Solid Snake is a pillar of the industry, and here PlayStation LifeStyle recounts the past, present and potential future of the battle-worn mercenary.
Metal gear solid on Ps1 one of the best games of all time. Snake is total badass
Still my second favorite game of all time, and my first time playing it was only a few years ago.
Na his father killed more shit and did it without the aid of otacon. What would snake do without all the inventions?. Though i guss miller is jacks otacon even though miller is annoying and useless. Every time i fire up mgs ground zeros im like miller STFU!!! Metal gear solid peace walker best all around mgs yet so much content there.
Peace Walker is my second favorite, but I like the story and characters better in the first one. Peace Walker is really underrated tho.
I've always seen Solid Snake as central to the brand of Playstation. His character and MGS as a whole is one of the things that got me taking video games seriously as a story telling medium and one of the core reasons I'm still a gamer to this day. It's a damn shame though we only really got to play him in 2 out of 5 of the 3D Metal Gear games. I mean what other franchise introduces such a great character and doesn't even have him star in the next game?
That's why I don't care about the next one. No snake = no buy.
except it is snake. Solid snake was a clone of Big Boss, which is in the next one. :)
"except it is snake. Solid snake was a clone of Big Boss, which is in the next one. :) " Technically, not really. Snake is the badass we all fell in love with in MGS1, not the guy he was cloned from. But hey, I'm satisfied. At least we got MGS4.
So hen you didn't play MGS3 which is arguably the best one?
The hero of Shadow Moses Island.
Playstation's? I don't think Sony agrees since he wasn't even in All Stars and is multiplat now. Anyway, can't wait for Phantom pain. Lets hope Hayter SS makes an appearance.
I knew some will miss the point of the title and the article in general and go with the exclusivity debate
There is no debate, Its all fact. Plus that's only half my comment, Its just weird for me to see snake called "Playstation's super spy" after all that.
Raiden is in All Stars and I'm pretty sure Metal Gear Rising is on the 360.
How dare you?! PlayStation's Super Spy is Gabe Logan!
He died though, someone with a heartbeat would be nice :-P
For real, how did that game end with him getting shot and that chick doing cpr on him screaming for help? Like, wtf? And it's been like 8 years since then. I want a freaking sequel where he wakes up in a hospital or something. Reminds me of half life 2 episode 2's ending.
Uh, he was in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for a reason...
The only Metal Gear that's exclusive to Playstation is MGS4, Acid and Portable Ops, but I get that Metal Gear made it's big breaktrough on Ps1
Depends on how you look at it. Metal Gear Solid was console exclusive (still is since Twin Snakes is essentially the same game, but it's a remake), Sons of Liberty was exclusive (Substance is not), Snake Eater and Subsistence were the entire generation (only being remade last generation in HD), and 4 is still exclusive. Peacewalker is n the same category as Snake Eater. I wouldn't even say they were timed. They were intended exclusives that were either remade by not-Kojima (i.e., Silicon Knights) or remastered during a different generation. It's definitely got a stronger PlayStation following than anything. Even the HD version has the PlayStation exclusive Transfarring feature.
You forgot that Metal Gear Solid also was ported to PC in 2000, although poorly.
No, I didn't. I said "console".
Raiden is better..
Said no one ever:p
You have to admit he's pretty awesome in Revengeance :) the other games not so much.
I like Big Boss the most. His journey and descent into darkness has been an incredible unfolding so far. From a story perspective, you can't help but see his pain, considering how much betrayal it took to get him to become the monster of Metal Gear that Solid Snake must eventually defeat.
Me too. Big Boss has a more interesting story imo, and his character has more depth. Solid is still a complete badass though
Agreed. The entire time, you're waiting to see what turns Big Boss into the villain and it's been very surprising so far. He lost his mentor, and not even that did it. The events of Portable Ops didn't turn him either. He even protected the US in Peacewalker. To see him finally have turned (likely Les Enfantes Terribles) will be interesting. I'd love to see the villain he becomes in The Phantom Pain. Color me excited. This, I expect, will be the game of the generation to beat. Given his story and suffering, I think replaying Metal Gear Solid 4 will be even more heart-wrenching during the ending.
How important is it to play Peace Walker to get the story about Big Boss? I have the HD remake but I have yet to start playing it.
I don't know much about The Phantom Pain's plot yet since I've been on mostly a media blackout, but Ground Zeroes makes more sense with PW. I think it'll help you understand a bit about the prosthesis, his mentality before and after, Kaz, and Paz's journal. I would definitely b recommend it.
