Uncharted 4 delay paints a tough Christmas for PS4 this year

Dealspwn writes: So, Uncharted 4 has been pushed back to Spring 2016. As news goes for PS4 gamers, it's pretty damn heartbreaking. But as we've said time and again here at Dealspwn, delays aren't always a bad thing for a game. We've had enough of unfinished releases like AC: Unity and DriveClub, and are trying to be as patient as possible for the likes of Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher III, both of which have needed more time before the developers have been ready to unleash them. And major kudos to them for that and as much as it pains me to say it, Kudos to Naughty Dog too.

But with Uncharted 4 gone from the PS4's Holiday Season/Christmas line-up, it's hard not to think that staff at Microsoft and Square Enix are laughing their assess off. First up, let's talk about Tomb Raider. Lara's next outing, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is a timed Xbox One exclusive and was set to go head to head with Uncharted around Christmas (naturally, you'd buy both if you have both consoles).

E3 is still around the corner, Sony will have something up there sleeve for Christmas.

I can see it already, N4G is going be full of Sony doom & gloom and Microsoft have won Christmas articles very soon.

Neonridr1505d ago

strange, it will be like the complete opposite of how it normally is.. :P

Well at least now people will be more receptive to the idea that E3 will herald some options for 2015 releases eh? ;)

"I can see it already, N4G is going be full of Sony doom & gloom and Microsoft have won Christmas articles very soon."

Top be fair, all I read was how bad the distribution of exclusives on Xbox One was this year. With Screamride (not my cup of tea) and Ori already proving to be decent and excellent respectively, I see a very level playing field, if we are going to think of it all like that.

xbox_ps4fanboy1505d ago

No but it is one of the major 3 exclusives that were supposed to release this year. At the end of last year all I heard about was how the order, uncharted and bloodborne were gonna destroy xboxs lineup this yr. Now that the order was a bit of a let down and uc4 is delayed, the only big exclusive left is bloodborne (which should be great). Thats disappointing no matter how you spin it. Those are the system sellers.

PoSTedUP1505d ago

crap it was pushed back. w/e usually its for a good reason. ps4 doesnt need a system boost just yet anyway, MGS will be doing the trick. still sucks tho.

gatormatt801505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

The article does bring up an interesting point about Tomb Raider. TR and UC were expected to go head to head against each other this fall. Now TR has the holiday all to themselves. Obviously this is an unforseen circumstance, but if TR was also on PS4 this fall they could have really benefited from the UC delay.

Neonridr1505d ago

@gatormatt80 - yeah, but I am sure there are tons of PS4 users who will still get Tomb Raider when it releases in 2016.

Square just has to be sure not to release TR on PS4 anywhere near when UC4 releases.. lol

GiggMan1505d ago

People keep mentioning the holidays lol. Do you really think this holiday would have been different than last year or any other?

MS didn't sell tons of consoles last holiday due to exclusives. It was because of price drops and deals. If it wasn't for the new Kinectless SKU and then a price drop on that very SKU it would have not been a competition.

Don't forget that Sony still hasn't dropped the price of their console yet. That's one ace in the hole that MS can't stop with any line up.

AngelicIceDiamond1505d ago

We still need to wait till E3 I'm sure Sony will have something releasing during the game season of 2015.

There's no way Sony will give the holiday to MS or Nintendo for that matter.

Maybe a major AAA we don't know about? We don't know what Sony's doing all I'm saying they might have to wait and see what Sony's plans are.

XisThatKid1505d ago

As a PS4 owner lookin forward to this game esp since I know the multiplayer is going to be way better than 2 and 3 and bothw eream azing still play to this day.
I'm not worried I'll be waiting till 2016. Glad I already have something to look forward to already fro next year.

"Microsoft seriously discounted the Xbox One last year and it was bundle crazy here at Dealspwn over Christmas and the console made up some serious ground on the PS4. The deals have been pretty hot this year for both consoles so far, but are Microsoft set to take the lead after Christmas 2015? Sony's E3 performance this year could be a vital one if they want to stay ahead."

Haha, that did not take long at all, that train is never late. I'm sorry, but what ground did Microsoft made up? More importantly, who gave this writer the power to rewrite history? By VGCharts own numbers who continuously pads MS's sales figures, the PS4 is sitting 700,000 units ahead of the Xbox One in what is the Strongest market for the XBOX One.

