Gaming Illustrated :Sonic the Hedgehog is a beloved character to gamers old and young alike. Yet, it hasn't been easy for the familiar blue blur to connect with gamers over the last decade. Recent games have failed to capture the magic found in the blue hedgehog's beginnings on the Genesis or the novel feeling of the Sonic Adventure games for Dreamcast. There was something special about those games. However, quality has slowly degraded since those halcyon days.
Despite recent shake-ups within Sega, it is unlikely that Sonic's days on consoles are over. But what can be done to rescue the blue hero from perpetual mediocrity? The answer may reside with indie developers.
