More Games Should Focus On Being Fun

Harjit found that games tend to be much more serious and dramatic nowadays. It can give us more serious and cinematic experiences. But is that a good thing?

I couldn't agree more. Back in the days when many of us got into gaming, the games weren't beautiful to look at, but they were addictingly fun.

Now a small niche of gamers is trying to ruin that by requiring shiny realistic graphics, 1080p/60fps over everything else as the priority.

AudioEppa3475d ago

Gaming would be dead or seriously boring right now if it was only like back In the day..

This industry has something for everybody, people appreciate different things, but we love same medium that is video games. Every artform starts from somewhere, but that doesn't mean it should be locked that way forever, everything has to evolve.

Saijahn3475d ago

there's nothing wrong with evolution if it's about variety rather than a set standard. Those that believe 1080p/60fps is what makes a good game pretty much rule out every game that doesn't meet that standard now, even though that's quickly losing out to 4k.

let devs evolve how they see fit for their project, and don't knock them for their choices.

AudioEppa3475d ago

I'll enjoy whatever I want, others are free to do the same.

Get over yourself.

HarjKS3471d ago

What I meant by this article, was not to stipulate an idea that players should only be tailored to games for fun. It is that games should be enjoyable. I said that games should achieve a balance between having dramatic themes - essentially a good story (if it needs to do so, for example games like Heavy Rain would commonly have dramatic themes but games like Sunset Overdrive or Saints Row IV would not), and enjoyable gameplay (enjoyable does not mean fun, it just means that the person playing the game is enjoying the experience and actually wants to play said game).

This article isn't here to say "You should only enjoy these games," it's to say "These games should be more enjoyable."

I wish they were able to make the order 1886 sequel because I know the game would have been amazing like the first game but a lot better

VenomUK45d ago

Herman Hulst should build a bridge and hire Ru Weerasuriya. Imagine that wonderful game setting but with a great gameplay sequel!

Cacabunga44d ago

One of my biggest PS4 memories. Now that RAD is closed maybe they can recreate a studio and get fund from sony to develop this long awaited sequel

OtterX44d ago

Sold their souls to the Lizard King. :\

Friendlygamer45d ago

The order kinda reminds me of evil west but less interesting

Cacabunga44d ago

Like your post.. totally ininteresting when the title is about sequel we know nothing about..
Why embarass yourself like this?

Nooderus44d ago

Lul you're embarrassing. Uninteresting *

Currently playing through this for the first time. Really enjoying it, it’s staggering to think this was a pretty early PS4 game. It’s on par or even better than some PS5 games

Fluke_Skywalker45d ago

Visually yes indeed. Sadly it barely managed 30fps which ruined it for many. If they remastered it for PS5 and PC it would be amazing.

Flewid63845d ago

Too many universally praised 30fps games that broke sales records launched since The Order for that to be true.

jwillj2k445d ago (Edited 45d ago )

You say this, but you’re playing 30 FPS on some PS5 games today so your point is null and void.

1nsomniac44d ago

Don’t know how it released but playing it for the first time now on ps5 there is no framerate issues. It’s stable and its slower pace makes 30fps acceptable. It would obviously be awesome at 60fps though.

Einhander197144d ago

Oh go away with your fps obsession, that's why the industry sucks. Pandering to the likes of you.

That's all it really needed because the setting, the acting, the story was consistent, it was great. There was never a moment in the game where it seemed something was out of place. Way too many studios shut down and games failing due to bs reviews, and of course everyone has to jump in on the hate wagon. They should've stayed indie, FB was goin to ruin em and they did. Can't believe SONY tossed them aside as if they hadn't brought out bangers during the PSP era smh.

spiderman 2 $40 from $70 so it's priced right now as a expansion pack like MM.,

andy8555d ago

Pretty decent expansion pack then saying i got 30-40 hours out if it.

just_looken55d ago

I can get 30hours out of a job outside does not mean it was good.

But i know no matter what i post or prove people love there nerfed spiderman or playing as a blind person for 5 hours then mary jane shehulk for another 12hours.

