Who has the best E3 showing this year

Now that The Big Three have all finished up their press conferences (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo), Joystiq wants to know who you thought had the best showing.

Final Fantasy is huge in Japan. The last FF game sold 5 million copies, half of that being in Japan. It only sold 1.5 million in NA, and less than 1,000,000 in Europe.

So give Microsoft about 300,000 sales of FF in America in two years, and a hardware boost of maybe 9%?

Seriously, its a big deal because Sony let it go, not a big deal in terms of impact outside of Japan, where its a Sony exlusive.

The Recording gameplay and uploading to youtube is great. None of the Showings were the best ever seen from the respective company's though.

MS did have the most memorable moment at E3 the FF13 Bomb was distinct. Yet aside from that the MS showing was luke warm.

256 players on the battlefield at once vs FF13 comes to 360 too. Both had serious shock value. Yet MAG is more substantial then we get FF13 too IMO.

Honestly Pizzas, after reading all those facts that you listed in you're post, I am really starting to think that this entire "blow" to Sony and the PS3 could actually end up working towards Sony and the PS3's advantage.

How you say? Think about it this way. PS3 is clearly the lead platform for FFXIII. The xbox 360 version is going to be ported after development on the PS3 version is complete. SquareEnix looks to still take advantage of the Blu-Ray format with the PS3 version and the game should end up being about 35+ gigabytes big, at least.

When the xbox 360 version is being made, if SquareEnix does not develop the game with AT LEAST 4 discs in mind, then they will certainly have to cut a few corners for the xbox 360 version. In the end, this may work towards the PS3's advantage because if the 360 version is determined to be somewhat gipped and reduced in comparison to the PS3 version, this will send a clear message to casual and hardcore gamers, as well as publishers and developers alike, that the PS3 CLEARLY has a technological advantage over the xbox 360 that cannot be denied, the major being the Blu-Ray format.

From this possible outcome, you can see how the decision to port FFXIII to the xbox 360 could actually end up working in Sony and the PS3's favor.

I heard it from the CEO of Square Enix himself.
The Japanese version will be completed first and then development on the 360 will begin while localization for NA and EU PS3 versions begins. So you're telling it's going to take the same amount of time to translate a game from Japanese to English and to complete an RPG on the 360. You must be smoking something. Unless Square Enix delays the PS3 version purposefully, the PS3 version should be done before the 360 version. The Ps3 has being in development for 3 years and will be finished (except for localization) next year. 360 development won't start till next year.

FFXIII was developed on a game engine that is cross platform. It is used for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. There is even a version running on the Wii. There are no "ports" since it is a cross platform engine. Japan will finish first since that is the games native language. While localization (translated to English) is being finished for the PS3 and PS3 Western versions, the final prep will be done for the 360 version. Square can do this since the localization team will be different than the programers that finalize the 360 version. This makes sense since the Japanses version will be completed before localization for other regions.

If they did it your way, it would take many more months before either PS3 or Xbox 360 versions hit the West.

Not to pick, but your idea of multiple discs is also unfounded. We don't have the details yet, but so far the differance between Blu-Ray and DVD 9 are a wash. If you look at Metal Gear and the 3-5 minute load times between levels you will see it probably takes longer with Blu-Ray than DVD9. I can only guess Blu-Ray is still too new for devs to trully take advantage of them. Not to mention required installs on cross platform games for Blu-Ray also seem odd at best when their DVD counterpart doesn't need it.

Last but not least, according to some the news of Microsoft "stealing" FFXIII from Sony is the highlight of Microsoft's conferance. This is being viewed as pathetic since they couldn't do something of their "own", yet Sony couldn't top that? Huh.

Yes, they took one of the PS3's biggest exclusives, but they failed to announce anything ground breaking in terms of games. Sony tried to deliver for the gamer. I would hardly say that Final Fantasy going multi platform "stole the show". It seems to me that Sony had more to showcase including MAG by ZIPPER INTERACTIVE and not to meantion the new PSN games. MS signed a deal with NETFLIX while Sony signed a deal with ALL OF THE BIG MOVIE STUDIOS.

Then you have the 80 gig core system anouncement for $399.

Then you have the official anouncement of God of War 3 for the PS3 and Resistance for the PSP.

The way I see it is that the Sony showed a lot of games that I would like to play, plus they used LBP innovatively to do the boring stuff like charts.

MS was very good from the beginning, but I only liked Gears and Fallout 3 from the conference. The avatar and dashboard stuff IMO is pointless and copying Mii's and slightly copying the XMBs style. 2nd half of the conference was very boring completely casual. FFXIII was a megaton announcement though.

As for Nintendo, everything they announced was a pile of crap, apart from GTA which had neither a release date or trailer and it's only going to the DS.

