Keep em' comin' Sony

I'd love to Play my music off my Hard-Drive, while streaming content from my home computer as a freind notification pops up, before closing my native Twich application and starting up an emulated PS1 classic.

I will use PlayStation Music when that comes out but of course playing media off the hard drive would be nice. I like PLEX 10x more than the DLNA features PS3 had. Twitch app.. I think the current way to view Twitch streams is fine but I guess a app wouldn't hurt. Now a PS1 emulator is something we really need. Hopefully it's better and has more graphics features than the one on PS3. If you made games widescreen they wouldn't even center on the screen correctly and most of the time they still have black borders and look horrible. The PS1 emulator on PC can do all these things almost perfect but it has lots of bugs and I don't own the discs of most of my favorite PS1 games.

UKmilitia3313d ago

i went to set plex up and it wanted £3.99 a month to stream stuff from my network to ps4

XBLSkull3312d ago

I wish my Xbox would let me do the controller customization, that feature rocks. Not really interested in all the other stuff, still no DLNA sucks. PLEX would be great if it was free, but it isn't. It's something that is worth $20 not the $150+ they want for a lifetime subscription. Get it together Sony, almost 18 months and counting waiting for this basic functionality.

fr0sty3312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

Joining a friend's game from the home screen rocks too, it'll definitely cut down on the number of steps needed to jump into a game with a friend.

I agree on DLNA and media playback. I used to use my PS3 to play all of my promotional videos that I could conveniently store on its hard drive and take with me to conventions. I no longer can play any video clips at all on my PS4 unless it is streaming media or a blu-ray disc. That sucks. Thankfully, as the owner of a video production company I can just author all that stuff onto a blu-ray now, but it still sucks.

Sony nailed the gaming end, and I'm all for new gaming features as some of these are really cool, but I'm ready to start expanding the multimedia properties as well. I think the next major update should focus mostly on that.

deadpoolio3163312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

The only people worried about DNLA are the pirates..God forbid they have to watch the movies they steal on their PC...Obviously studios are getting wise since more are starting to use Cinivida making it impossible for the consoles to play the movie, without streaming it using DNLA...

fr0sty3312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

@deadpoolio
God forbid anybody want to be able to pull up an entire archive of family movies, pictures, and their entire music collection from their living room no matter which PC in the house the data is stored on... No, only pirates would have any interest in that sort of thing.

God forbid me, as the owner of a multimedia production company, would ever want to stream media that showcases my work to clients who are in the viewing room no matter what PC in the building that media was stored on. No, I'd only want it for piracy.

God forbid anybody back up their legally bought movie collection on their PC. No, just pirates.

@clericbeast

What are these three AAA rated games on ps4? the Xbox One has Sunset Overdrive, FH2 and Ori which i believe all score around the same as Resogun and now helldivers.

WitWolfy3313d ago

I just jizzed a little in my pants by picturing all those features...

Apollosupreme3312d ago

Hey, don't be ashamed.

You're sonysexual, be proud and strong. You're brave to come out like this. A fine example to all. Congrats.

Eonjay3313d ago

Lets push for PS1 classic native support. There is no reason why they should be selling us Final Fantasy 7 PC port when most of us have the PS1 classic purchased already. DNLA is definitely coming so its time to work on other things, namely decent backwards compatibility with PS1+PS2 games (not just PSNow) and friend notifications.

_-EDMIX-_3312d ago

Who's "they"? Sony doesn't own Square...they have stock in them...they don't own them. That decision is up to Square.

Also...I'm sorry but I'd rather not pay MORE for a PS4 JUST to have BC on other systems...I already OWN!

If you own those games...then clearly you've also owned the system....merely keep or rebuy the system. Its no a companies job to keep giving a free system every damn gen.

I'd rather they got a new CPU infrastructure, they waste time just upgrading the dated older one JUST to have BC.

Neither have BC based on the updated infrastructure.

I'd rather they not waste time with such a thing post launch.

But hey, maybe later we will likely see a lot of those games ported over to PS4 any, just like many publishers last gen ported over many ips on PSN and XBL.

Mind you...I have a huge PS1 and PS2 library of games and I really could care less about PS3 later on or PS4 from day 1 not having BC.

...and I own a 60GB BC PS3 and still don't care.

Aghashie3312d ago

@edmix

I had to disagree. I own 40 plus PSOne games on disc format and I no longer have a PSOne system to play them. I can get another, sure. But why to spend the cash when I just could play them on my PS4? So yes, I want BC on my gaming systems. No point getting them again on the store in digital. I already own then, dammit.

