From Cinelinx:
Dragon Ball Z games have made the jump to the next-generation with the release of Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse. While many have found the DBZ fighting games stale over the last few iterations, the developers tried to create an all new experience this time around with more reason to jump between battles, and the chance to develop your own character and story. Bandai gave me the chance to play through their new adventure to see if the additions are game changing enough for fans and newcomers.
We still don't know if Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is a thing, but if it is, here is what Josh hopes to see in the new game.
Why Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a big deal and whether it lives up to the hype. A few light, early-game spoilers.
Many video games feature a character creation system, but which ones are the best? We will try to narrow down the ten best character creation systems currently available.
APB had a pretty sweet character creator and that’s not mentioned. I agree with xenoverse and dragon’s dogma. The Bethesda games kinda suck in this regard imo.
Forza’s layering system is the best character creator out there. Everytime I go to place tattoos on some elf’s face I think about how much better Forza could do it.
My scouter is showing well under 9000!
I don't think its better than the Budokai series but I do think it is one of the best Dragon Ball games as far as consoles go. My only complaints are the server is kind of bad but they are fixing it and not really a fan of how you can spam ultimate attacks making online battles pretty unbalanced. Considering the last couple of DBZ games were awful, this game is quite refreshing and done right. And what the heck is 2.6/5? lmao...
That's a ridiculous score .. i do find the constant output of dbz title sad , and didnt like most released after the excellent dbz 2 and 3 on Snes , but this is obviously a much better than usual title in term of content , storytelling and combat
If there ever was a decent Dragon Ball game, than this isn't it.
Tenkaichi 2 and 3 were epic. It truly felt like you were fighting in the DBZ world.
They had every character you could think of, and all of the character's transformations which you could perform during the match, including every Saiyan that had a Great Ape form, all of Frieza's forms, etc. In Xenoverse, Saiyans have super saiyan forms you can use, and everyone else has Kaiyoken. And when you transform, you are constantly losing energy, so its basically just a limited time power up ability instead of actually transforming and staying in that form as long as you want.
The lock on and dash features were much more on target than in Xenoverse. You just double tapped dash and your character would fly straight at your enemy. In this one, you have to clumsily steer your character when they are dashing, which makes it very awkward.
Also, there is a severe lack in characters. I know character DLC packs will be released, but even then I doubt the roster will reach the numbers of Tenkaichi 3.
Xenoverse is good. But its no where near as good as Tenkaichi 2 and 3 were. I wish they would have taken the story and character creation from this one and just placed it on Tenkaichi 2 and 3's gameplay. That would have made the perfect DBZ game.
