GameStop is offering up a nice chunk of trade-in credit towards a new Xbox One in exchange for either a Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

This is why I never sell my consoles. I made the mistake of /trying/ to sell my GameBoy Color way back in the day, but luckily I peeled off the stickers, so EB Games couldn't take it.

BEST "mistake" I ever made. I did still sell my old games, which I regret, but I definitely learned the "don't sell your consoles" lesson.

I kept my 360, but haven't touched it since November 22nd 2013.

Not even my collection of guitar hero instruments and full catalogue can tempt me. I would put it on TradeMe (nz's ebay), can't be bothered to take it out of the cupboard to take a photo, haha.

As the owner of multiple consoles over the years, my xbox 360 (one of the many 360's I've owned due to red ring) is the only console I've ever considered trading in strictly because of fear the product would fail on me before I could trade the thing in.....that doesn't say much for Microsoft's product quality, or me for that matter. I bought two 360's, most that red ringed were replaced under warranty, until that ran out and I did the home made fixes myself, til it just up and quit and I was "forced" to purchase a slim, which is thankfully still breathing. But I wonder every day, "for how long" will this 360 last? I never had a question like that for any of my other Sony or Nintendo consoles. Never.

I made the mistake too of selling my old GBA but not consoles. Only games I sold are ones I really didn't like and knew I'd never touch them again or ever have any desire to "someday play again".

Why don't you troll harder. You wont trade it in because you fear it will fail on you? What kind of argument is that? Did someone hold a gun to your head and "force" you to buy the slim? Also the slim has heat shutdown protection and cant RRoD. I doubt you ever even owned a 360, troll harder.

People still complaining about red ring? Lol they fixed it for free...... And newer models dont red ring.... If you are so concerned and can't sleep at night maybe you should of got an s-model? The red ring issue was almost 8 yrs ago. These people crying over rrod won't dare mention the fear of bricking a Sony console after an update tho.

Author here: I personally prefer to keep my old consoles because I always want to play my old games, but if you're the type of person who doesn't care about that, then this plus trading in your old games could lead to a pretty cheap Xbox One. I wouldn't be on this deal, but that's just me.

I have had the worst luck w 360s. My 13th (including refurbished ones that Microsoft sends back) broke last night. I just got it back a week ago from Microsoft. I didn't even get my first one til 3 years after they launched and rrod was resolved.

Im still on my 2nd. 1st one got the red rings just months before the warranty ended, lucky me, but then the tray broke several years later. Managed to rig the tray so I could trade it in at Gamestop and save myself some money on a new one.

That's what I did too. I've had virtually all consoles since Atari as a little guy. I had a 360 with a bunch of games and bought all the extra controllers and recharge packs and the thing died on me after 6 months. Except when that happened Ms was still denying there was any issues with their console (which has led to lawsuits and over a billion $ in payments back to gamers) so I eBay'd all of it and got a PS3. Still have my original fat PS3 with all the extra ports and whatnot. Still works too, but it is a bit loud now. It's been relegated to bluray and internet/streaming duty.

I'm on my second in 8 years. First one died with a videocard error, not the red ring. My brother had two that still work. If you had 13 of them, chances are the location or user error are to blame.

It is not user error. I'm in my 30's and am careful with them. They just sit there in my game room and magically break. I don't even use them much. I play all 3rd party games on PS3. They pretty much were only for Gears of War. And two of the consoles were bricked because Microsoft tested faulty background update on a small percentage of consoles. I had two 360s that I had just gotten fixed and the update wiped them both out. Support initially said they would replace them but then didn't.

Not necessarily user error. I believe in the whole rrod debacle there was a supposed failure rate of 50%+? I'm not googling old links to show, you guys can look it up. So, it was seemingly the case where for every one console that functioned there was another that did not. It was quite a big deal that prob would have taken any console maker out of the game if not for MS having very deep pockets.

Yeah I've got an old white 60gb that's been going strong for many years. Gave it to my daughter couple of years ago and she uses it every day. Guess we got a couple of the 30% of ones that were actually good, lol.

They had something similar last week where if you brought in your PS3 with 120GB or more storage, they will give you $175 credit towards a PS4. Sure enough, the PS4 was like under $225. I used the difference towards Bloodborne and Dying Light. Best decision ever. I had a Wii U and Xbox One already, so this rounded out the consoles for this gen. I'd suggest anyone who hasn't gotten any of the new consoles to take in the trade in deal!

My son will probably buy the Xbox1 before I buy mine, so I'll definitely clue him in on the deal. Personally I'm almost at that point of giving in to the urge to finally buy one. Truthfully no one can say that the console hasn't come a long way, which is a testament to me considering even buying one! A year ago I was at a totally different place.

The Xbox One has definitely come a long way, and I've definitely been enjoying it. Some may not agree, but to each their own. Owning all 3 consoles I can definitely say each has its own strengths and great library of games / exclusives.