CorndogBurglar3313d ago

Still no notification when a friend logs on? Thats all i really want....

They can tell us when a friend joins some other party but they can't tell us when a friend logs on? Come on.

medman3313d ago

Is it really that difficult for you to hit the psbutton and see which friends are online or not? Are you that lazy? Good grief....not to mention many games let you see who's online playing the particular game you're playing at the moment, so what's your complaint really about??

EinRobot3313d ago

Well @ medman, I also would like a notification when a friend logs on. When I see a friend log on while I am watching Netflix I can instantly know its time to do a heist or whatnot. Otherwise I would have to keep interrupting my movie to hit the PS button and check. So simmer down with the venom just because you in your obvious infinite wisdom do not see a valid reason, it might just mean you don't see something that is clearly there.

deadpoolio3163313d ago

Did it ever occur to you that IF your friends wanted to talk to you they would send you a message....They notice your online when they get on, clearly if you don't hear from them they don't want to chat...

EinRobot3312d ago

@deadpoolio Its funny that you think you know what my friends are like. Based on what exactly?

FamilyGuy3312d ago

What's stopping you from sending friends a message that reads "Hit me up if I'm online when you sign in."? or something like that?

Online prompts would be nice, as long as there's a way to categorize exactly which friends the notification pops up for. In the mean time a simple message sent to all your gta friends would work.

Rattlehead203312d ago

Why should we have to wait for people to message us when we're online, or expect them to check right away?

It's a feature that we had last gen and to leave it out and refuse to put it back is ludicrous.

sereal_killer3313d ago

I agree, i can wait for DLNA and if we had the option in the mean time to atleast play movies from USB.

I'm also fine playing music from a USB in the meantime and spotify is on the way so i think they wll push that (also had a free version).

But i would love a native twich app or atleast a new section on the ps4 that shows all twitch streams that are not being streamed from a ps4.

Muzikguy3312d ago (Edited 3312d ago )

I don't know of I like that trophy screenshot thing. I hope we can turn that off or it automatically deletes with the next trophy received. Great update though! I would still like some kind of media player with visualizers, DLNA, folders, and friend notifications but this is still good! :)

thereapersson3312d ago

Really???? Suspend / resume is only a game-specific feature and not a system feature?

Shazz3313d ago

Excellent :) all I'm hoping for now is friend notifications, games folders and dlna

nucky643313d ago

those would be welcome. I'd still like to see sony add Bluetooth support so their ps3 headsets would work on ps4.

bouzebbal3313d ago

talk about a surprise! Great stuff

spacedelete3313d ago

PS1 and PS2 emulation needed. i'd even pay for it if i have to.

G20WLY3313d ago

PS Now, or play on your PS1/PS2. 'Need' is the wrong word. You mean 'want'. :)

DragoonsScaleLegends3313d ago

PS Now = lower than normal quality and high latency
PS1 console = 144p quality
PS2 console w/ component cables = 240p quality
PS3 console = HD PS1/PS2 emulation but lacks any graphics options or upgrades and lacks 98% of PS2 library unless you have a original PS3.
PS4 console = Zero PS1 emulation and PS2 emulation and it probably couldn't even emulate the few PS2 game on the PS Store that even slim PS3s can emulate.
PC = Amazing PS1/PS2 emulation but lots of bugs which makes it suck for certain games.

By the way I 'need' PS1/PS2 emulation on PS4 too. :)

G20WLY3313d ago

^lol, no you don't, you 'want' it. And you also want a better internet connection from the sounds of things. ;)

WitWolfy3313d ago

PS NOW isnt even available in my country... But thanks for reminding me.

pivotplease3313d ago (Edited 3313d ago )

No I agree. Sony is certainly capable of getting PSone classics on the PS4. These should be a priority. They should also all be cross-buy. People shouldn't pay twice for the exact same product. All they have to do is finish that emulation software they've been working on. I'm not really holding my breath for PS2 games though unless it ends up being like the scant selection we see on PS3.

G20WLY3313d ago (Edited 3313d ago )

^I agree with everything you've said, Pivot, except that it should be a priority. New games should be a priority, in my opinion. New features come second. Then emulation of PS1 and remasters.

PS1 emulation should have been there at launch, IMO. Since it wasn't, I'd rather they worked on other things first and kept it ticking along nicely in the background.

They'll announce the feature during a game drought or to gain the upper hand when the competition does something that grabs the spotlight. That's just how it works, whether we like it or not.