Sony has Sold 20.5 million consoles so far without a price, or Uncharted, Or God of War, Or Gran Turismo, and this author believe that Uncharted being delayed 4-6 months is going to make or break the PS4? SMH.....

This is the reason why people keep on ridiculing a certain fanbase. In order to drive hits to websites, people ignore logic and instead create these unfathomable instances, where somehow, a perfect storm happens, and the FASTEST SELLING console in history of this gaming business stops selling because of ONE SINGLE GAME being delayed.

First it was Dual GPUs that would get things going for Xbox One. Then it was "Power of Cloud", then it was TitanFall, Then it was Dropping Kinect 2.0 and price cut. Then it was Halo MCC. And now once more, you're playing and making people clang on to false hope.

The PS4 is going to drop it's price this holiday season, and I predict that it will be sold out at a lot of places.
In September, Metal Gear Solid is going to move a ton of PS4 off store shelves in similar fashions to how Destiny did it, and helped the PS4 sell 500,000 units the week it released.

kstap331505d ago

He mentioned the bundles at dealspwn.

sinncross1505d ago

Considering we know next to nothing about the holiday period for any of the consoles atm, I think it is quite premature to say the PS4 is going to have a tough time.

LAWSON721505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

That's funny when people mention MS and E3 to solve their drought people saY the opposite.

Septic1505d ago

Agreed. It seems providence isn't without a sense of irony.

But its true. I don't get why people write E3 off.

xbox_ps4fanboy1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

And they're the only company that's actually released games within the year of e3 this gen (fh2 and hmcc)

Perfect example right below me. Dismissing ms and e3 even though, as I side, they're the only ones that have released major exclusives within 6 months of e3

You act like ps4 was stacked during the beginning of last year. As far as big releases go they had infamous and tlou while xbox had titanfall. Big difference.

die_fiend1505d ago

MS and E3? Those two don't go together well.

Remember Kinect? And then more Kinect? And then Set top box?

At least Sony will be showing games. Anyone who thinks PS4 is going to have a tough holiday season is mental. They've sold 20.2m units already! How many have MS sold? Ah that's right, they're too embarrassed to share!

Cupid_Viper_31505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

I don't see anything Ironic here Lawson72. E3 cannot go back in time and solve an issue that MS had the first 5 months prior to the event. The criticism that was leveled at MS was that they packed all their games for September-December, and had barely anything for the first 6 months.

How would E3 solve this issue?

It has been the same thing the year prior too. You got Titanfall in March, and waited until FH2 in October for another exclusive.

@ Xbox_PS4Fanboy

"You act like ps4 was stacked during the beginning of last year. As far as big releases go they had infamous and tlou while xbox had titanfall. Big difference."

First half of the year 2014 PS4 had:

inFamous - Second Son (2014-03-21)
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends (2014-03-25)
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (2014-04-14)
MLB 14: The Show (2014-05-06)
Bound by Flame (2014-05-09)
Le Tour de France 2014 (2014-06-20)
MotoGP 14 (2014-06-20)
The Last of Us: Remastered (2014-07-29)

Like you said....BIG DIFFERENCE....

Does the issue still exist? Is Ori the Blind Forest not enough?

Aside from Bloodborne, what is the big PS4 game that fills in any sort of perceived gap in the first 6 months of this year?

"MS and E3? Those two don't go together well.

Bro, deactivate your cryostasis chamber! This isn't 2011!

SilentNegotiator1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

It's ONE game being delayed by a couple months...

Neonridr1505d ago

@Silent - it's arguably Sony's BIGGEST game though.

Cupid_Viper_31505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

So what? GTA 5 which is arguably the biggest game in the console industry was delayed in 2013 but turned out fine.

The release window doesn't define the game, it's the other way around. The release window only serves to maximizes the sales of a franchise. But Uncharted should be great whether is sells 1 million, or several millions.

That sucks I was really looking forward to playing it in the fall. Alas welcome to the generation of delays, broken games and unwarranted hype.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1505d ago

Uncharted 4 was just a drop in the bucket for 2015, a very large drop, but still just a drop...

