the health system. No longer do you pick up and use med-kits, as they switched over to the Call of Duty / Halo style health regen system. The damage you take is indicated by visual queues on the screen and there's also a health bar if memory serves me correctly. Another big change is that you can carry more weapons at once. Before you were limited to three at a time, which discouraged players from trying anything new, now you have an extra slot."
