How Bloodborne Became the First Souls Game to Get Me Hooked

After failing to get my head around the first two Souls game, I thought that type of game was just not for me. So why did I end up with a Platinum trophy in Bloodborne? What does this game do differently to open up Souls to a whole new audience? Read on to find out.

Yeah, this is the first one that really grabbed me too.

Dark Souls really hooked me, but 10-15 in orso my HDD crashed and so I had to start over (didn't have a cloud-save, sadly), and I haven't REALLY gotten around to getting back into it, also because I now have a PS4, not to mention the already huge backlog of games I still have to play...

A shame, because I did really enjoy Dark Souls that first time I was playing it...

I haven't picked up Bloodborne yet, but I certainly will.

I found it hard to go back to the other games because the graphics haven't really aged well, and the theme is a little generic. They still play well though and now that I know wtf I'm doing I can have some fun with them. Maybe I'll pick up that DS2 HD.

It did what it was supposed to. Keep the fanbase and bring in new fans. Yeah, many souls vets complained about the lack of depth, but many have come around, especially as more has been uncovered.

I'm glad b/cc there's nothing like it out there.

"First 2 Souls games." There's been 3.

JyeJye1264d ago (Edited 1264d ago )

Yeah but the two that I tried were the first two out of the three. Therefore, I played only the first two souls games. Should I have said the two first souls games? Either way... The two that came first.

No no, it's my bad. I misunderstood thinking you were talking about both Dark Souls games, not Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1. Sorry about that. I've seen a lot of people that don't even know that Demon's Souls exists.

150 hours in and Im still not bored.

My first play through for BBorne was 74hrs. I'm on my second now and enjoying it so much more because I know all the secrets now. But I would really love to have that first time feeling again with this game. It's a gorgeous masterpiece.

JyeJye1264d ago

About the same time for me. Man I can't get enough! The amount of unique enemies and bosses in the game is pretty crazy, some of them only show up in later chalice dungeons, I can't believe how much work went into this game

Best game I've played since TLoU, and although the game is 'opaque' at times (it really is) I enjoyed trying to figure out the story and lore for myself.

My favorite ending is actually the one where you submit your life. All three endings are bitter sweet, though, with no real resolution, which is ok.

One turns you into a 'great one' (why the hell would I want to be a mindless monster) and the other has you take over as the watcher of the dream. How lonely.

Can't wait to see what From do next.

goldwyncq1264d ago

Great Ones aren't mindless monsters, they answer to mankind's prayers after all. I personally see it as you having the power to lead humanity to a better future, and that's what the trophy for that ending implies as well.

if youre talking about darks, then i agree. if youre talking about demons, i disagree. i will add though that they are all good and worth my money anyday.
