The hype is real. I need this game now. 343i make us proud.

BartMoons3274d ago

Return to Halo is itching for sure

Naga3274d ago (Edited 3274d ago )

If it's Nathan Fillion, I'm running naked down the street.

@naga
I'd turn into a live action grunt birthday party if that happens!

We have already lost our minds tbh

Erik73573274d ago

There's a lot of salt in those disagrees

aviator1893274d ago

Well, if it's something only hardcore fans would know, it can't really be anyone that we've seen in the games, right? I'm going to guess Mendicant Bias.

Kingdomcome2473274d ago

I believe so too. Such an awesome name. Mendicant Bias.

ChrisChambers3274d ago

Anyone that's read the books, are they any good? I never had much interest in them but after listening to the #huntthetruth recordings I feel like I should take in all the info I can before this game releases

Naga3274d ago (Edited 3274d ago )

The books are excellent. I haven't read all of the books out there, but the ones by Eric Nylund - "The Fall of Reach", "First Strike", and "Ghosts of Onyx" are quite good.

The Fall of Reach is the one where you learn how the Spartan program began, and you get to see John's abduction and transformation. It's also includes that fight between John and the 4 ODSTs mentioned on #huntthetruth. If you only have time to read one, that's the one to read.

ChrisChambers3274d ago

Well it looks like I got some reading to do. Thanks man

OC_MurphysLaw3273d ago

Fall of reach is definitely good. There also was a Halo Legends book that was a collection of short stories that was excellent. In fact they have a short story that deals with encountering the flood for the first time that was insanely good.

spicelicka3274d ago

I've finished reading Halo Cryptum and currently going through the audiobook for Primordium. These are crazy deep books and they'll tell so much about the Forerunners, the politics, Ancillas, previous humans, Didact, Librarians, Composer, Flood, even the humans that fought Forerunners before they were devolved. Everything that led up to the firing of the rings.

It's slow but very detailed and if you put some time in you'll be more than satisfied. I find it easier to just listen to the audiobook while commuting to work, it keeps be engaged and makes the drive much easier.

I think the least you should do is read the synopsis/summary of the books so you know what's going on.

ChrisChambers3274d ago

I'll probably check these out first then. I like to read all I can in order (beginning to present day) as opposed to mixing things randomly in the timeline.

I've got plenty of time to read them but I might look into this audiobook business..Might keep me from punching the steering wheel while I sit in the inevitable traffic jams to and from work

Frank O'Connor, Halo franchise director, has left Microsoft

O'Connor has been with the Halo franchise since it was with Bungie, and it appears that his time with the series--and Microsoft--is done.

Yet another nail in the Halo franchise coffin. Even Microsoft themselves moved on from the IP after replacing it with Starfield on console boxes.

Lifexline365d ago

This is actually a good thing halo fans have wanted Frank and Bonnie gone from 343 so hopefully things get better with them gone.

Godmars290364d ago

Weren't they brought in to fix what 343 has been doing?

SullysCigar364d ago

Nah, Frank was OG, from back in the days when Halo was good, before 343i came along. What the franchise needs is: 1. a substantial rest, 2. a reboot and 3. a decent pool of the original team that made the magic in the early days.

Only then will they have a chance at having anyone give a crap again. Frank leaving is not a good start on that journey.

InUrFoxHole363d ago

@God
Yeah Frank was but from my understanding that was it for him. Fix that sh!t show and move on

-Mika-364d ago

Microsoft has COD now. They no longer need Halo. 343 Is going through a complete reboot and getting rid of the old and bringing in the new. The Halo franchise is getting a complete reboot to appeal to a new generation of fans. I expect to see a new game by the end of the next gen Xbox.

Vengeance1138364d ago

Doesn't your end statement counter your first? You expect to see a new Halo game by the end of the next gen Xbox that as you say MS doesn't need? I wouldn't expect to ever see another Halo game again if its not needed.

-Mika-364d ago

What I meant to say is that there is no longer any urgency. MS used to release a Halo mainline or spinoff every year or two. They used to make sure there was Halo at the start of every console launch. I no longer see them doing that. Now, they are not going to abandon it because the series still has a lot of value. I expect a new Mainline title by the mid or end of the next Xbox.

derek364d ago

@Mika, Why not both? Managing you most important ip thus far would only be bolstered by add cod to your portfolio.

