I can't wait to see gameplay! And since this is Insomniac, I have no worries.

medman3725d ago

I thought Sunset Overdrive died shortly after release? Where am I wrong?

tinynuggins3725d ago

I think Sunset overdrive just got it's 3rd DLC release a few days ago. Hardly dead.

Rimeskeem3725d ago

R & C isn't about how long it lasts, but about the amazing stories, platforming, and humor it offers.

rezzah3725d ago

I guess you never played a R&D game.

4Sh0w3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

Sunset Overdrive is really fun, one of the best games this gen, I still love running amuck in the colorful crazy world Insomniac created.

The sequel will be day 1 purchase for me.

subtenko3724d ago

Evolve got DLC and that games dead....

Deadlead3724d ago

Pity this game didn't sell better. If the franchise comes to PS4 I'd definitely buy. Resistance R&C if you ask me SO shoulda been on the PS4 to begin with given Insomniacs rapport with PlayStation gamers.

showtimefolks3725d ago

i hope sunset overdrive comes to ps4, since insomniac owns the IP anything is possible

or atleast future entries into the series

Gamer19823725d ago

Its possible they never said it couldn't and MS have said they own the IP but to be fair there hasn't been that much demand for it has there?

gustave1543725d ago

Nah it didn't sell very well

DarXyde3725d ago

It's a crime it didn't sell very well, honestly. I think if Microsoft offers it on Games with Gold soon, they can generate some hype for it.

Insomnia_843724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

It's very possible. I just checked and the game hasn't even reached a million in sells! That's bad!

Bennibop3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

I think it was a mistake to release sunset on x1 and not ps4. On playstation insomniac have a known fan Base it was kind of stupid to release a new ip on a machine where you are an unknown entity.

Kal0psia3724d ago

What are you guys on about, it sold fairly well. At nearly 800 thousand that's pretty good for new IP. So I think you guys are exaggerating it, especially comparing it to current gen exclusives which on average have sold a lil' over a million.

Sitdown3724d ago

@Bennibop,
So in your mind it makes sense to once again not own your title? How does it not make since to build your fan base amongst all the consoles?

-Foxtrot3724d ago

Put it this way, why would Insomniac want to keep the IP if they were going to make the game an exclusive anyway

I mean think about it, they were turned away from Sony because Sony wanted to keep the IP where Insomniac wanted to own it....yet they went to Microsoft where they got to keep the IP but somehow we are supposed to believe that it's an exclusive.

If it actually is an exclusive then the question we should all be asking is "why the hell did you fight so hard to keep the IP if you were going to stick it to one console only?"

Get what I mean.

showtimefolks3724d ago

Foxtrot

totally man, sony has always treated Insomniac like their step child with not much advertisement budget or exposure. Sony tried buying insomniac few times but were rejected

so maybe insomniac wanted to prove something to sony

but in the end they do own the IP but lost a lot f sales, i believe on ps4 sunset overdrive as an exclusive would have easily done 2-3 million.

Kal0psia3724d ago

@Foxtrot

Simple, ...revenue.

This is the same deal Microsoft had with Gears of War and the first Mass Effect til' apparently EA bought Bioware and their titles. This is how Microsoft does some of it's deals. As long as Microsoft publishes it and remains exclusive (as part of the deal obviously), the benefit for owning their IP is they get a large part of the revenue therefore benefiting the company hugely. Which is very developer friendly, they get most of the cash and can make better games. On top of that, if the game is successful they can sell it for a lot of money. Like Gears of war, hehehe ....

I thought this was an already known fact. So til' Insomniac get's bought I highly doubt you'll see SO on any other console. Highly doubt it.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

hmmm. Could this have a surprise release this year? It likely could have.

I'm hoping last guardian will be another surprise too.

calis3725d ago

It was originally announced to be coming out in 2015.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3725d ago

I didn't know. I guess it could be revealed at e3 and released this year. That would be awesome.

ChickenOfTheCaveMan3725d ago

The movie is coming this mid-year in theater, so I assume the game would release shortly after. E3 will confirm this.

Genuine-User3725d ago

Let us see the greatness as well Insomniac.

SoapShoes3725d ago

Not going to let Sunset Overdrive die? I smell a PS4 release.

