This game is absolutely massive in scale.
I just saw AngryJoe playing it and the game looked absolutely huge! Its gonna be amazing to traverse those locations and explore the secrets of this beauty.
gopher's vid is way better than joe's https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Meh, 1.5x GTA and only .5 of ARMA 3. Doesn't seem that massive to me but that isn't gonna stop it from being awesome.
xbox one footage?
@XBLSKull 1.5x of GTAV is huge. Just think, GTAV's map may not feel that large because you are traveling at speeds of 80+ in vehicles while traveling. If you walked it or took a moped, it's huge! On horseback or foot, The Witcher 3 will be gihugic! We both do agree though, it's going to be awesome! :)
Thanks for the tip, I've never seen any of Gopher's videos and this one was very good. I really love how the wind affects the trees, bushes and grass, makes the game world look very convincing. Anyone who wants to see more Witcher 3 check out the Gamespot videos with Danny O'Dwyer, they are excellent, here is part 1 of 3 https://www.youtube.com/wat...
GTA V map can be traversed north to south in 10 mins... ...by a 400mph jet...lol This is huge and i think that xbskull needs to quit. I have to say that when you drop your self off in the middle of a desert ot woods after a jump in GTA, you realize that the world is huge when it takes 30 mins to run to the nearest highway.
@NukaCola i disagree with xbskull and think he's a troll but 30 minutes??? 10 minutes with jet?? Just checked, and it takes barely 3 minutes from south to north with a jet. ANd there is no space on the map you need 30 minutes to a highway by foot, even 10 minutes would be a stretch.
I was on the fence, but the more I see, the more impressive & gorgeous this game looks, very detailed (walking thru those villages, its like I wanna look out for cow poo ;P) I wonder how the guys @NeoGaf came by 136 sq km? Plus I thought I heard GTA V was 100 sq miles, significantly bigger than 81 sq km (unless they mean just the city of Los Santos)
The Witcher 3 map size = GTA V + Skyrim + RDR combined!!!! OMG! o.0
That just seems unreal. I'll be collecting retirement by the time I've seen everything this world has to offer.
I dont think you interpreted the article properly. Its 1.5x bigger than gta 3.3 times bigger than RDR and 3.5 times bigger than skyrim. It isnt as big as all three put together. But it is still a humungous map to explore nonetheless, it'll feel way bigger than gta v only because you have a horse and you run you arent going 250mph in a car.
@xTheMercenary You should check out the original NeoGaf link in the article. It is ONLY the main map area that is 136KMsq. There are 4-6 other areas as well. If each of those areas is small at even 30kmsq then you have 136+(30x4)=256kmsq. So yeah, as was said, bigger than GTA V + Skyrim + RDR combined = HUuuuGE!
game looks fantastic; cant wait to take part of this badboy.
As the choir boy said to the priest, that's huge!
until.. you get bored from horse traveling...
Every time I see your avatar pic this week it makes me sad
Believe me mate, i am sadder. i have been a Silent Hill fan since 1999 :( Such a damn shame.
Holy F'in christ.
Jesus...this game is massive.
The Witcher 3's just epic as epic does.
Wow, it's going to be exciting traversing through this world. Can't wait to play it.
Holy Cow! Im more impressed that GTA V is twice the size of Skyrim... O.O The Witcher 3 is MASSIVE!
A newcomer to the series and I can't wait! I hope the music will be fantastic as well and reminiscent to Game of Thrones.
So basically is The Witcher 3 the biggest open world RPG? (Is it bigger than Morrowind? Just Casue 2?) In any case it'll be the biggest open world RPG that I've ever played. I can't wait.
What size is XCX ?
XCX? What is that?
Lol nothing , it is an RPG of 400 KM ^2 .
Daggerfall still has it beat at 161,600 square kilometers.
I wish Dragon Age's were that big. Instead of exploring areas, you could explore the whole map.
Bioware is put to shame with that game.
Actually, it seems that quite a few mechanics in Witcher 3 are directly lifted from Dragon Age (radial menu, horse riding/summoning, etc.)
yeah but most of it is water which equals out to be the same as skyrim or even less
I love that you can jummp, and the horse will follow the road by its self while holding A.
This is what Konrad Tomaszkiewicz the Director of the game told me when i wrote to him on Facebook: it is like 10x Skyrim size, two big open maps. One No Mans Land + Novigrad City and second SKellige Islands around 10 of them. belive me or not, i was surprised when he answered me back. but sometimes if you are stubbon enough it pays of:)
Is big but is half the size of Arma 3 map.
Yeah that might be the case, but I know which game I'd rather spend 200hrs exploring.
In Witcher you have caves etc. to explore, in arma? Nothing. Besides this article forgot about the main map: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Eh, had to click link to see the comparison, I feel dirty now...
Everyone read my post again please, its not 3,5 times Skyrim, its 10 Times the size of Skyrim:)
It's already at 136km2 and with 4-6 more regions that haven't been counted to that total yet? This map size is going to be mental!
I just watched a map size gameplay it was huge BUT.... when they zoomed map further it looked to be only 1 of several regions? really huge
omg this is truly epic!
They just need to make sure the game is actually fun and lively. A big world is meaningless if it just feels dead and devoid of life.
Yup, size means nothing now a days. A living, breathing world that is fully dynamic instead of a MMO style theme park is what truely matters.
With no Nvidia phys X on the consoles it's an uphill battle.
You are basically saying that becasue there are no Nvidia hair physics on consoles the game will not be "fun and lively"? You don't seem to know or understand what consitutes a "fun and lively" game.
The great thing is they seem to have done that as well. Au contraire to Dragon Age Inquisition.
Im still interested to see how the loading screens between certain regions come into play as has been stated.
I like Witcher games, but simply having a bigger world is not innovation. I wanna see new concepts, interesting characters and stories. I also hope they improved combat, it was the weakest link in Witcher 2 in my opinion.
Agreed, but I'm still walking all over that map :)
Aww man, that would be awesome. I wonder how many ingame days it would take to walk the entire game map. I make it a point in open world game to walk more than run. The default movement speed seems to always be on run, but I prefer to walk and take in the sights - plus it's more realistic - nobody just runs everywhere they go.
its a big map. congrats to the developers. but does that mean i have to walk all the way through that map? gta games seems big with a car. i think we need to stop talking about map sizes at this moment in time. lets play the game and see if we really needed anything this big? is it going to be full of content where i will be interested in taking part of?
In games like these if the world is good offering up plenty of exploration and has good stories with good characters im ok with the combat being the weakest link as long as the combat is not broken or is so horrible that it makes the game unplayable or unenjoyable. Take for instance the two worlds games and arcania. Those games didn't have great combat but the meat of the game kept me going. Even skyrim and oblivions combat was just okay if not pretty good but the worlds with all the exploration and not knowing what kind of quest you were gonna find next or what cool piece of loot and the good books all drive me to spend a couple hundred hours with those games. Thats what it's all about for me.
which map bigger Xenoblade or Witcher 3