First off, show me proof that the PS3 version is the "lead" platform and will be better. While your at it, tell me how much space on a Blu-Ray title is redundant data used to speed up oad times and if you could explain to us why Blu-Ray games require an install if the format is so much better. Compress the data, cut out redundant files and install a disc onto the HDD and suddenly DVD9 can hit 18+ gigs between the install and uncompressed files on the HDD and the "play" disc. How many Blu-Ray titles can say this honestly? If it worries you so much, you will be able to install complete games onto the HDD with the fall update. There are other options besides Blu-Ray which is still in it's infancy.

Who had the best conferance? If you judge by the hottest topics that are hitting online communities all across the web, Microsofts is the most talked about. I seen the Sony conferance and like many E3's before it I seen a few familar games that still haven't come out and more promises that haven't been fullfilled. I honestly don't care what Sony will bring us in a year or two. I want to know what is happening reasonably soon. That is the big differance between Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft uses E3 to showcase the near future where Sony makes bold promises without any dates.

They presented videos of several proven games, the videos looked great. They showed a new dashboard avatar system that will let you among other things participate in live contests and win actual prizes. They announced a new netflix deal that will allow people to stream movies and tv to their tvs via the 360. They announced that one of playstation's greatest games will now also come to the 360, this announcement caused the internet to explode with blog and forum commenting frenzy, the N4G news of that announcement recieved the most comments ever in N4G history.

If we're talking presentation skills then it goes to Sony. LBP's business presentation was the highlight. But after that it was mostly PR talk from Tretton with lots of sizzle trailers and CG trailers for long off games. Sure there were the cool announcements like the video marketplace and some new titles, but it was mostly what Sony's good at. Promises.

If we're talking about the actual conference meat, Microsoft whilst not to every hardcore gamers taste, brought a mass of changes to their online experience and revealed a whole range of new casual titles... with gameplay!. Better yet most of the titles announced were given release dates and the changes of live were not "promised" but demonstrated in detail and then given a definitive fall release.

I can understand why Sony's conference may have pleased the hardcore because it was all about software and was a light & sound extravaganza. But there was little behind it except for more promises. Case in point Jack Tretton saying about Home "Your patience [for Home] will be more than rewarded."

I can understand why Micosoft's conference may have sucked for the hardcore because there was little mention of hardcore titles outside of the first 20mins or the FF shocker. But in terms of an industry show, which is what E3 is, it was a mile ahead of its competitors with a presentation that effectively launched a new console for the family and casual markets and then confirmed the release dates along with hands on gameplay.

so I think one thing most N4G faithful can agree on is it sure as hell wasn't Nintendo that won the show. WTF happened to Nintendo? I mean I know they make a boat load of money and this is a business but how can they snub gamers like that?

I know I might take a hit for this but I don't even consider them in the video gaming market any more with their console. It's just something you own as a secondary or possibly even third console to play when games are slow on the other console(s), but now that both MS and Sony will have their versions of greatest hits I doubt I will pick a Wii up at all. From what I understand, Sony's new SKU is going to be the only SKU in N/A (and possibly everywhere else too). So, there will be only one 80GB console. Unfortunately, imo, it won't be BC and it'll only have 2 USB ports. Basically, it's the current 40GB console with an 80GB hard drive.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's accurate.

Sony and Microsoft were definitely ahead of Nintendo...and Sony takes the top honors...Jack Tretton did an excellent job and really seemed confident and in a good mood...shout out to Jack T...lol...Sony's presentation was outstanding...they covered so much, from PlayStation history, to PS3, PS2 and PSP, on and on...and still made it feel organized...I like the way Microsoft gave us a quick peek at
some games, including Gears of War 2...man, I just love Gears, don't care what anyone else thinks...it's not just graphics, it's just something about it...and the Microsoft conference sure ended with a BIG "WTF" moment...lol...the game that has me the most excited though? I think Sony won overall, the LBP presentation was awesome and Ratchet and Clank looked amazing for a PSN title. They did a good job with the videos showing all the titles they have coming out across their consoles.

Microsoft's big thing was FFXIII which was a true shocker but I didn't really dig all the casual stuff they are trying to do, they should play to their strengths which is the hardcore gamer.

While I did like Wii Music and the Snowboarding Nintendo conference was a big letdown. They did nothing to cater the hardcore at all but they did knock out the casual side which is what they are all about now.

I'm ready for the Tokyo Game Show.

Considering Sony was very aggressive and got Square by default because of nintendo's mistake in the 90's I would say that calling MS out on being copiers or non innovative is simply hot air.

MS is doing what they have to do as sony did in the 90's and has E3 08 now atm, with the 3 press conferences up. To think otherwise shows lack of judgment and maturity. I really wanted a Sony bombshell and all I got was a dud at the press conference.

I see some people saying that MS are copy cats because they are coming out with Lips and what I heard called "Home Lite" featuring avatars. We all know that the companies borrow ideas from each other. How long has MS had a video download service on Xbox Live?