SoapShoes3725d ago

Yeah I'm sure they have a sequel planned, probably in preproduction.

uptownsoul3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

or, since Insomniac has control over the IP, a multiplat sequel???

Mikefizzled3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

Maybe multiplatform. Just depending if SO did enough on its own on Xbox One and depends if Insomniac respect Microsofts support enough to keep it exclusive. Very interesting position they are in.

curtis923725d ago

It sold pretty poorly for being an XB1 exclusive. They'd be wise to make their money back on PS4.

Gamer19823725d ago

Sequel this early? No way especially since there a 1 game at a time team. Though a PS4 port could be done as it wouldn't take long since both consoles are on same architecture. Just we don't know how long that exclusive license is.

_-EDMIX-_3725d ago

lol, I think we all know its being ported to PS4. Its sorta a matter of time rather then "if" at this point.

They own the IP for a reason....

Software_Lover3725d ago

............ You got that, from that?

PrinceOfAllSaiyans3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

Based of it selling like shit on the Xbox One. Those type of games don't really appeal to that demographic.

OT- I can't wait for Ratchet & Clank, it's going to looks so damn beautiful on the next gen PlayStation.

S2Killinit3725d ago

its a fair inference. If Insomniac owns the IP, its very possible that the sequel will come to PS4.

Crummybear3725d ago

It is possible considering they own the IP and the sales on Xbox 1 alone weren't phenomenal. Either that, or they release on PC.

gangsta_red3725d ago

They weren't phenomenal? Where did you read that?

uptownsoul3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

@gangsta_red

Phil Spencer did say that Sunset Overdrive didn't achieve what Microsoft wanted. So that would certainly mean that Sunset's sales "weren't phenomenal"

tinynuggins3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

@Uptownsoul,

Where did he say that? Do you have a link by chance? Not trolling, just wanted to read it if he said that. Thanks.

uptownsoul3725d ago

@Tinynuggins

"Spencer also went on to say that Sunset Overdrive didn't achieve what Microsoft wanted either, but that it was still a solid entry into the Xbox One game library." Last line of the article

Bnet3433725d ago

MS might try to lock up the SO IP.

WeAreLegion3725d ago

Insomniac only developed on XBO so they could keep the IP. Just letting you know. :)

badz1493725d ago

Lock up an IP that's not selling very well? Seems like a very good move therez /s

proudxgamer3725d ago

I highly doubt it. PS4 freaks are weird. Now all of a sudden you guys welcome SOD.....didn't 1886 die soon after releasing... hmmmm double standard Fanboys.... smh

Crummybear3724d ago

I feel a disturbance in your jimmies. Look, Insomniac has done mostly PS games for its entire excistance. When this game came out, I knew it was going to be excellent. But its just business bud, they need to make money. Putting the game on PC or PS4 is almost inevitable. Its just a matter of how long their exclusive deal with MS lasts.

xDHAV0K24x3724d ago

why do you guys want an Xbox game so bad?

kraenk123724d ago

Noone wants it bad. It's a teeny dude bro shooter but it's a fun game for some. It sold pretty bad and the port should be easy so why shouldn't Insomniac port it and get their money back from their loyal fans?!

WizzroSupreme3725d ago

Wonder how big Insomniac must be now to juggle two series at once. The first Ratchet & Clank's a mess and I'm glad they're overhauling it – it deserves to be a brand new-game and honesty, a great Ratchet & Clank game would be my number one reason to buy a PS4, remake or not. Sunset Overdrive's a barrel of fun, but I miss the buddy duo that defined Insomniac for so many years.

Sunset Overdrive just doesn't have the identity yet to get behind, but it sure felt more like a Ratchet & Clank game than All For One did. Maybe an open-world Ratchet & Clank game is in order?

How ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Did Dual Protagonists Right (And Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Didn’t)

Shaz from Pixel Swish: “Both Insomniac Games and Ubisoft have given us games with dual protagonists. However, where Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s duo feel exactly the same, Assassin’s Creed Shadow’s Yasuke and Naoe feel unique.”

They are exactly the same because it's another version of Ratchet within the multiverse. It's not Ratchet himself or a female version of him but it's someone else who's taken his place / role within that Universe.