I am so glad today's "gamer" was not around for the ps3/360 era these new gamers are way to easy to please and have killed gaming.

andy8555d ago

It was good though. Are you actually saying it wasn't a good game? And blind? The person you play as was deaf and it was 10 mins not 5 hours. Doesn't seem like you've even played it by that comment. And MJ was...30 mins at most? Not sure how you get 40 mins into 17 hours exactly

CobraKai55d ago

@just_looken

I’ve been playing since the Sega Master System. I love Spiderman 2. There’s too much going for it to be a simple expansion pack. I felt Miles Morales could fall into the expansion pack range.

If you didn’t like it, it’s fine. That’s what’s great about opinions, there are no wrong ones, just different ones.

StormSnooper54d ago

You guys have to understand, they don’t have anything even close to it on his preferred system. There is a whole psychology behind his comment.

lol I was in the ps3/360 era and spider man 2 would of been a massive hit still.

Please don’t try to represent us gamers from that time. You are not a good example, always complaining and being negative lol.

CobraKai55d ago

@just
I mean, it’s New York. You can’t exactly change the map.

It sounds like you’re hard to please vs gamers being easy to please. You mentioned great games. Games whose sequels had very similar gameplay with each other with very minimal changes or upgrades.

Im with pwnmaster. Don’t speak for us. It sounds like probably only started gaming from PS360 era.

Rebel_Scum55d ago

Peter Parker lives in New York, where else do you expect the map to be?

Using the same map/location is not a problem.

On topic: In my region the base game is $80. Still not low enough for me to dive in. Not that Im in a rush. Havent even finished the 1st one’s dlc yet.

just_looken55d ago

The map still has asset's buildings the the first game its like madden yeah same stadium but can you change that madden 14 logo?

Not to mention they never added shield basses basically unique interiors you can explore off missions or add in jersey.

pwnmaster300055d ago

Sony pony??
Are you a child? Lmao

Just stop man. It’s embarrassing.
We can like games and not be a fanboy.
Gaming shouldn’t be taken this serious. Relax lol

just_looken55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

"lol I was in the ps3/360 era and spider man 2 would of been a massive hit still.

Please don’t try to represent us gamers from that time. You are not a good example, always complaining and being negative lol. "

You come at me calling me a bad example talking like this game is gods gift to us and on any sony article you defend them no matter what.

But now i am a child? what because i used logic again this site you throw facts at people they cry to the admins to get me off here again or play the victim card.

pwnmaster300055d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Lmao gods gift to us what. I said it would have been a massive hit not a perfect game. It’s a good game get over it.

And this is why I said what I said.
“ But i know no matter what i post or prove people love there nerfed spiderman or playing as a blind person for 5 hours then mary jane shehulk for another 12hours.”

And you’re still proving me right. God forbid people like a certain game.
And BS about me on every sony article defending them. I like games and praised every games I

“ But now i am a child? what because i used logic again this site you throw facts at people they cry to the admins to get me off here again or play the victim card.”

Your opinions are not facts and the fact you think they are is sad. Step off video games for awhile.

just_looken55d ago

Na its fine you go ahead belive 200 million dollars makes sense for 1 game when 80 created a trilogy on 360.

I live without blinders unlike others.

pwnmaster300055d ago (Edited 55d ago )

“I live without blinders unlike others.“
🤣😂🤣 thanks for the laugh. Have a good night brother. Fight that good fight your fighting.

He is a duplicate account. He changes names to get a new lease on life and people would respond to him. Sad indeed.

Definitely more than an expansion pack... the Miles Morales game from 2020 is that... ya silly goose

Sunset Overdrive PS5 Port Ruled Out In Favor of Wolverine

Insomniac has confirmed that a PS5 port for 2014's Sunset Overdrive is not currently planned due to a focus on Marvel's Wolverine.

:(
.
(well, they're likely also working with Nixxes for the inevitable Spider-Man 2 PC port as well)

Cacabunga89d ago

Wise decision, enough with old gen games already!!!

