Why don't the devs release the game optimized for any given platform in the first place, we have to wait for patches to arive one month post launch, when the majority would have finished the game.

DarkLordMalik3740d ago

Sadly they are too busy rushing the game to fit in their fiscal year or holidays. They barely care about the quality.

Jughead34163740d ago

This is why I respect developers like Naughty Dog who actually does care about the quality of their games. Their name means something to them. They are widely considered to be the best in the business, not just because they make beautiful games, but also because of the quality they're known for.

kraenk123740d ago

I generally agree....I don't think we can blame Techland for anything on Dying Light though.

GameNameFame3740d ago

PS4 was already a better version with higher res, better frame, no tears, better texture according to Digital Foundry.
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

I really do not see those gaps disappearing. It seems to be only increasing. Even with those all those "power and API upgrades" on X1.

LamerTamer3740d ago

Which is why these consoles are useless without an internet connection or a slow one. So much for not being always online. The problem is also even if you are online you can't backup these patches. So if you need to uninstall for space and then want to play again at a later date you need to re-download gigs of patches AGAIN even though you already did it at one time which is IDIOTIC (and when the patches are no longer online you are stuck with a busted game forever)!

deadpoolio3163740d ago

Really....Cause no only was Dying light not rushed out it was delayed a couple of different times.....And launched in JAN 2015

It has more to do with Dying light was originally being developed for PS3/360/PS4/XB1/PC...So it was always going to be gimped being on last gen consoles...

Cancelling the PS3/360 versions was NEVER going to do anything for the PS4/Xb1 versions, unless they scrapped the game and started over...

Until the cross gen stuff goes away everything is going to look worse on current gen consoles...On top of the fact that this was also made by an almost less than mediocre developer, whose games already kinda look like ass Dead Island and DI: Riptide looked like crap

Meltic3740d ago

no beacuse they delayed the game twice. They had time to rush and optimize the game.... this is just laziness of a polish Company.

UKmilitia3740d ago

the game was awesome from day one.
dont even know why people are moaning

dantesparda3740d ago

Why are you people complaining about them actually fixing the AF and making the LOD a tab bit better? When they are the only ones so far to actually fix the AF issue. Nobody else has. So we should be praising them not giving them sh't. The PS4 should not even be having a AF issue, yet game after game, after game has had the problem now. We need to speak up and hold these devs feet to the fire and make sure they at least use 8x AF.

Here are some pics for those that don't know
http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

And one of the worst cases I've seen is DMC.

Crueltylizer3740d ago

Its usually not the developers, but the publishers that rushes titles out the door even if the developers don't think the game is ready.

Its become even worse since consoles went online and patches where easy to deploy.

That way the developers could, with time, get to the point they thought the game should be at.

Case in point they are still working on the graphics on the console version of Dying Light.

If you are to blame someone blame Warnerbros.

And you cannot compare Uncharted with Dying light. Uncharted is a well known exclusive franchise, which means they have a lot more wiggle room with Sony to delay the game.

NovusTerminus3740d ago

In Dying Lights defence, it was not broken at release. They are just improving it, but it was already well functioning and pretty game.

dRanzer3740d ago

The coop was broken on the ps4

vishmarx3740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

the ps4 version was missing af.
its not exactly broken, but adding af isnt an improvement. its a fix for a problem thats been known for over a month .other than that co op crashed the game frequently and some trophies were bugged.also you couldn't level up to max.

hello123740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

vishmarx@ Whoever wrote this took those pictures from Neogaf and they were put on gaf by some random poster

How does random screenshots suddenly become confirmation the PS4 graphics have improved? Those screenshots could be images got from anywhere.

Dying light devs improved AF i have not seen confirmation of that from techland! Neogaf has a thread up for weeks now and not one person with insider knowledge has come forward to explain the lack of AF on PS4.

Until we hear something back the problem is ongoing. Neogaf are very bad at investigating they are claim Af is only missing with multiplats i went and looked at the DF tech review of the the order 1886 and they said AF was missing also.

vishmarx3740d ago

@knws

I know it because I have the game.
and I can see the af that was missing earlier

ziggurcat3740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

@KNWS

http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4...

"One of the patch notes mentions "improvements in world and character art." I'm totally unsure, but the locations feel more complete and better dressed with props. There seem to more lighting sources, or at least the existing ones have been tweaked to better showcase the environments"

there you go.

N83740d ago

Yeah I'm surprised to see what some people are saying in here. I didn't have a problem with dying light.

GarrusVakarian3740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

@KNWS

Jesus Christ, your comment is just embarrassing. You have no idea what you're talking about and the denial seeping out of you is obvious from a mile away.

