Would Bloodborne sell just as many copies if it released for Xbox One? Are there distinct differences between the the PlayStation and Xbox crowds?
No. There are no "hardcore" games. Only "hardcore" gamers, all with their own personal preferences.
All system have what can be considered hard core games and it is a matter of opinion on what types of games are hardcore. Some people think FPS shooters are hard core, I think team FPS's based games can be hardcore, but I think death match is mindless and more casual. Some think RPG's are hardcore, I agree, much more use of the mind with leveling and puzzle solving, what weapons to use, RPGs are much more involving. Some think platformers are hardcore and making pin point accurate jumps and figuring out how to get to an item can be hardcore. As I look at it no one system is more hardcore than the other including PC. I have all of them and they all can be consider hardcore gaming systems.
What a crazy title...How would one game define a console that is supposed to be on the market for for the next 5-7 years? There are so many better categories one can use to make such claim, such as: Which console has more games. Which company owns the most gaming studios. Which console has the better specs. Which console sells the most games. Etc I think the list above goes a long way in showing which company is more dedicated to gaming, and is helping to push the industry forward more so than its competitors. If you base it on more tangible things, you can actually have a healthy discussion on the topic. Do I believe that based on the points I've listed above that PS4 is more "hardcore"? Yes, I do. But is this article's title flamebait? Yes it is.
No, it's the better console overall.
I've at least found in the shooter space that hardcore is definitely on Xbox. Switch over and play the same FPS title on PlayStation and watch your stats improve tenfold.
Where u been skull? Haven't heard your nonsense in a while. Question ...is your psn name "xboxskull"?...becau se i dont think you own a ps4 to even make your assumption about the hardcore fps skill level on psn vs xbox.
Well, I certainly agree with the philosophy, it's not entirely true. When you compare a game like Dark Souls to something like Candy Crush. Of course Dark Souls is hardcore and the other is casual. However, just because something like Bloodborne is coming out on PS4, doesn't make the console itself 'hardcore'. It just means the developers simply wanted to put their game on that particular platform. All consoles will have their share of 'hardcore' games. Xbox with Halo 5 and Gears, PlayStation with Bloodborne and Uncharted 4, Wii U with Smash Bros and Xenoblade X. Just depends on what you can afford and which exclusives you lean toward liking.
Exactly. I have played so many different types of games from CoD to Battlefield, The Witcher, God of War, etc. I always play on the hardest difficulties. I have also played FF14, DCUO and WoW. There are hardcore gamers everywhere that either play alot, immersion themselves in Industry knowledge, or are just damn good. I know gamers that play Fire Emblem and Persona on handhelds. I've played both Soul's games and got all the achievements. So, yeah, while some games may be linear or very easy, many will have their own hardcore community that live and breathe that game. Bloodborne will be one of them, but so will Neverwinter. Even Blind Ori will have its kings.
"There are no 'hardcore' games." I definitely disagree with that, but I also don't think one game makes a console "hardcore".
Yes. PS4 = Hardcore games XONE and Wii U = Casual games
@Players Didn't know Star Fox, Zelda Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly World and Quantum Break, Halo 5, Forza 6, Fable Legends are casual games. I'm pretty sure you don't know the difference between casual and hardcore.
I think too often I see references to harcore vs casual gamers while the majority are in between and more or less casual at times depending on personal changing lives IMO Also I think Bloodborne will be more popular and interest more gamers than the previous fromSoftware games in part because of marketing and media coverage.
What is this nonsense? Lol
Can't believe it, but I agree. This is nonsense.
Oh I don't know. 1) The console that was a place for games first and foremost is likely a more hardcore console than one that was a multimedia system first and gaming console second. 2) The console that has a greater diversity of games, more online multiplayer games, more choices for gaming, more freedom, is more hardcore than a console with less to play. 3) The console where the gamers don't judge a game based on its budget to decide whether they think it's a worthwhile experience or not is the more hardcore place to play. Oh... and Bloodborne will be the first essential next-gen game after Super Mario 3D World and Bayonetta 2, and so happens to be a really tough game that only hardcore gamers will see through and enjoy. The article is not nonsense. PlayStation gamers have consistently been more open to different and unique kinds of games that only now Microsoft seem to be embracing a little bit, with the Xbox crowd only showing lukewarm support for such experiences. The reason so many people are hyped for Bloodborne is because of its links to Demon's Souls and the glory born out of the relationship between Miyazaki and Japan Studio. Bloodborne would not do as well on Xbone as on PS4.
PS4 it's leading by a large margin this generation, therefore we will have a wide variety of games for the console, including more hardcore experiences like JRPGs.
The only thing that's hardcore outa Japan are the perverts buying dirty women's underwear from vending machines. I wouldn't say having more jrpg's makes you hardcore.
Still, that doesn't beat the rampant pedophiles in America's school system ;) Yep, you can add to the list of sexual deviants in America with the latest news story about an American elementary teacher videotaping children and their private parts in the stalls.
there is that avatar again hmmm
It's defiently not the DudeBro console, I can tell ya that!
Disagree. Many a dude shoots stuff with their bros on ps4. Source: Play any FPS online
Wasnt cod the most played ps4 game? And destiny the biggest new ip launch on ps4? Dudebro doesnt even make sense grow up dude.