Speaking of Xbox Live, the new format is going to rule, and avatars are the next logical step. Also for Live members to be able to participate in interactive events like 1 vs. 100, etc., will be a lot of fun.

That along with making Sony's biggest exclusive go multiplatform, was a great coup for them. Not that I care about FF, I've never played it.

Sony also did a great job. MAG looks amazing. Launching the movie service tonight is exciting for Sony fans, and the fact that you can put the movies on your PSP gives the service a unique touch.

I think the only real loser at E3 was Nintendo.

I think I'm just gonna give up on the video game community in general. What kind of message are you sending these companies if you only reward buying other people's exclusives and not new game announcements and support for their platforms? Of course Sony didn't have alot of gameplay footage they had to show THREE platforms. Microsoft cut off support of the xbox, they don't have a handheld and they gave up on the PC. Everyone said Microsoft's conference sucked until the FFXIII announcement.

I know I'm in the minority, but from a Marketing Strategy standpoint, I thought Nintendo's presentation was very, very good.

Note that this isn't to say that "I" liked Nintendo's offerings...but there's no denying that they did a very clean job of conveying and solidifying their dominance of the Casual Gamer market.

And they executed it perfectly. Instead of ol' Reggie opening up the show, who comes out but none other than a rep loudly proclaiming that she's a mother of young kids...precisely the same group to whom they want to convey their message.

Clearly, they weren't talking to you or I.

Who wants to buy an afterthought of an add-on sensor for the Wii-mote?

To me, Nintendo's a bit of a paradox, because my biggest pet-peeve with the company is that they repeatedly recycle the SAME ol' franchises to death!

That said, there's no denying that they are innovative and creative, which they clearly demonstrated today.

In my opinion, in overall, Sony had the best conference. I don't say it was amazing, but from the beginning to the end, there was some quality, surprises and good stuff.

Microsoft had a quite good beginning, but it falls quickly, being very boring until the FFXIII announcement. And Nintendo, i wasn't convinced at all, i though the Wii Motion Plus was a good idea, but i wonder why they didn't think about it sooner? (then the conspiracy though about Nintendo that made on purpose to release a 30$ accessory that will make big sales, etc...)

I hope you guys hate me and all but this is my opinion about what took place these 2 days:

after watching E3, i think microsoft won it, although their conference was pretty boaring and they showed ripoffs of stuff that we have seen before(Lips=singstar, Scene it=buzz) and they still havent showed Alan Wake, they ended their conference with bang by announcing FFXIII going multiplatform, that was just to shocking man. I know though that the PS3 version will be the lead platform so the quality will still be there, but now the game has to get downgraded to the lowest common denominator which is the 360, just like Devil may Cry 4.

Sony's E3 was pretty good, they edged out microsoft's presentation, but there was nothing that was shocking in my opinion. I mean come on, what happened to that game that the BBC reporter talked about which shocked him to his knees? yea they showed the games as well, especially some new ones that we havent heard before, but as I stated nothing that was shocking.

Nintendo's E3 was full of fail, im not even going to talk about it. it was just so wrong to watch. cant wait till i read a CNN article on how nintendo won E3, because thats just dead wrong.

Overall E3 was just too underwhelming and it shows that E3 is truly dead. Im pretty sure that if we had the old E3 back, we would of heard Huge and shocking announcements. but no.

i think sony took it this year, with Microsoft in second followed by nintendo. yes is true Microsoft released a bomb, but ff13 is also going to be released for the ps3 and on top of that ff13 will be released exclusively for the ps3 in japan where it really mattered in my opinion. but Microsoft showing was not bad either with the new features they showed.
Sony also lowered the price of the 80gb version of the ps3. And the video download service is going to be awesome because of the psp intergradation. the psp is shaping up to become the best handle media device.

No!! they did not show that much( about the games coming out but We know) but what they showed, is more capable of helping their Weakness and that fn Shooters Stigma.

Microsoft showcased a new multiplatform title, but no exclusives and no new IPs. They only have two titles worth mentioning for the rest of 2008, which isn't good.

Sony, on the other hand, showed off a TON of exclusives, as well as some new IPs that really got our attention. The video store was expected, but handled well, and the fact that it launches tonight is good.

When it comes down to it, it's the games that mattered most. And that's where Sony excelled.

I've got to say Nintendo suck, MS and Sony were pretty close, but i got to give the edge to MS, they did surprise everyone with the FFXII announcement. Sony showed a couple of new IPs but it was in all CG, show me some in game and i might get excited.

Sony showcased a TON of games, including some impressive new IPs, and the video store and HOME look rockin'. Nintendo's was split between sales figures and games, and the new IPs on their side look pretty interesting (I'm actually interested in the Wii now). Microsoft's though was a bit embarrassing, outside the FFXIII announcement. After showcasing the Mii clones and Singstar ripoff (compare screens of Lips to Singstar; you will NOT be able to tell the difference), they definitely needed something to get people's hopes up.