DarXyde89d ago

Sunset Overdrive was great...

I quite enjoyed the Demons' Souls remake too. I'm more or less begging for a Bloodborne sequel but would snap up a remake in a heartbeat.

Concertoine88d ago

I’d rather play an older unique game than a new Marvel game.

Im so blown out on Marvel, I can’t fathom how some people seem to have a bottomless appetite for it. A studio like Insomniac could do way better.

just_looken89d ago

Yep those poor devs are now a marvel sweat camp

This port and a quick pc patch to fix some bugs would have been a great idea i actualy forgot its not on ps5 you think it would have by now.

But hey they got like you said spiderman 2 pc port then spiderman 3 then spiderman collection with a wolverne/blade tossed in.

Amplitude88d ago

From everything we've seen, it's not like Insomniac is being forced to make Marvel games - it's clearly a good partnership that results in good games. They're still making Ratchet games anyway which is what really matters

Redemption-6488d ago

I have no idea why people like you keep making lies. Does it help you sleep at night? Where are you getting this information that they are either being forced or made into a Marvel camp? Sony approach Insomniac when they were independent to work on a Marvel IP and they picked Spider-Man. After the success of Spider-Man, it was Insomniac who pitched Wolverine to Sony/Marvel and was given the green light

-Foxtrot89d ago

This is new…it pretty much confirms it can happen eventually.

I thought Microsoft had publishing rights or something

Eonjay89d ago

Yes you are right. Microsoft allegedly has rights to the first game. Perhaps Microsoft wasted to sell it back to Sony in exchange for a port to Xbox Series. This would make the statement make more sense because I can't imagine that a port of this game even compares to the creation of Wolverine. So Microsoft probably requested a multiplat port.

gold_drake89d ago

yeh, the article says as much that MS does have publishing rights.

Profchaos89d ago

They do but Microsoft doesn't really care about the game they are considering Halo 1 for ps5 so this would be nothing

badz14989d ago

MS doesn't just have the publishing rights for SSoD, they also have publishing rights for the next 2 games in the franchise!

Zeke6888d ago

" The game was later pitched to various publishers, which rejected them because Insomniac demanded to retain ownership of the intellectual property. The project was later pitched to Microsoft Studios, which was eager to work with Insomniac. Microsoft allowed Insomniac to own the rights to the game"

Seems Insomniac own the rights after all...

badz14988d ago

@Zeke68

publishing rights is not the same as IP rights or ownership. for SSoD, Insomniac owns the IP, MS owns the publishing rights. just like Sony with Spider-man. Sony only owns the publishing rights to the movies and games but the IP is still owned by Marvel/Disney.

Zeke6888d ago

See my comment below. When Insomniac left M$ they let Microsoft keep their publishing rights for... drumroll... Xbox and PC.
If they want to release it on PS they can let Sony publish it.

“It is important to note that Xbox owns the publishing rights to Sunset Overdrive.

Therefore, a PS5 port would need to be approved by Microsoft.”

I said this eight days ago and got disagrees.

Fishy Fingers89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Most people dont read bro..

Had it been their IP through and through it would of been an easy release for them and its a fun game, probably would of already happened. The people saying no ones cares about Sunset Overdrive would be saying cant wait to play in 4K 60 if announced

NotoriousWhiz88d ago

"Most people dont read bro.."

Facts.

Zeke6888d ago (Edited 88d ago )

"Most people dont read bro..."

"The game was later pitched to various publishers, which rejected them because Insomniac demanded to retain ownership of the intellectual property. The project was later pitched to Microsoft Studios, which was eager to work with Insomniac. Microsoft allowed Insomniac to own the rights to the game. Sunset Overdrive was made for Microsoft's Xbox One console; it was released on the 20th anniversary of Insomniac, in 2014"

What I read is that Insomniac still own the rights to the game. Prove me wrong! ;)

Edit M$ owns publishing rights on Xbox, not Playstation as they never intended to release it on PS ever.

KwietStorm_BLM89d ago

We can forget about all of their iconic IPs. They're a Marvel studio now.
