Dragon's Dogma Online PS4 Version Runs at 1080p, 60 FPS Unlocked; 30 FPS on PS3

It was known that Dragon's Dogma Online ran at 1080p on PS4, but yesterday during an experience meeting held in Tokyo, Game Director Kent Kinoshita revealed that the game runs at 60 FPS on Sony's console, while the PS3 version runs at 30 FPS.

you cant expect solid fixed fps on an mmo, especially on console . depending on the number of chars you have on the screen itll always fluctuate. ff14 is 1080@60fps but it runs at 3fps during hunts.
that doesnt make it a 3fps game and it doesnt make it a solid locked 60fps either

Depends on what they mean by variable. Are we talking up-and-down all the time and closer to 30? Or near 60 most of the time with drops here and there?

In any case, pretty sure FF14 is 30FPS max on PS4. Not played it mind, just watched it over the shoulder of someone who was.

ff14 on ps4 has unlocked 60 fps.
you can change resolution to 720p to make it more stable but its definitely not locked 30.
id know. ive played it for at least 5 months

Im sure it might happen, but I've never noticed any fps dip in ffxiv on ps4. Unless it is really bad, I'm usually clueless about those dips. And even when it is very noticeble, if it is anything like bloodborne, in which it only happens for a second, I don't really mind it.

Agreed. The only time I've ever seen even a slight drop in frame rate in ffxiv is when there are a ton of people hanging out in Mor Dhona.

PS3 probably 30 frames and lower at times while at 720p. Also PS4 will have better textures and such. But I will get the PC version.

I don't remember many PS3 games that can display 100 fully detailed player characters on screen.

FFXIV on PS3 starts to make them invisible at 20, which is massively inconvenient.

Care to indicate one?

It was not made as a current-gen title which means it's not optimized to its fullest on the Ps4 nor PC. You can clearly see this on how outdated its visuals are. The Ps3 was considered greatly in the development of this game and is also probably the main console it was developed for. The Ps4 and PC are just getting ports.

I agree unlocked seems more stuttery compared to locked 60. case in point thief with mantle for starts going into 80-90fps but when it drops to 55-60 it stutters, where as keeping it at 60 with dx11 it's as smooth as butter

All locked/unlocked means is vsync on or off. Frame dips can happen either way.

It means it can go higher or lower. I just hope it has V sync in that case.

it will probably drop to 20 fps in towns and 50-60 in dungeons. That's how it is with MMOS, even when using a powerful PC. Neverwinter on XO also runs on unlocked 60. I did hope for DD Online to look better than the ps3 release back in the day (one of my favo games ever). Too bad they use exactly same engine with no improvements. Before anyone will say "It's an MMO!" well, ESO is an mmo and looks great.

For anyone that knows how MMORPG and similar games are, it's not misleading at all. Game works at the indicate frame rate most of the time, but it's bound to dip when there are 100 characters on screen, which doesn't happen during actual gameplay.

Dogma, as amazing as it was, never had a good framerate. So this is fine, so long as it does not return to slideshow game play I'm good.

I game for almoust 15 years and i feel fucking old because i dont understand this 30/60 fps bullshit , and honestly im glad because i value games that are made for enjoyment not for fucking eye sight .

The difference my friend is how smooth the gameplay is, if you have ever played a game on PC then you can notice the difference when changing the graphics and resolution settings, if you lowered the resolution then you will feel that the gameplay is much smoother and faster, and the input time has decreased and that is because FPS has increased (performance increase at the expense of quality), and vice versa when you increase the resolution. (sorry for my bad English)

dragon's dogma had terrible framerates on the ps3, the reason why i just couldnt get into the game. seriously doubt it will hold at 30fps a majority of the time

I'm just wondering if this will be F2P or if there will be monthly/yearly subscription to play it. Also, what happened to Dragon's Dogma 2? I was hoping for a sequel for all systems, including last gen. Is this even coming to the U.S. If not, that would be a real shame. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