What's worrisome though is that Microsoft's biggest announcement was a PS3 game going multiplatform. No new IPs. No exclusives. At least the dashboard looks good.

The editors at 1up and IGN, as well most people on N4G, agree that Microsoft's showing was lackluster. Everyone was laughing at their Singstar, Mii, and Eyetoy ripoffs, and the only thing that saved it (outside of the nice dashboard update) was FFXIII Multiplatform at the very end. Microsoft tried to stay positive, but ended up proving that its lineup of exclusives is going to stay small for a long time. The fact that they didn't even show Too Human must be a slap in the face for Dennis Dyack and the team at Silicon Knights.

Microsoft won for Biggest Announcement, but Sony wins for best conference. Sony's was about an 8/10 though, so don't get to thinking they had an amazing one. Nintendo's was a bit boring at first, but they busted out the games pretty quickly. Their's was a 7/10. Microsoft was 7/10 with FFXIII, 4/10 without it.

I was surprised Sony didn't show anything from Naughty Dog, Team ICO or Factor5 etc. I mean there was no information about White Knight Chronicles. I think they are waiting for TGS to announce some more new titles. I am hoping they release a gameplay video of God of War 3 soon.

In reality I do not see how bluray would make the game necessarily better, but I asked just in case there was something that I was missing. I have said it, and I will say it again......I will take disc swapping over the extensive downloading to my hard drive. The 20gb in my 360 is horrible.......and the 60gb in my ps3 will not be able to take too much more.

If japanese version releases in mid 09, that would mean 4 years of devolopment time for PS3 and it should take 6 months to localize the NA and EU ps3 versions.

Development time for 360 is shorter so it probably should take two years on the 360. considering development won't start on the 360 till after the Japanese Ps3 releases (probably 2009) so you're looking at a 2011 or late 2010 release date for the 360 version.

Admitting that Nintendo has gone so mass market they don't count anymore, Sony announced.... dowloadable moves. 360 already has that, and with the Netflix announcement, Sony is still playing catch-up. Sony announced God of War 3, but no release date and no gameplay footage. MS showed single-player GOW2, actual game footage, and footage from other great exclusive games (Fable 2, Banjo and Kazooie) that are out THIS YEAR. Sony gets stuffed again. Microsoft shows new look dashboard, avatars, new party system across games and movies, etc.- Sony "promises" that when you "finally" get to see the Home Beta, it will be worth the wait. Uh, we've been waiting. MS wins again. So couple that with the news that Sony's #1 exclusive game is no longer exclusive in the US and Europe, no way did Sony beat Microsoft this year. It is being PORTED to the Xbox 360...and will be on multiple discs!

The PS3 version has been in development since 2005 and will be on a 50GB bluray disc just like MGS4.

FF13 will be exclusive in Japan where it will sell the most.
It will probably release in europe and North America first before the Xbox 360 version, unless square-enix holds up the release until the Xbox 360 version is done.

The game will be good on both systems...but we all know the PS3 version will probably be better and have more content. By the time FF13 comes out late next year...the PS3 will be at $299 or less price just like the Xbox 360...

Localization for the English version of FF12 took a while I think. Wasn't it like almost a year before we had that game in the US?

Plus, according to reports, FF13 is being made on PC. If that is the case, then I'm pretty sure that porting that to the 360 would not take very long at all. But, we'll just have to see.

So far, there has been a lot of confusion about this whole thing, and hopefully square will come out with some type of official statement to clear things up.

I dont work for SONY, so dont take my opinion as FACT. However, I do think that if anyone just pauses, and look at the big picture for a moment, they will see why SONY allowed for FFXIII to go multiplat except for JAPAN.

They aren't banking on just one big game from a Sony console, they are trying to get all of the big games they can in order to compete. The GTAs, Metal Gears, Maddens, Final Fantasies....these are the games that shaped the Playstatin brand over the years, and these are some of the big names that gamers adore.

The more proven franchises that Microsoft can take from Sony, the better the opportunity that they have to keep PS3 sales down and keep the race tight. If the assumption is that there are still gamers waiting for FF13 to release before buying a PS3, the fact that the game comes on the 360 now could be factor to sway buyers to the Microsoft side.

Microsoft is taking a "me too" approach, and in a way, its smart to do so. If you can offer some of the best things that the other guy does in an equal/better fashion, then there is a chance to take more market share. All 3 companies have done this to some extent. Despite everything that has happened I still think the PS3 won the conference.

Why?

Well Microsoft showed mostly multiplatform demo games with the exception of a Gears of War 2 showing and a surprise announcement from Square Enix.
Though MS did announce FFXIII is coming to the 360 Square Enix also said that it would come out a year after the PS3 Version came out and that it will only be sold in America and Europe and that FFXIII Versus still remains a PS3 Exclusive.