Both LoD and AF have been improved on the PS4 version of Dying Light. Deal with it. There have been numerous before and after shots from people on GAF who own the PS4 version proving it. But it's not surprising that you're on here doubting the source of those pictures when everyone else knows they were just posted by regular people who own the game. I think if these graphical improvements were coming to the X1 version you'd accept them no questions asked. Lol.

And no, The Order is not "missing" AF, it has AF, it's just not 16x. It has 4x AF at least. Get your facts straight before commenting.

And I think it's pretty sad how you lurk GAF. You don't own a PS4, you don't like Sony, you don't like Sony fans, you don't like Sony games...yet you lurk one of the most Sony-friendly sites on the internet, in Sony/PS4 threads, spend so much time researching and and looking into PS4 games and their issues, and comment in almost every Sony/PS4 articles that are posted here on N4G. You have serious issues, man. What the hell is wrong with you? You must be pretty damn disappointed in your X1. You may as well just buy a PS4, at least then all of your PS4-centric internet habits will make sense. Lmao.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

"We've made a great number of improvements to the game's performance, the gameplay balance, online functions, VISUAL FIDELITY, and more"

But yeah...you stay in denial about the PS4 version being improved even further over the X1 version. Almost a year and a half after launch and you're still the most delusional guy on this site. You must be having a great generation. Lol.

Revolver_X_3740d ago

Online crashes are new to me. While my friend dropped occasionally, he does have shotty internet. I didn't notice any crashes or bugs in the online during my 50 logged hours. Although the trophy bugs are very annoying.

samchez773740d ago

The PC version was horrendously broken. especially for those with an AMD CPU. Still not fully fixed yet.....and linux users had to wait weeks to even be able to play it about 15fps. It was the biggest mess in a long time for PC.

WitWolfy3740d ago

Too bad the campaign is next to non existent.

PygmelionHunter3740d ago

Because we keep buying those incomplete games. The only mistake I made last year was getting Dragon Age Inquisition at launch. Had to wait for a couple of patches to be able to get past a bug in the game, and still the game has plenty of bugs.

This is why I usually wait around a year to buy multiplatform games. First party games is "usually" where it's at. Retro Studios and Naughty Dog are good examples of what a developer should aim to be. Atlus is also well known for quality games.

TardcoreGamer3740d ago

You mentioned ND. I remember Uncharted 3 had a major issue with aiming which wasn't fixed til a little while after launch. By then most people who played at launch had completed the story.

PygmelionHunter3740d ago

@TardcoreGamer

I don't remember that. Don't remember much about U3 as it was my least favorite of the franchise.

Were the aiming problems related to the online mode? I always despised how they spent development time on a tacked on multiplayer mode that wasn't even that good to begin with.

Palitera3740d ago

@TardcoreGamer
There was a different mechanic for aiming in the beginning. One I hated, but definitely not a bug. It was a choice and soon they added the option to use "classic" aiming speeds and accelerations.

x_RadicalAura_x3740d ago

Driveclub and Halo MCC would beg to differ, genius.

UltraNova3740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

Uncharted's MP tacked on?

Hahahaha thanks for the laugh! Look dude, I almost hate MP games but Unch's MP was a blast and a tad different than your run of the mill shooter MP modes.

Even then the words 'Naughty Dog' and 'tacked on' dont go together and you should have know as much by now.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3740d ago

This is awesome. It was already much better than the xbone version.

_-EDMIX-_3740d ago

Well its because optimization happens over time. It something that is difficutly to just do day 1, as to way any OS you install will keep getting patched to be better and better.

Imagine if the game is as good as they can make it, then released.

It can ALWAYS be better, fixes can always happen and I for one actually feel its not really worth the wait.

Consider we got a patch last year for Red Dead Redemption...

I feel its wrong if the game is unplayable, but this is really not the case.

Anything can always become better and fixes can always happen even years after release.

Look at TF2, HL, portal etc. On PC, Valve has fixed and updated sooooo many things.

Doesn't mean its broken at launch, doesn't mean its perfect either.

No game can actually launch "perfect" as fixes happen over the course of years.

This patch I don't feel is a bad thing as they might have not known they can get a little more out of the PS4 without sacrificing quality.

MEGANE3740d ago

At least they care! Some othe developers wont even bother

Bill_Willson_CIA3740d ago

"Why don't the devs release the game optimized for any given platform in the first place..."

Because portability and efficiency are kind of opposite poles.

If you make your code too efficient for a specific machine,it will run better but it will be a hell to port for different machines.

If you make your code too portable,it is easy to port for different machines, but it runs like shit everywhere.

Third parties usually release multiplatforms games, which means portability is king.

Of course,in the ideal world, where devs do care about doing a good job, they would find a soft spot between portability and efficiency. That is not the case of most of them though...