Lightning77364d ago

Because Halo isn't carrying Xbox to a new gen like they always have in the past like you said. That, Forza and Gears games. The Forza Creative Director left to make a new studio The Coalition took a hiatus to learn Unreal Engine 5 and will return to Gears at some point (rumor is they did return to Gears but still years away from release)

MS Trifecta is getting old and tired I mean that from a studio point of view of the only studios carrying the Xbox every gen. Once MS employed new studios to help develop games for the console, old studio heads and leads are all going there sesperate ways.

It's what happens when you have the same 4 or 5 studios for years on end. Burn out.

BehindTheRows364d ago

CoD is remaining multiplatform. Besides, you don’t abandon a high profile property just because of an impending acquisition. That’s…. not how business works. At all.

Halo just needs a new shot in the arm to get it going again.

Its actually a nail removed from Halo's Coffin.
If you know who this person is you would agree that he should have left the studio after Halo 5

XiNatsuDragnel365d ago

Good luck with your future endeavors

IamTylerDurden1364d ago

Fallout of a failed game. Your TGA player's choice goty 87 meta lol. Idgaf. Dreams was great yet it failed and the director left. That's what happens. Halo was average from the jump yet showered with praise. Now many hate the game. Funny.

porkChop364d ago

The gameplay, mechanics, and feel of Halo Infinite are top notch. That's why everyone praised it initially. It was with the expectation that 343 would keep a steady stream of content and updates coming to keep the game alive, which 343 failed miserably at.

This is a good thing for Halo

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub397d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91397d ago

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris397d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

Obscure_Observer397d ago

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.

I mean, the deal is alright… Unfortunately for me the Serious S doesn’t have a disk drive and unfortunately for Gamestop a lot of those games are on or have been on Gamepass/PSNow.

Sgt_Slaughter639d ago

Given the nature of backwards compatibility on new systems, this is a great sale in case you missed out on some gems from last gen.

Mandingo2020639d ago

Most of the games on Xbox are on game pass. The Switch games in this sale are trash c'mon farming simulator that's laughable. The PS4 games should be cheaper. I can't wait for the GameStop going out of business liquidation sale.

neutralgamer1992638d ago

Seriously man I don't get the hate on GS and I guess you want even less options and give more control to the publishers

And you want thousands of people to lose their jobs because you don't like a company. One thing I have noticed is how most who hate on GS haven't shopped at the actual stores in years. Many who hate on GS have also done so listening to others negative stories or experiences. People on YT want clicks and hating on GS is the cool thing

SurgicalMenace638d ago

It's not people's hate that would lose people's jobs, it's the shady business practices of the company. So what you're saying is that because people work there individuals should just support what they don't want to? Sound advice; Hitler too had supporters, employees, and advocates but people go around hating him too. They only hate because of other people's bad stories or experiences; they only spoke bad about him because they wanted attention. It's been decades; lets give his way another go. With your logic anything could be made to sound good.🤷🏾‍♂️

neutralgamer1992638d ago

SurgicalMenace

Seriously you used Hitler as an example to say company has shady practices

You don't have to shop at GS there are many other retailers. I shop there and vast majority of my experiences have been positive and most of the employees are super nice

SurgicalMenace638d ago

Just having some fun, bro.🤣🤣

Mandingo2020637d ago

There are other places to work besides GS. Plus, their benefits are trash so why not work somewhere else?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 637d ago
REDGUM638d ago

And none of those game you speak of you actually own as they are digital not physical & would cost more than $20 as the subscription costs more than that.

Mandingo2020637d ago (Edited 637d ago )

You know you can get game pass ultimate codes for the low on cdkeys or g2a right? You don't need to have a subscription 😂. GS is trash and I'd rather support the mom and pop game store here instead.

BlackTar187638d ago

Why are you people so full of hate? GameStop gives people jobs and provides a physical appearance to see things in the flesh and not just some soulless online experience.

Mandingo2020637d ago

You can get physical at mom and pop game stores plus you can get it online. GS is trash

neutralgamer1992637d ago

Because Mom and Pop shops cost two to three times more for the same product Angie the answer

BlackTar187637d ago (Edited 637d ago )

Mom and pop stores cost more and have even harder time competing against the internet. Also lie to me and tell you have a couple mom and pop stores near you selling games then lie and tell me you shop there.

IanTH638d ago

These sales, while potentially great, really struggle to be valuable given you can't easily parse what games are in stock. You can't just say "only show what is online & what are in my nearby stores". Probably 60-75% of these games in these massive lists are out of stock for shipping, and out of stock locally. It makes it a chore to find anything you'd want, much less 4 of them, much less enough if you wanted to get to a free shipping tier. It's a bummer.