Nintendo had some cool stuff but failed to touch the hardcore side of their fans.

Sony didn't really have enough time to show anything and their was barely any game play of to other exclusive games except Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet.
But by hearing from many developers about how good the PS3 is to work with I don't think the PS3 will be going anywhere anytime soon but still has alot to prove in the long run same with the 360.

I've also noticed that these conference winners seem to switch every year.
2006: 360 had that win cuz of the early 1 year head start.
2007: PS3 won.
2008: PS3 wins again but barely slips by.

Overall I feel this whole E3 this year was wack.
Same old stuff only reviewed in a 2 hour period from every company with only glimpses of other games that won't even come out this year.

I still believe all 3 consoles will be around but both Microsoft and Sony still have more fighting to do to win this next gen title of which console will win this generation.

What's strange is that PS3 Conference last year was fire and stole Microsoft's spot light only now Sony decided to take it easy because their selling more consoles this year.

I'll give Microsoft credit for shocking the hell out of me ahhaha. But after that shock wore off I looked at their line up and realized that they showed absolutely no new ips of substantial value. Now if Microsoft had gotten FF XIII exclusively on their console or had at least shown some gameplay footage or a new friggin trailer I would have been impressed. But honestly that's the same trailer that's been circulating the internet for 3 years.

In all honest I really wasn't too impressed with Sony's conference either. They had Resistance gameplay which literally blew me away, and infamous is now one of my most anticipated titles, but I was hoping that they would have shown an actual trailer for God of War instead of just showing a teaser. I would have also liked to see a trailer for the new Twisted Metal, or Naughty Dogs next project.

P.S. I'm actually a little worried that after 3 years in development Square-Enix still wasn't comfortable showing new footage. To me that says this game is still along way off, and I kind of feel like we collectively as gamers have just let them coast through another E3 without giving us any new information and once again their ip is the talk of the town. I think this has all been blown out of proportion and really hope that Square-Enix show some "public" footage at TGS, since their showing in August is most likely closed door.

All in all I think E3 was pretty lackluster this year, which is a shame since it won't really be remembered for what it was. Don't get me wrong Final Fantasy XIII was a huge announcement, but does anyone else find it funny that once again Microsoft's biggest game is multi platform and absolutely nothing new was shown. In my oppinion Sony neither Sony nor Microsfot won and we should all stop giving Square-Enix so much attention for doing absolutely nothing.

All the conferences were boring, seriously Nintendo just talked about sales and annouced mostly shovelware, then you got MS, they annouced some games which look pretty cool but most of them are coming to the other consoles and PC and then you got Sony, by god I was bored tbh. Littlebigplanet, God of War 3 and Motorstorm 2 looked great and I will be picking them up when they are released however this E3 so far is the worst.

Won this without a doubt even with ff13 coming to 360 eventually. ff13 Versus is still exclusive because its using the crystal tools engine to the fullest extent (which is built specifically for the ps3). Anyways MS has not revealed not 1 new title NOT 1. How you have E3 and not reveal a new title.... Sony revealed DC Universe GoW3 footage of inFamous and all the titles we all know of. Microsoft: Aside from the titles Gears of War 2 and Fable 2, Microsoft didn't give much besides the whole "Avatar" showcase and their XMB (Xbox Media Bar; regardless of what anyone says, this thing is the XMB in 3D...). Live has a nice facelift and their news regarding their partnership with Netflix was pretty impressive. Aside from that, they displayed hand-on gameplay of third-party titles also releasing on the PS3... so their _presentation_ wasn't really "great". It was mediocre.

Nintendo: Umm... yea. Music, a Wiimote attachment that makes it more sensitive to movements, and "Animal Crossing". No discussion of their next first-party release? NOPE. Nintendo dropped the ball.

Sony: They had more display of games/news than any of the above. PSN video store, MAG, Motorstorm 2, new Ratchet PSN game, Grand Turismo Live TV feed, LifewithPlaystation talks, Resistance 2 new gameplay footage, 130 new PS2 titles announced, PSP Resistance announced, PSP/PSN video integration, LBP presentation/capabilities, DC Universe (although it looks like it needs A LOT of work), God of War III trailer. One thing that pissed me off: NO RELEASE DATES. When are we getting Home? When is GOW3 coming? MAG? Where are the RPG's? What happened to Killzone 2? etc.

From what I saw, I personally thought that Sony took the show (although neither were "OMGz" impressive). They had more to show, more to say and they are showing that they are STILL working with developers to make sure that even last gen gamers get games for their PS2.

I think Nintendo came in last and Sony and MS tied for 1st. The new games for Sony equal in Wow factor of FFXIII coming to Xbox 360. I think both have strong end of the year line ups so wether you own a PS3 or 360 you will have plenty to keep you busy.

