Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor believes that Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s disastrous launch and long-running online problems are “definitely a black eye for us”.

“However, Halo 5 is being made by a completely different team. It’s a singular product. It was built from the ground up for this new technology, rather than being sort of dragged kicking and screaming from 2001 and forced and shoehorned into a 2014 console. So the problem spaces are still very challenging but they’re radically different. I think the beta is already a decent first step, in a retail environment, showing that we don’t have the same problems.”

Good to see 343i owning up to this. Experiences learnt from MCC should help make Halo 5 a much better game.

Just strive to make sure Halo 5 delivers on all fronts.a rock solid experience with no issues at launch.

Trekster_Gamer3293d ago

It will be most Awesome!
I have complete faith in 343!

Key words
"being made a by completely different team"
"completely different team"
"different team"

I hope people can read and understand that.

TheRedButterfly3293d ago

It's N4G, so I wouldn't count on it.

Spinal3293d ago

Agreed, the Halo 5 beta was fantastic, i've pre ordered the limited edition so im ready for Oct.

til then i'll be playing Witcher 3 in waiting :)

CerebralAssassin3293d ago

Honestly I would would have preferred halo 5 to be the failed game over MCC but that's inner child talking

How hard is it to make a game for a system that has already been made???

Why r u making excuses for them when alls they r doing is remaking some games???

Didn't seem to hard for Naughty Dog to remake The Last of Us..... just saying....

christocolus3293d ago (Edited 3293d ago )

Who is making excuses for them? and wth? are you actually comparing Halo MCC to the last of us remaster? Naughty Dog didn't have to port 4 Uncharted games with 4 different campaigns and multiplayer spanning over a hundred maps. did they? ND didn't also have to collaborate with other studios for The last of us remaster. Also each Halo game was made to run on two different engines on the go,which means you could switch between the classic and remastered versions on the fly(Halo 1 to 4). So i don't see why ND is even being brought up here.they only had to port one game.

vickers5003293d ago (Edited 3293d ago )

@christoculous

Not to mention Halo 2 is a remake, not a port like the last of us. So they had to reMAKE Halo 2, remaster halo 1, 3 and 4, implement playlist functionality that incorporates every game together, multiplayer AND single player, despite the engine switching. Last of us only had to remaster one game. They're not comparable, not in the slightest. In fact, as far as i know, the master chief collection is the most ambitious game remaster/remake yet.

When you add in the fact that you are also going to be getting a remastered odst, it becomes clear just how huge of a deal the mcc is, despite the glitches. They probably could have just remastered 1, 2, 3 and 4 and called it a day, and it would have still been a good deal. But they went the extra 100 miles and remade halo 2, implememted in game playlists swapping (this may not sound like a big thing, but do you realize most remasters like borderlands make you quit the ENTIRE game before being able to load even the ONE game, while halo not only lets you load between 4 different games without quiting, but each individual mission in them, all without quitting?) and are even giving us the best possible we're sorry/thank you gift a game dev could give these days, a full game, remastered even.

"Didn't seem to hard for Naughty Dog to remake The Last of Us..... just saying...."

It was actually. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk...

Although, your comparison is not really that valid. They had the job of patching together a group effort of old games and sorting out the netcode and bug fixing. I think at this point, the real question is how could a game this broken have a Metascore above 60? Any other game from any other franchise from any other company wouldn't have gotten away with that. Pretty disgraceful.

Chrisocolus - they should have been owning up to this before it came out. They should have had the decency to delay a fundamentally broken game until it was a product worthy of its legacy. Whilst it's good that they are saying it, it's bad that it's being said months afterwards. How can Microsoft's biggest game and legacy collection being an unstable stepping stone to a potentially solid game sequel be a good thing? It's unacceptable to dupe your consumers into buying a knowingly broken product.

@ Foehammer

Notice how I said "fundamentally broken", as in something that you simply cannot play because it's broken. Something that you deserve money back on, which is what one hardcore Halo fan I'm subscribed to on YouTube actually managed to do.

TLOU:R was never fundamentally broken like MCC was - it was fairly buggy. TLOU:R wasn't still broken 6 months later. I think it would be pretty hard to ignore that bit of knowledge, particularly around these parts of the web.

Foehammer3292d ago

@ Digitalraptor

Actually the comparison is valid as TLOUR had numerous issues:

Funny how you don't mention those or make any comments about ND releasing a broken product?

* Can't learn from a mistake until you own up to it.

They got the first step down. At least they acknowledge internally and outward that they screwed up big time.

* Halo 5 is going to be a good game.

How good ? We don't know yet.

If they can find a nice balance between Halo 2,3&Reach, they will have winner.

It's appalling that 343i still hasn't completely fixed Halo: The Master Chief Collection... six months after release.
Are 343i the new DICE (Battlefield 4 problems)? Hope not.

Its been playable for awhile...

secretcode3293d ago

Maybe they should turn the Black Eye skull off?

OpieWinston3293d ago

I've been saying this forever, MCC will just be an example to not do ambitious collections in the future for Microsoft and other publishers.

The game is a networking nightmare and hasn't been done before so it was bound to have problems but it just damages the image of Halo 5.

LexHazard793293d ago

I might be the minority here, but I dont feel like it damages Halo 5. MCC problems came from so many teams working on the collection and net code. If we could rewind time, I bet 343i does the entire collection themselves. Atleast we know that Halo 5 is being made by 343i and that Halo 5 will return to it full glory.

You tell em Im coming, and Hells coming with me..

Tankbusta403293d ago (Edited 3293d ago )

I have no faith in 343... The halo 5 beta had the same problems the MCC did... If you were trying to party up and join games with friends... I know it was only a beta but 343 seems to struggle in that aspect

Cutting Room Floor

343:

We have a special treat for you this month.

Something that becomes part of the great journey of many Halo fans is learning about all the stuff that didn’t make it into the games over the years.

When ambitious and talented developers are up against the challenges posed by limited time and resources, having to make tough decisions about what best serves the final product, many things end up in the horrifying tenth circle of Hell which Dante deemed too terrifying to tell us about: the cutting room floor.

I am so hyped for this bring halo 3,4, and 5 cut content too.

LordoftheCritics669d ago (Edited 669d ago )

2 years each dev time.

Add another 2 for co-op cut content.

Noskypeno669d ago

The stuff cut from halo 3 is like a game in itself. I would like to see the level that the map Guardian was based off of, make it next Gen only with the slipspace engine from 2018.

XiNatsuDragnel669d ago

That would be awesome Halo 3 cut edition would be fire

aaronaton669d ago

"When ambitious and talented developers are up against the challenges posed by limited time and resources"

Literally nothing in that sentence is anyway relatable to 343i.
