Bottom Line: It's the best new, isometric RPG to come out in years. Recommendation: While Pillars of Eternity is certainly banking on a nostalgic fan base, it's still an excellent RPG in its own right.
This game is now 93 on metacritic, tied with Bloodborne. And people were saying that it would take a lot before someone got that high score... and then PoE gets it 2 days after. I find that hilarious actually.
I also find it hilarious when console gamers say that PC doesn't have great exclusives.
Yes! Lol, look at the disagrees. The truth hurts, innit.
It's just because many of them don't really have any experience playing PC games, so they make silly assumptions. Anyway, I'm glad to see that so many are loving Pillars of Eternity. I've been watching this game since the kickstarter. Nice to see such a warm critical reception. These guys have made some incredible RPGs.
The last great one was Divinity: Original Sin. The PC has killer exclusives too. Just typically not in the same genres.
It's also not a game that would cater to most gamers or even most RPG fans. It could be great in its own right, but it is ultimately an old-school experience that doesn't really have mass appeal. I personally hate games that are all about point and click and micromanaging units or characters. That's the difference between PC gamers and most other gamers. It's like separating people who like MMOs, starcraft and league of legends from people who like every other kind of game.
Love how PC noobs talking crap now. 1 good game and ohh master race is back. Wait i swear 2days ago pc noobs were screaming we want bloodborne lol grow up childs.
@neocores Spoken like someone who has absolutely no clue about the PC platform. "1 good game and ohh master race is back." You should go check metacritic because no other system has had as many good exclusives released this year so far as PC, just like how it took the exclusives crown last year by far. PC gaming isn't back because it never went anywhere in the first place. It's still the best place to play with the best games library by 10000x. "Wait i swear 2days ago pc noobs were screaming we want bloodborne lol grow up childs." I dare you to go type in "console petitions" into google and see the never ending list of console gamers begging for our amazing exclusives. Or even easier just go to any PC game article and see the nonstop begging first hand from console players. You should grow up first before telling other people too.

The two best RPGs in recent memory, Divinity Original Sin and this PoE are on the PC.
a RPG made by Obsidian! that's all I need to know when I bought the game
Eek! I have been awaiting this game for so awhile. Got to play the beta at a relatives (and just finished playing a few hours) and it felt like we were playing Boulder's Gate, Icewindale, or Planescape: Torment for the first time again Writing is great in a way that (if you like to read) it will put any of the fanciful works of voice acting, facial expressions, and body language of these modern games to shame. Combat is like those old Infinity Engine games, but with all the fat that weighed it down trimmed off and no "trap builds" as every stat is useful (yes, an Int based Barbarian is useful!). It really goes to show just why Obsidian has such a good rep with RPGs. All of it is just pure magic.
Been waiting two years for this game. I'm overjoyed to see it getting the scores its getting, since Baldurs Gate 2 is my favourite game of all time, and this team deserve nothing less than unending praise for what they've managed to do here.