People keep forgetting, MS have exclusives for 2009 we all know of, like, Halo Wars, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake, Halo Chronicles, ect... They just didn't talk about them here, i think is a good strategy that they concentrate on what the got for 2008 in the press conference and then maybe show some 2009 games during the rest of the week. We still dont know what Bungie is cooking for us, and maybe this other games i mention make their showing later during the week. We'll see.

Some issues could have been addressed, namely Home's tentative release date...but with the Conference running a staggering hour-and-a-half...there was already an abundance of info being thrown out to the listeners.

Like 'em or not, Ninty was successful in addressing and reinforcing their core target market comprised of Pokemon-toting tots and wanna-be-hip Soccer Moms with laser-like precision.

They've also convinced aforementioned market to purchase yet another slew of questionable, needless peripherals.

It would've been a D-, but I can't help but feel compassion for the onslaught of lawsuits they're about to become subject to by Apple, Sony, and Nintendo, for a blatant series of copyright infringements.

My 2 cents:

Honestly, if MS didn't have FFXIII announcement, everyone would have thought it was boring, only because nothing new was really brought to the table, other than LIPS (Singstar rip off), Avatar (Mii's ripoff), and dashboard update (Which look like a combonation of PS3 XMB and Mii).

I think the Gears of War showing and Fable 2 were really good, but most of the other stuff just seemed like filler. They brought various 3rd party guys on stage to talk about Rock Band, and Guitar hero to announce a few exclusive tracks to their system, Big whoop dee do, and in the case of rock band, a 6 week time exclusive. Most of the stuff Msoft showed is multiplatform, they might as well have advertised for Sony and Nintendo. Other than some DLC for Fallout 3. Really if they didn't have FFXIII announcement, it may have been the worst press conf, consideirng their position they are heading in.

I thought all 3 conference was boring.

I think probably Sony showed the most, but their pacing was not great in mind mind, Jack Trenton (This is where they missed Phil Harrison is way more confident in front of the mic and press) was boring, even when announcing big time games. I don't like how they casually mention God of War 3.... I also think Jack was talking way too much (Not his fault), but why didn't they break it up with their other heads? Like Kaz or Their new guy who replaced Phil Harrison as President of the software side of Sony. It was pretty much him all show long. This is where Msoft and Nintendo did well, they had Reggie talk, Miyamoto and others, same with Msoft. It was bascally all jack with Ted price and Eric Lampell talking a little bit, and the Zipper guy at the end. I thought it was really clever to show all their stats, and charts in LittleBigPlanet, it shows off how amazing that game is, and made it non boring. I was kind of disappointed in REsistance, while the 300 foot monster looked fantastic, and the outside visuals look good, the inside the building visuals looked a bit dull, and basic, maybe all the memory, and visuals went into the huge monster? Or maybe beens spoiled by the crazy good visual of killzone 2.

A nice huge surprise that the launch of the video store with some significant partners (Plus the ability to download and OWN the movie copy and share it across portable devices like PSP) is huge, and all by the end of tonight, I didnt expect that. LEts see how smooth Sony will be lanuching this. MAG looked interesting, but I won't judge till there is more info.

Nintendo maybe I'm not right guy to be commenting, was the most boring. Not much news about games or hardware, just more talk about how well they are selling (I guess they are allowed, since they've been whooping ass), most the games they did mention were meh. (Other than Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars). They spent i dunno too long on Wii Music, but hey they spent a long time last year on Wii Fit, and we know how that all turned out. I thought they spent not enough time with the I guess the Sequel to Wii Sports, with the new Wii 1 to 1 controller, that looked cool.

I think people overall were disappointed, just judging from the rumors that were out there...The Microsoft Newton Controller (Like wii) was a no show, along with alan wake, splinter cell, etc. Nintendo no announcement of new mario, Zelda or Kid Icaris title, and Sony had all this talk about this simply amazing game, that'll wow you (no idea which game it is) not at the show, nor was Quantam Dream, Their Rockstar Exclusive that they paid for, a year or so ago, Twisted Metal PS3, or any mention about Wipeout for PS3...

In all honesty, Microsoft won the Most Shocking Revelation award. (FFXIII). But Sony displayed a presentation that definitely gave me the feeling that there is a LOT more to look forward to than just Final Fantasy.... especially with God of War 3, Infamous, and that 256 player behemoth MAG.

Let me clarify. While MS Press Event had the shocker of all time their Press Event as a whole was on life support. While better than last years Press Event but still not as good as it could of been. I mean what did MS really announce that we didn't know about? Was there any NEW GAME for next year? While FFXIII was big news it is still won't be playable for quite some time like TGS 09 or even Spring 2010.

Nintendo on the other hand is the clear loser in the battle of best of show at E3. I mean BORING. At first i was like it can't be any worst than last years e3 but no Nintendo had to top them all with the best use of Power Point Presentation. I mean really is GTA DS or Animal Crossing suppose to be that "Core" game that you was hinting at all those months ago?