Disgaea 5
Dragon Quest Heroes
Gran Turismo 7 ?
Persona 5
Ratchet & Clank
The Forest
Killing Floor 2
Until Dawn (I suspect it will release in October)
Everybody's Gone To The Rapture

There will be plenty of games to keep people busy throughout the fall and the Christmas holiday.

The doom and gloom nonsense has no basis in reality.

AngelicIceDiamond1505d ago

Those games will keep people busy.

"The doom and gloom nonsense has no basis in reality."

Sure there's nothing to be doomed here but from what it looks like right now Sony might have another light gaming season.

I stated above Sony's not gonna just leave this years gaming season to the other two consoles they will have something this holiday.

Hopefully announced at E3.

But at the same time this is U4 Sony's biggest game missing the biggest season.

If Halo 5 got delayed the doom and gloom would just be too real on this site and that's guaranteed.

Why o why1505d ago

Not sure about a 2015 release for GT or Ratchet. .

Delays suck. lets see how sony cope with it.

Sheikh Yerbouti1504d ago

I thought Hellblade was multiplat and never heard GT7 was coming out this year...?

Still a great line-up, but it has nothing to compete with Tomb Raider like Uncharted, which would have undoubtedly overshadowed Tomb Raider.

You've got to figure that Sony has something in the bag.

Hell, I'll be the one to say it...

The Last Guardian. E3 reveal, November release.

Okay, sorry.

traumadisaster1505d ago

Then say it and get negged...hell

Blues Cowboy1505d ago

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Hate myself, but couldn't stop myself.

You'll come crawling back if it does happen though, and I'll pretend I seriously called it. :P

yarbie10001505d ago

All we heard about at the end of last year was how MS has no games this year and PS4 is stacked.

At the bare minimum XBO has Forza, Halo, and Tomb Raider

Blues Cowboy1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

Plus Crackdown and Scalebound, though I wouldn't be surprised if either or both of these end up delayed - perhaps to counter UC4.

Yetter1505d ago

and quantum break...though that will almost certainly be delayed until 2016

Manic20141505d ago

Crackdown and Scalebound not confirmed for this year but i think there is a chance of a 2015 release for either title.

Palitera1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

Basically another weak year for both consoles.

Promises, promises, delays and promises.

It is the end of the line nearing for AAA consoles.

lifeisgamesok1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

Scalebound and Crackdown were never confirmed for 2015 so they can not be delayed

So far it's Halo 5, Forza 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Quantum Break

@Dario_DC and Sony fans just ignore any other IP's that release

Ryse, Scalebound, Quantum Break, Ori, Screamride, Sunset Overdrive, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Max and the Curse of the Brotherhood, Crackdown 3

UnHoly_One1505d ago

There hasn't been so much as a single Screenshot of gameplay for Crackdown or for Scalebound.

I find it highly unlikely either of them is less than a year away.

Ori is one of the best games i've played in a long time

The Halo 5 beta was kick-ass

Talk of GoW coming and other possible announcements

Weak for 'Both' consoles isn't the term i'd use

Spotie1505d ago

How does one game being delayed factor into that claim at all?

Sheikh Yerbouti1504d ago

With big homie Phil Spencer at the helm, I think this is the gen for MS exclusives having both quality and quantity - like we're normally used to with PlayStation. Great time to own both for the upcoming holiday.

Not Uncharted.. I was looking forward to playing it this fall..

Where are all these delay articles coming from?

Xsilver1505d ago

not a delay if it never had release date

Blues Cowboy1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

It was originally announced for "2015." Not technically a date, but definitely a delay.

TheJacksonRGN1505d ago

It never had a concrete release date, but it had a 2015 release window. It is still a delay of sorts.

Xsilver1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

im pretty they meant see more in 2015 which we did but ok

JimmyHACK1505d ago

When you announce your game is coming out in 2015 then push it to 2016 that is called a........... Delay :)

" I was looking forward to playing it this fall.. "

You and me both, it was one of my main reasons for picking up a PS4 this year (though Bloodborne was reason #1).

"Where are all these delay articles coming from?"

The internet. And plenty of somewhat irate PS4 owners, I'm guessing.

Dirtnapstor1505d ago

ND released a statement. Check out the PS Blog.

Ricegum1505d ago

Haha the truth is PS4 sells just on multiplatform games anyway. Sony are always in a good spot, regardless of exclusives.
