Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Developers Afraid That Gamers May Misinterpert Some Features

Warhorse Studios’ Daniel Vavra revealed some of the concerns surrounding the development of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. As Daniel said, the team is currently receiving lots of messages from happy fans, asking them to take their time and polish the game before releasing, however the team is afraid that some gamers may misinterpret some of the game’s features that have been already announced.

Hmmm... sounds like backtracking to me. From the last devblog that they did, and from what they showed I highly doubt that this game will be ready for Summer 2016.

The Witcher 3 is preparing to set a new benchmark interms of open world RPGs, and already gamers are comparing it to the likes of Skyrim, and saying how it surpasses Skyrim in alot of ways. Kingdom Come:Deliverance on the other hand, while being more gounded in reality, still seems to have a long way to go to get to Syrim standards, let alone The Witcher 3 standards.

I think the devs should do what CDPR did and push this game back to either holiday 2016 or Spring 2017, and polish it to a high standard so that they can fully achieve the features they talk about - Epic battles, castle seiges etc etc.

Instead it sounds like they have not reached their deadlines and are backtracking on features and trying to reduce gamer expectations. Not a good sign IMHO, better to just delay the game till it's right.

DarkOcelet3696d ago

Would you rather them hyping it and lying like Bungie did with Destiny or would you rather them telling the truth? I appreciate that they are being honest and telling us not to hype it to the skies and keep our expectations moderate.

ArchangelMike3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

I would actually rather that they took their time to fully develop and realise those game design features that will set this game apart from other RPGs of it's kind. Deep complex story, player choice, Epic Castle Sieges, massive hundred-NPC battles, etc etc.

Developing a game to a high standard of quality is not the same as over-hyping a game. Similarly, cutting back on core game design features to meet development deadlines, is not the same as 'keeping expectations moderate.'

rdgneoz33696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Yah, seems like they're trying to cut back a little back in order to make their deadlines.

"The story that we tell may very well contain only two or three such epic battles"

Yah, I can see how people can misinterpret what has been said before...

http://www.onlysp.com/kingd... :
"Battles, which aren’t currently in the available alpha build, will take place on a massive scale, consisting of hundreds of NPCs. Rydl explained, however, that these battles are more like background events, taking place around you"

"Castle sieges will also play their part in setting the scene, and you are naturally able to take part. They are not designed to be easy to survive, though. Catapults, boiling oil, moats, archers – all will rain down destruction."

Yah... I can see two or three castle sieges, but hopefully they're not including the battles with hundreds of NPCs in that list of epic battles.

Don't be so quick to compare Witcher and Skyrim with out having played the former. Because the developer is aiming to achieve that type of experience, doesn't mean they have succeeded. Even worst, is that you are stating that they surpassed Skyrim. You may can see that to be true for graphics and maybe fighting mechanics if you prefer the more action oriented 3rd person view. But skyrim has many options that aren't addressed in Whitcher3. So there is still plenty that could make many RPG fans still favor Skyrim over Witcher, just like many Skyrim players wouldn't go near a game like Bloodborne, even with its high scoring reviews.

hells_supernova3696d ago

My favourite part of Skyrim was how the game stopped working after 70 hours thanks Bethesda!

rdgneoz33696d ago

@hells_supernova Mine was not being able to continue a save when the game had the water glitch going on (game freezing when you go in water)... Or the insane bookcase lag...

joab7773696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

I havnt played TW3 either yet, and I will almost guarantee that it's better in almost every way, especially w great PC support.

Story...WAYYYYY better. Not even comparable. A legitimate leveling system that doesn't allow you to break the game, check. Difficult scaled combat, check. Real monster hunting, check. Dynamic questing, check. And the even the one thing Skyrim has over milost games, the beautiful expansive world. Let's see once modders have a yr or two with it.

Oh, and actual choice that affect ts your world...check.

Wait, I'm sorry, you cant choose your character...damn!

ArchangelMike3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

@BigPappy
'I'- am not saying Witcher 3 has surpassed Skyrim. The 'internets' is saying The Witcher 3 'will' surpass Skyrim.

But you are right, that is not to say it will actually be a better game overall - it might Look better, but until we actually play the game, no one can categorcally say it will be better.

Personally, I think it will be a better overall experience than Skyrim, but that is because for me, I prefer story-based character RPGs over create-your-own character RPGs. But that's just my own personal prefernce.

In terms of Kingdom Come:Deliverance though, it's currently not looking upto par with either Skyrim or The Witcher 3.

elninels3694d ago

I have complete faith in CD projekt red. I firmly believe that the witcher 3 will greatly surpass skyrim. i believe that ever since Morrowind released bethesda have focused on making tons of content.