Then there is Sony which had a good showing but not as much of wow factor like last year. While the announcements about the video store coming tonight. Also Resistance 2 was shown playable and Little Big Planet which suprised me as how they made a level just for the Numbers part of the conference. That part made me really excited. Also God of War III was teased at while CGI was good enough for me where i know for sure to see this next year around march.

In my Opinion this E3 press event belongs to Microsoft because of the bombshell that was dropped yesterday with FFXIII coming on Xbox 360. Even though MS didn't hardly anything new in terms of games I think it goes to them because of that announcement. I still believe that if that announcement was never made I think Sony would have won best e3 press event because of the sheer fact that they showed titles coming this fall and next spring.

As a whole all 3 of the Press Conferences were a underwhelming. It is almost as if MS Sony, and Nintendo were tired or fatigued this E3. Like I am to tired to surprise people. That is just my take on it.

Most of the stuff announced by Microsoft is scheduled for release this year, where as, the majority of "PS3" related stuff showcased by Sony isn't scheduled to release until next year, or beyond. So, it may look like Sony had to most to show, but when you factor this in, who really had the best showing??? And I'm not even talking about FFXIII. As big as an announcement as that was, it's not my cup of tea and it won't be released this year, obviously. Nintendo's was horrible - It was boring. And if I hear Shaun Whites pathetic laugh one more time I'll kill someone. Kami was annoying too. I always hated Nintendo for jamming sales figures down my throat. Very weak showing of games though.

Microsofts was good - The FF announcment was awesome. But everything else felt like a dig at Sony. It even seemed like a stupid show of upmanship between Rock Band and GH. They may suck at E3 but when they do have a game, you have to admit that its top notch quality and always get high reviews in gamerankings.com. Never underestimate miyamoto...that man is a genius!!! Wait till a new mario or zelda comes out or even the undercover kid icarus game....you all will be blown away.

As for the Wiimotion plus and the Wii resort, you have to admit...it was kinda kool and really precise when using the wiimote plus, not even the darwin controller can capture that preciseness....imagine the possibilities with that.....You can make violent games even more accurate when stabbing someone.

Also, Animal crossing will sell like it or not, its rated as one of the 10 ten most addicting videogames of all time.

As i said before, e3 isnt really important....its just a hype machine. The real suprises will come out unexpectedly.

In terms of games on display it's a tie that round because of Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5 and Gears of War 2...

Are you f*ckin serious, who did this poll? Sony crushed hands down and no one can deny it. MS had Gears 2, Fable, and Lips. Those are the only exclusives that are comin out this fall for the box. They presented videos of several proven games, the videos looked great. They showed a new dashboard avatar system that will let you among other things participate in live contests and win actual prizes. They announced a new netflix deal that will allow people to stream movies and tv to their tvs via the 360. They announced that one of playstation's greatest games will now also come to the 360, this announcement caused the internet to explode with blog and forum commenting frenzy, the N4G news of that announcement recieved the most comments ever in N4G history.

It was a tie we got to see actual real time gameplay on stage from Gears2 and Fable 2 plus the the RE5 gameplay footage was amazing not a fan of FFXIII but its good to see people who like that game get to play it on the 360 netflix is a great addition the avitars not a good idea in opinion

The sony show had great footage of R2 and LBP not a fan of that style of game but it should appeal to women and kids the MAG 256 online play was a great surprise but will you get amount of people in one game i wonder but no release dates on alot of the games

Microsoft was phenomenal right off the bat, you cannot deny that. If you surf around the other sites they too have polls going and all of them are overwhelmingly pointing towards MS being the best. In previous years you would see these polls going back and forth showing there really wasn't a clear cut winner. This year with the drastically skewed numbers going towards Microsoft you know they brought the goods, and they did. Come on Sony fans we are better than this, we can't and won't wim them all. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the competition and say job well done. They brought the goods and we simply couldn't match it. However, the sun will come up tomorrow. Nintendo once again let down the hardcore gamer. As a LONG time Nintendo fan I've lost a lot of faith in the company. Even the casual games they announced were lacklustre. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo stopped bothering with E3.

Until the FFXIII announcement I thought the MS conference lacked energy. There were few (no?) new IP's. MS seemed like they were desperate to cover the bases that their competitors have effortlessly taken - It was like 'OK, SingStar is popular - here's LIPS'; 'Eye Toy is popular - here's 'Whatchamacallit at the Movies'; 'HOME is generating hype and Mii's are cool, here's Avatars'. There was nothing fresh and it's worrying that now MS have got a nice chunk of the market they already seem to be stagnating.

Gears 2 looked like a bigger badder more of the same sequel (which I'm fine with), but it didn't have the impact Gears 1 had when announced.

If it wasn't for the FFXIII announcement, the MS conference would have been only slightly better than Nintendo's.