Sirlancealot3740d ago

I said this is what's killing gaming; this post patch/dlc. It makes better business sense for devs to release patches and get their games out early as possible. it lessens the dev cost and patching a game after its release is a cheaper for them. But for us gamers we end up with these horrible performing games which are not complete so devs wait for our feedback. Then make tweeks to remove or add features. I hate it.

mochachino3740d ago

I'm not complaining about patches that improve graphics.

samchez773740d ago

Pressure from publisher's to meet deadlines also has a lot to do with it. Day One patches also annoys the sh*t out of pirates too.

Good game.........but teh real horror story is the PC version.

starchild3740d ago

Can't disagree with that. Still, better graphics is always nice.

holin43740d ago

i think pre-ordering has a lot to do, when there are a lot of people that already bought the game... they have to give them what they "promised" (they dont cause they give us an unfinished game)

ZombieKiller3740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

@Moegooner:

Why don't the devs release the game optimized for any given platform in the first place?

Because everyone has to have it right now.

The birth of the Shark Card....

Christopher3740d ago

Whoa whoa whoa whoa! Whoa!

Where do you get off telling a major group of developers that they should do their job? Huh? Are you a developer? Do you know how hard it is to push out an unfinished game?

I didn't think so!

Until you develop a game yourself, don't try acting like you know how a game should be released.

/s <--- if you didn't know this, I worry for you

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

Same on X1 as well after "Hard Mode" update. It looks like the Texture detail/draw distance is better when playing after the update.

Volkama3740d ago

Why is that so hard to believe? Why would Techland work on improving the PC and PS4 versions, but just leave the Xbox version untouched?

I don't have the Xbox version, but it seems reasonable to think it probably received similar efforts to optimise the game after it launched.

MRMagoo1233740d ago

@volkama

Even if there was a slight rumour that it may have upgraded graphics wise there would be 40 articles by now claiming the "tides had changed" so I have no reason to believe it, along with the fact the manager at my local EB games that I know very well has told me he cant see any difference in the game besides the documented changes to the xbone version, his colleague who I might add is a hardcore xbox fan has also confirmed he cant see any changes.

curtis923740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

@Volkama, comparison shots between ps4 & xb1 with dying light were too identical if you ask me. This tells me they went back in and made the ps4 version perform more in line with what it's capable of, which would naturally leave the xb1 version inferior. I realize that sounds very fanboyish to say, but but we saw it last gen with how 360 games 99.9% of the time ran and looked better than ps3. Same this gen, just flipped.

theXtReMe13740d ago (Edited 3740d ago )

Any developer that would go back months after release and make these adjustments, knowing that 90% of the people playing probably won't even notice, is a developer that actually cares about the quality of their game. Totally amazing in this day and age, given that most developers would just move on to the next project and not give a second thought to making adjustments, especially visually, on the game they released months before.

We need more developers like Techland.

FullmetalRoyale3740d ago

Well said. I took a break when my friend and I got to the second area, having already sunk in about thirty hours.
I'm sure we will notice the difference as soon as we go back to playing it.

Randostar3740d ago

Bubble for you sir.
People are comparing techland to naughty dog for some strange reason. Naughty Dog games run perfectly on PS because thats all they are on. The fact of the matter is that the devs actually spent time making this game better after it was released, How many multi plat games get better graphics with updates? Techland is a great dev, and it really shows in Dying light.

Looking Back At The $386,000 Dying Light 'My Apocalypse Edition', 10 Years Later

It has been more than ten years since Dying Light was released, but what happened to the $386,000 'My Apocalypse Edition' of the game?

jznrpg113d ago

Nobody bought it for an obvious reason.

Gamingsince1981113d ago

Wtf did this edition come with ? A real helicopter and a real zombie virus ?

Vithar113d ago

For one lucky person willing to spend $386,000, the My Apocalypse Edition of Dying Light promised a staggering collection. It included the buyer’s face in the game, a human-sized ‘Volatile’ statue, and parkour lessons with a freerunning team. It also came with night vision goggles, an all-expenses paid round trip to Techland’s offices, and four signed copies of the game. Oh, and it also came with a custom-built, ‘zombie-proof’ survival shelter.

LOL but it was a stunt from the team:
‘It was a PR stunt and got a lot of media attention for its wild and over-the-top nature, it was designed to generate buzz around the game’s release. It did a great job of getting the game noticed, though! But nobody purchased it – thankfully, I guess!’

It got a lot of shit from fans more not being as scary at night on release. I was in that boat. But once I gave it a fair shot I really loved it. The movement was so much more expressive to me. I enjoyed the story too.... for the most part. Was my game of the year when it came out. With all the updates for darker nights and all that, it's even better. I feel almost exactly the same about stalker 2 right now. The erojank games are scratching my itch.
