Lessons learned from the 'P.T.' Demo

Rob Manuel of [email protected] writes: "PT is dead, but like any visit to Silent Hill, nothing stays dead forever. Slashing and clawing through the virtual market, this playable trailer has left more than a mark on both fans and developers alike. And though we may never Kojima’s original vision of horror come to light, we can learn from the lessons left behind one of the most game changing demos of recent times.

It’s time to exhume the body of PT to pull out all the best pieces to keep alive in little bottles of formaldehyde. Hopefully, it won’t take two great minds trying to resurrect one of the most beloved series in gaming to create this kind of experience again. If anything, PT has proven that there’s an audience out there looking for more than just a cheap scare."

I was not dying for this like some are. Too me 1-4 are the only games you really need to play. 2 and 3/4 being a masterpiece of Silent Hill games. The rest were so damn mediocre. So my thoughts were hopefully Konami will hired Team Silent Hill again and return the real Survival Horror games back.

It always annoys me when people say a certain game can't be made since the original team is no longer behind it. If you can analyze, breakdown, and rebuild well enough then nothing is really out of reach. Sure it won't be the exact same, but it's not like great games are untouchable pieces of art.

The game is confirmed dead by Konami, so it's not happening whether or not Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are involved. The author isn't saying its dead because the primary creative forces are gone, but rather because Konami said it's dead.

Never announce a game more than 6-9 months before the release. We get so many games now that are announced way too early get hyped up them canceled or disappear without a word and we end up hurt. Make the game and when it is 90% done then announce it.

Look at Yooka-Laylee, most of the legwork is done. They know what they want and they are going to do it but asked for help making it better. Guess what the reveal brought us Music, concept art and GAMEPLAY and it will be out in October. P.T. was awesome and I would have loved Silent Hills but we wouldn't of had it until next year. Look at Agent, Prey 2, The Last Guardian. All games announced way too early. One is in development hell, one vanished off the earth completely and the other was canceled.

but we wouldn't have had P.T if that were the case. I dont mind games being announced with like a year left of dev because it gives me something to look forward to. Obviously it should only be announced if it's a dead cert though.

Agree 100%.
Announcing a game one year away is a little annoying. Announcing a game 10 years away is f&$#ing crime.