Sony actually seemed the most comfortable. They seem to have a more organic approach to the industry. Rather than creating distinct pockets of hardcore or casual games, they just presented a line up that said 'Fun'. Lot's of new IP, and they are trying different stuff to really push the industry forward.

Sony lacked that megatonne announcement to rival Microsoft, but of the three I think Sony edged it by quite a margin purely on the wealth of established IP, brand new IP, and forward thinking.

They let themselves down by not having more firm release dates though.

They were all fairly boring but by a margin, Sony won with MS in close second and then Nintendo was somewhere off in left field. Sony is bringing some exciting new games to the table that will be pushing even their own hardware whereas MS is bringing a few sequels and nothing really awesome. If it were not for the FFXIII announcement, they would have been right down there with Ninty in terms of suckage.

Who cares about Final Fantasy, I was much more impressed by there other offerings, it all boils down to opinions and IMO if comments like the one below sum up Sony then all I can say is I thought Infamous looked good, it was also the only one that showed Gameplay. Gears of War 2 out in november and the PS3 didn't even show any KZ2 new stuff which has been in developtment for ages, at least MS showed stuff ingame.

yes sony won this because of the many different things they had to offer (which I shouldn't have to name because of the many people who already have..)however I will say as a huge FF fan so I was a little hurt by them going multi-platform... but thats only because I mostly bought my system to play it, that being said I don't mind because I still get to play the masterpiece of a game, Sony i believe validated that I didn't just waste my money by showcasing a variety of things to come on the PS3 along with PSP.

As for Microsoft I was impressed with the actual gamefootage of some of their games like gears which I would love to play

MS's conference was dull. GeoW 2 looks great. Don't care much for karaoke games and quiz games. Without the FF13 surprise it would have been forgotten at once.

Nintendo was even more dull, without much new or interesting. Just announcing that the Mario and Zelda teams were working hard, with no specifics was disappointing. A new GTA for DS was as exciting as it got.

Sony had the best presented conference with some exciting stuff. GoW3, inFamous, Resistance 2, DC online and M.A.G. to mention some.

The only reason anyone is saying MS "won" is because of FF XIII. That's it. Gears 2 is cool but we've seen the game before. Everyone is still leary of Fable 2 if it will actually meet expectations. Everything else was multiplatform. Or a rip off of Sony or Nintendo. People seem to forget that FF XIII is multiplatform in certain territories. The key being multiplatform. It's not like MS "stole" FF XII away from Sony. Besides, Sony still gets it first and there plenty of people in the US and Europe who will import it just to play it as soon as it comes out.

It's funny how all the 360 fanboys talk about how Sony talked about the PS2 and PSP "more" than the PS3. Well, you have to do that when you have 3 successful platforms. People forget they talked alot about PSN, which you fanboys have obviously forgotten, most people access through the PS3. If anything, you could call it a tie between MS and Sony with the FF XII announcement and Sony just showing off a ton of games. But no one wants to admit to the possibility of a tie.

FF13 won't come to the 360 1 yr. b4 it releases for the 360 - somehow MS neglected to share this tidbit of info.

Sony's video service is just as extensive as MS, and instead of just watching shows you can watch the whole channel on PS3! GT TV will also air previously untelevised events (such as the WRC cup and the D1 finals)

MS's Mii system is a weak response to PS Home.

PSN has better games coming to it - Ragdoll fighters (SSMB clone but still looks fun as hell), Socom, Flower, Linger in Shadows, etc.

Over all PS3 announced more new games - Mag, DC universe, R + C Booty, etc.

The fact that MS decided to only show games coming out in '08 was a sign of weakness in my opinion. All other companies decided to show games that would release til the end of the fiscal year. This has always been common practice. I think that maybe MS doesn't have a strong enough lineup to do this.

Come on, DC Universe?!? I can't believe Sony is using Superman and co. as a flagship title! This was a really weak press conference. They didn't even focus on Killzone 2. The FACT of the matter is that MS blew away the competition this year at E3..it's undenyable and undebatable. It was such a landslide that the Bungie announcment they had in store for today got pushed back. MS was planning on dropping another megaton today to trumph any exciting news that Sony may have had. But Sony didn't deliver so MS will wait a little while longer and let people keep buzzing about what went down at E3. In the next few short weeks MS will drop the news of the new killer app. PS3s are now being sold at a mad rate, not off of store shelfs but out of peoples living rooms.. I don't see how this is even close. Even though we already knew about it, Gears of War 2 easily owned every other game in the show. FF13 looks good, but let's face it, online games with a good solo campaigns are really what's hot right now. COD4, Halo3, and Gears 1 have already proven that. As far as a game with 256 players, that is a little too chaotic. Even when you go from 12 on COD4 to the 18 in groundwar it gets annoying. Im honestly more interested in games like Gears or Left 4 Dead where co-op is more important than volume.

MS focus and direction was copied which has me worried about the 360 future.