They succeeded, and skyrim was great as a result. Combat hasn't really evolved since then though. The witcher's combat in games past relied more on player agency rather than character attributes.

in the elder scrolls series the story also lacks the grit of the witcher series. I prefer relatively provocative themes, not everyone, so I understand if some people prefer the elder scrolls mysticism. I also recognize that the elder scrolls has some great political intrigue. I will also give credit to bethesda for creating a ton of lore. Like so much lore. Like a totally crazy amount of lore. Like so so so much lore. I would love to know how many man hours were spent making all of it.

TL; Dr: Rant rant blah blah. I believe skyrim is a great game, and I believe the witcher 3 will surpass it in many ways.

Budgets might not allow for delaying the game. In reality if you are not backed and are an Ondine dev and your money runs out you are stuffed.

Also the witcher 3 sounds like it surpasses every game ever released in terms of how alive the world is

ArchangelMike3696d ago

You're right on both counts. Budgets are a major limiting factor for independent developers, so inevitably what the developer can ultimately acomplish will be affected by how much money they have.

On the second count - Yes, I agree that the Wither 3 is currently the best looking, dense and alive open world RPG.

Bigpappy3696d ago

Thank you for your courteous reply.

I understand where all the enthusiasm is coming from. I played the witcher2 and enjoyed the combat and flow of the story, but had wish that the game didn't fore me to move on just so the story wouldn't be interrupted. I like to fully explore and discover hidden loot and areas in my RPG's. I also like to choose as mush as possible for the character I am going to be playing, but it is by no means a deal breaker.

My cautionary comments were mostly based on the fact that this is CDPR's first huge opened world game. There is a lot that needs to be in a single player opened world game to hold gamers interest for over 60 hours. I hope they knock it out the park with their first try, but as great a development team as their have proven to be, what they are setting out to do here has a very steep learning curve, and presents many opportunities for something major to go wrong.

I look for to playing this game and do hope that it makes them the new kings of the open world RPG genre. I just can't give them that kind of pedigree until I have played the game.

elninels3695d ago

More time spent making a game means more money spent on paying people. If this was kickstarted (was it, I think it was but I honestly don't remember.), then they might not have enough. If it's got a publisher than they may be reluctant to spend more money, specifically if they don't believe it will directly coincide with more sales.

I belie've it will be a fun game.

ArchangelMike3695d ago

The game was on kickstarted, they did well am met and ectually exceeded their targets and kickstarter goals. Then they stopped setting new goal, I don't think they are on kickstarted anymore, so they might have got a publisher now. I'm not sure though.

The combat mechanics seem solid enough at the moment, but whether or not it will all pull together to make a fun game is yet to be proved.

That's a terrible decision. Just adding a higher frame rate options or next gen latch would generate a ton of interest from new players.

Still have Forspoken and KC:Deliverance on my huge backlog list. Don’t know when I’m going to get around to them though.

7 and 4 are the only 2 I played on this list and even regardless of their negative press. I had a blast with both games, and I have no regrets with them.

TheColbertinator97d ago

Alpha Protocol. Obsidian needed more time with that one I think.

RaidenBlack97d ago

Yep, Alpha Protocol is pretty unique. A spy-thriller-RPG. A pretty rare theme.
But the development wasn't smooth, and needed more time.
One of the few 7th gen titles that I support for a proper Remake, so that the gaming world gets something unique.

Inverno97d ago

Hilarious to me how Kingdom Come 2 has scored well so far when the first was attacked by the same sites that apparently enjoyed the second. Glad they could make a sequel cause so many games have been the target of journo slander and been denied the chance.

chicken_in_the_corn97d ago

I thought Darksiders 3 and Vampyr were great.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Reportedly Banned in Saudi Arabia for “Unskippable Gay Scenes”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is set to be released at the start of February in most areas of the world but it may have already received a ban in Saudi Arabia. Hints about the ban came a few days prior, but multiple news outlets are now reporting that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has officially been banned in the country.

We need to appreciate the strict rules of Islam, but we also need to appreciate the amazing freedoms we enjoy. Lets be thankful and appreciative of our friends.

Too much freedom is also bad. People think they can do whatever they want without consequences.
Too much freedom = lawlessness.

No thanks. The more freedom, the better.

What Freedom? Even a Twitter/X comment could get you arrested in Europe, especially the UK, and America.

@Behunted

"Even a Twitter/X comment could get you arrested in Europe, especially the UK, and America."

I mean terroristic threats are crimes and yes you can get arrested for making them. Yes, there are limits to free speech. But outside of posing a risk to other people you are free to say whatever you want. Its a rationale approach for sure. Free speech doesn't mean absolute freedom. You are not free to bring harm to other people usign your words.
