On Tuesday afternoon, 1UP took part in a roundtable interview with Yoshinori Kitase, producer in charge of Final Fantasy XIII, and Shinji Hashimoto, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Square Enix. While other journalists from two other outlets were present during the interview, the question and answers presented here were specifically asked by 1UP. So, if you see these questions repurposed elsewhere, you know where they came from.
Interview excerpt:
1UP: Because of the difference in the storage media -- Blu-ray versus DVD -- will there be any compromises made to the Xbox 360 version in terms of the FMV quality or audio quality? Will you need to use different compression techniques?
YK: At this point, nothing's really been decided; that will be a process that takes place in the future, but for the difference between the hardware, we'll work on trying to find ways to compress the prerendered movies and voice that take up a lot of data in ways that don't affect the final product. As for the in-game visuals, we're going to look for ways to ensure that the quality remains the same between the two versions.
Kazuyuki Shindo, who worked on games including Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy XIII, and SaGa: Emerald Beyond, has left Square Enix.
While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.
Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."
FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.
I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.
I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.
i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.
i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.
but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.
but i like 13-2 more :)
i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy
XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!
I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.
Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5
"we're going to look for ways to ensure that the quality remains the same between the two versions."
In order words downgrade the PS3 version for the sake of a 360 port.
Square-Enix = The next Capcom
The ps3 version is going to suffer because they want to make both versions look the same is what your saying mr. Yoshinori
I'm going straight to the point about the FF13 multiplatform case:
It ruined the SONY relationship
It disappointed many fans
SONY depended on them to make a great game, to help improve the sales and reptutation of the PS3
Exclusives that tend to go Multi looses interests
Ruined the Playstation exclusive trademark
Becoming like Capcom(no need for further explanation)
Gave one less reason to own a PS3, which it was the PS2 and PS1 that gave Square Enix where they are now.
Showed they cared more about money than loyalty
Slowing down the FF13 Verses development
May question themselves about the storage space and specs they are using when developing FF13
They are looking to seem to betraying another company(like when they ditched Nintendo)
Gave something the Xbox fanboys to cheer and make fun of to the Sony fanboys
Making themselves look foolish when they made statements like, "We are arent looking forward for Final Fantasy games on different platforms". " The PS3 suits Final Fantasy 13".
Made another foolish statement saying it was to reduce the fanboyism, and yet, Last Remnant is a 360 timed exclusive, Infinite Discovery and Star Ocean are 360 exclusives.
And other foolish statement when they said FF13 multi was because of the install base, but then why is FF13 verses a PS3 exclusive? hmmmmm
This game is going to get gimped,
SE the next CAPCOM CONFIRMED
They are toning down the PS3 version because the lackluster 360 can't keep up with the cell processor.