No, I'm the reason Playstation is more Hardcore. No, I'm just kidding. This article is shooting itself in the foot with that title. Actually read it and it makes some sense. Its trying to say that Sony takes more risks on the types of games it supports. Games that are not guaranteed hits. I think most would agree that is true. Its also saying Playstation gamers prefer a bigger variety of games and not just the blockbuster staples. I think most would agree thats true as well. I dont think MS would support games like The Journey or Heavy Rain. At least not until they saw someone else achieve some success with it, then they would jump on board. I also think if Sunset Overdrive was a PS4 exclusive it would be well over 2 million sold by now, instead of still struggling to reach 1 million. I think thats the point the article is trying to make but the title did it no favours as many will just read that and (over)react to it. Using words like hardcore and casual makes people choose a side of the fence to sit on immediately without even considering your argument.
@Bath "I dont think MS would support games like The Journey or Heavy Rain." They supported titles like Ori, Obscure weird D4 game. And Quantum Break which narrative driven experience. I think MS is way more open to any sort of type of game now. "I also think if Sunset Overdrive was a PS4 exclusive it would be well over 2 million sold by now, instead of still struggling to reach 1 million." I don't think that exactly right. The game since its debut had allot of people skeptical on exactly what its about. Only last summer is when the hype started building. The hype, commercializing couldn't get any grander than MS put in it. The hype was there for this game and if you think about it. In a age where something like SSOD isn't exactly the go to genre, the fans are still there and the game didn't sell all to bad if you think about the kind of game it is and who its targeting. Would the game sell a little better on PS4? Its possible but 2 million copies I don't think Sunset is that kind of Ip yet.
Dont know why you're getting disagreed because you're spot on with the examples you gave. MS supported titles like D4 and the like but we'll see how long they'll carry on doing so in light of poor sales for said titles.
I think you're right for the most part, but I do honestly think SSOD would have sold more on a Sony console. Insomniac has a bigger fan base on Sony consoles and with the much larger install base on the ps4 I'm sure a great game like SSOD would have broke 2 Milli by now. Plus I find the Sony fan base is a bit more willing to try new things that the MS fan base, I mean I find the order to be somewhat mediocre, yet its selling like hot fire right now. Also Sony is known for starting and pushing new ips very often, ni no kuni, tlou, pupeteer, beyond 2 souls, resogun, DC, the order, Helldiver's, transistor and knack just to name a few in the last 2 years.
D4 sold terribly and apparently the following chapters aren't being made as a result and Quantum Break isn't out yet so till we see sales it's a reach to say it will sell.
No, it's 1 game.
they do have Helldivers so I say yes. That game alone is too hardcore for its shirt.
There is only noe hardcore gaming plattform... And that is PC. All off the complicated games are om PC like RTS, mobas, and FPS without aim assistance.
Consoles are casual as hell compared to the PC. That's where hardcore lives. Forget about dying a 100 times, thats kid stuff. Some of the most popular PC games like Day Z features perma death. Basically if you like complex and intricate game mechanics with punishing difficulty then the PC is the way to go.
And yet all of the most casual games ever made can also be played on PC.
I'll agree that PC is the most hardcore platform, but it has nothing to do with it's games. It's the fact that people are willing to assemble their own PC to get the most cutting edge experience. They're a niche audience in the overall PC gaming market, but they are hardcore.
The only thing hardcore is this articles love for PS4! Zzzzz
You know, I'm sick and tired of people throwing buzzwords like "hardcore" and "AAA" around like they're frisbies at the beach. No, having one game does not make any console more, "hardcore" than the other, a console cannot even be considered "hardcore". Only gamers can be considered "hardcore"; and you could be a "hardcore" Ouya player for all I care. Jeeze, I get that N4G has always attracted Yellow Journalism, but lately it seems like it's really gotten out of hand.
didn't play bloodborne, don't know how hardcore it is yet
well its not easy thats for sure lol.
The pre alpha i played was hard as [email protected]$k. I never beat the bridge boss.
So PS4 is hardcore because of one clunky/difficult game.. Ok then. Lmao The PS4 is not a hardcore console in any way shape or form.. Trying to think of a good way to put it.. The PS4 is the most common I think.. Every game is just chucked on there without consideration and the console is cluttered with crap This gen the XB1 is 100% the hardcore console. Highly rated exclusives and difficult online play.
its hard for me to believe only with 1 bubble anyway tons of my friends are buying this month a ps4 only for Bloodborne so i guess its kinda hardcore.
I can't believe i wasted a portion of my life reading this junk comment. However, it is quite hilarious to see the ps4 scare small children so much so that they have to resort to desperate downplay and bashing. Keep it up sony.
"difficult online play. " Yep, those squeaky-sounding children on Xbox Live talking shit over kinetic mics sure are difficult to deal/reason with..
That made me chuckele, lol Good joke man!
"difficult online play" That's what you get for using a controller that's made for people with asymmetrical thumbs. PS4 is the most common because more people want one.
Well, considering that one console was focusing on a camera for petting baby animals and dancing to Justin Beebers when not playing COD, I think its quite easy to see the difference in the hardcore nature from one console to the other. Xbox really is the Mountain Dew/X games of video games. Its called the X Box FFS. Extreme!!!!! Its like Poochy the dog for digital games.
"Hardcore" games to me simply mean that the game demands alot from the player. A casual game is easy to pick up and play. "Hardcore" can mean lots of different things. As it seems, Bloodborne will likely fall into a "hardcore" game and an addition to the "hardcore" library of the PS4, but hardly does it make it the ONLY choice.
