The Huge Problem With Gaming Today

Last year saw the trend continue on a magnitude of games that were released by top tier publishers and developers. While the gaming world should have been rejoicing at the wealth of content, the exact opposite arose instead. I thought long and hard about whether or not I should be direct and name games, companies, and more or play it safe with “generic” or “general” descriptions.

This problem falls on both sides of the coin. With both the consumers and the corporations. Developers/Publishers are getting lazy and putting out cheap product intended to sell. And for every one person dedicated to this hobby complains, there are several more that treat these games like content to consume. Rather than a product that is meant to have quality.

Since Atari, game companies have been lazy/profit driven. Only thing that's changed is complexity, which they aren't keeping up with.

Most people would agree that Destiny wasn't quite the game they were expecting (less story - more grinding) but it certainly wasn't broken as it had millions of players and worked straight out of the gate. I wouldn't compare it to the debacle that was Assassin's Creed: Unity.

The biggest problem with gaming today is the "journalism" that covers it(not that this article is an example).