The_Hooligan67d ago

Agreed! A better comparison take would have been between AC Syndicate and AC Shadows.

gold_drake69d ago

with ratchet, they are the same, they play the exact same.

im not even sure why this needs to be said, we all know.

isarai69d ago

They weren't trying to make them play differently, literally 2 versions of the same person. Wo ur saying they failed at something they never set out to do 🤨

Profchaos67d ago

What in the f who even thought of that concept and connect these two games that released years apart and have nothing to do with each other.

You could of said fuel protagonist vs other times where AC did duel protagonist or a game like GTA v that allows for on the fly switching

Like how desperate are they for clicks

Levii_9267d ago

Rivet's character was more useless and forced than Abby from TLOU2.

MULTIVERSESSSSSSS!!! Remember that trend people lol? Also remeber how a beloved vilain Dr Neferious was reduced to a braindead wimp and a parody of himself?

P_Bomb67d ago

“MULTIVERSESSSSSSS!!! Remember that trend people lol?”

It’s still going on. Especially @ Marvel.

Insomniac Collectively Decided to "Double Down on Story-Driven Character Action Games"

Insomniac's Ted Price talks about the ballooning game development costs, and how it was a studio decision to focus on single-player games.

Cacabunga90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

Wise decision, but give up a little on spiderman please as well

darkwalker90d ago

In other words, Sony forced them lol.

isarai89d ago

Literally only ever made sp games even when they left sony 🙄😒

-Foxtrot89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Not really. These days it would be more believable if you found out Sony tried to force them do generic live service slop

isarai89d ago

Which they did and cancelled it, thank goodness 😆

Inverno90d ago

I'll be that guy. Their writing needs work cause the story in both Spiderman games were pretty bad. I'm all for more SP games, I prefer em, but man is writing in games in general just gawd awful.

Extermin8or3_90d ago

First spidermans writing was fine, second hand some points where it could have been better and based on the leaks due to the hack alot of content for cut for whatever reason. Had it managed to stick to the story that was originally written without the sometimes frankly weird changes that were made - it would have been much better written.

Inverno89d ago

I thought the first game was too crowded and the characters that should've gotten more attention didn't get enough due to having a rushed Sinister 6 inclusion. But hey thnx for the reply rather than just hitting the disagree.

-Foxtrot89d ago

"enough due to having a rushed Sinister 6 inclusion"

It wouldn't be so bad if they continued this development in background of Spiderman 2 so when Spiderman 3 comes you had the Green Goblin and the Sinister Six as the end goal.

Oh but no...they decided to have Kraven kill most of them off screen and them kill Kraven off at the end when he was part of the original Sinister Six in the comics, how dumb can you get.

Flewid63889d ago

This isn't even the consensus on these games.

-Foxtrot89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Depends on what game

First Spiderman had a great story

Miles Morales was alright changing the Tinkerer, giving them a brand new origin as Miles old friend to give him a villain over creating his own original villain (which he REALLY needs, even in the comics) was pretty silly. Some of her decisions, writing wise, in the game just made no sense where her sacrifice in the end didn't feel earned.

Spiderman 2...I'll give you that one. They tried to include far too many things story wise and they just couldn't spin that many plates. Harry's return, friction with MJ, Miles, Miles friends and Family, Hailey, Venom, the Symbiote war, Kraven and his Last Hunt. It just felt all over the place and Peter didn't to really shine like he did in the first game.

Extermin8or3_88d ago

Second game was subject to loads of cuts which is why the story feels off I think. https://youtu.be/VEONGKG1gL...

Travesty90d ago

Where are the days where we could have both a really good story and a really fun multiplayer without sacrificing one of the two.. It doesn’t have to be a live service title to be multiplayer. I understand there’s a lot of work that goes into keeping up with it, but still.

Inverno89d ago

Those days were left on the PS360 era. I spent too much time during my depressed teenage years playing and sucking at Uncharted 2. I know people really enjoyed the Gears MP too, and Halo doesn't need to even be explained. Some games did it right, too many tacked it on, and F2P ruined it all.

isarai89d ago

I think the main problem is that everyone overthinks the multiplayer. It doesn't have to be some Grand live service game with season passes and a giant open world map with a Battle Royale mode.
