Evolve has been out for just over a month now, has received relatively good reviews, and – according to Take-Two president Karl Slatoff – has sold pretty well, too. He did not give specific numbers, though, and that has made people question whether or not as many people picked it up as the publisher may have hoped.
In it’s first week, Evolve sold 300,000 physical copies according to analyst Doug Creutz of Cowen and Company. That isn’t bad for a new property, but it’s still a little low. It is projected to sell 1.5 million total copies, which is also a little soft compared to gaming’s biggest franchises.
Since it’s release, Evolve has been the topic of conversation throughout the comments sections of hundreds of YouTube videos, blogs, and media sites, all talking about whether or not the game is a scam. To explain, they mean whether or not the way in which 2K is handling their DLC model is appropriate for what it gets you and how much it costs.
