Anyone Who Says ‘You Can’t Do VR on Console’ Hasn’t Tried Sony’s 2015 Morpheus Prototype

On the one year anniversary of the device’s unveiling, Sony has revealed a substantial upgrade to the Morpheus PS4 VR headset, a version which they say has nearly reached its final form for a launch by Q2 2016.

I can't wait to get my hands on this thing. Just imagine playing Dying Light in VR...

My imagination runs wild.

JoGam3767d ago

I'm excited to experience it. Can't wait!

amiga-man3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

Sony are hardware people if anyone can get the most out of VR on console these are the guys to do it, I must admit I wasnt sure the PS4 could pull off VR properly, but it appears Sony wants to create a top notch VR experience and have addressed most of the issues with this new prototype.

I know one thing for sure, when its launched Sony has a definete customer in me, I cant wait.

bleedsoe9mm3767d ago

i'm excited just to try vr , i wonder how open sony's platform will be compared to the pc .

DigitalHope3767d ago

My job has me going to a sony trade show in april. I've been told morpheus will be there. Fingers crossed.

Rimeskeem3767d ago

Dying light isn't made for VR though. Yah, would be cool to have it like that but the devs would need to make the game for VR. Plus that's oculus.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

Uh, that's Occulus not Morpheus. Sony specializes in imaging technology so I suspect they won't have the problems that Occulus is having especially since Sony has already said that Morpheus is in the final stages of development and will be the first VR system released.

I'm truly looking forward to experiencing games like Outlast2 and Silent Hills in VR.

Hope you have a PS4, I do...

Well to be fair, Dying Light was played on a DK2, and the game wasnt even optimised for VR. Thats not really an accurate depiction of the future of VR.
Now if you played Half Life 2 in VR on steam, you would have had quite a different experience. Valve optimised it and it works extremely well with the Rift.

bleedsoe9mm3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

thats my question do we buy game that can be played on tv and vr , or are there 2 versions or are games made just for vr with no tv version or both

JoGam3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

At least I now know who disagreed on my comment. The only hater in the room.

IcicleTrepan3767d ago

One thing people are forgetting also is on the PS4 it is harder to make a game into VR. On PC you have a lot of leeway because of the extra horsepower, so you can take a game that's not VR and use it as such if you have enough horsepower, or you have to completely rebuild it for VR which is what you have to do on PS4 as well. So I doubt we'll ever see dying light on Morpheus unless they release a special version just for it.

Joe9133767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

In the article you posted yourself to prove dying light would not be good for VR says itself that the problems could easily fixed hell if you read it the new specs of the Morpheus fixes half of the problems lol. And it sounds like the dying light they played you still had to use the controller to even turn your head the Morpheus will be able to track head movement making it easier to navigate imo.

bleedsoe9mm: From what I have read there will be a mode where you can have the headset on but it will still display what you see on the tv I guess if other people is in the room not sure if this changed with the new version out because they also said they will look into a wireless one but now saying nope not going to happen.

I think anything not made for it will just be a really close to your face 3d. Even the simple stuff for cardboard is pretty cool.

Joe9133767d ago

That would be awesome people would crap on themselves lol especially at night.

MelvinTheGreat3767d ago

The overwhelming majority of people think that you can just port games over to VR. Hate to burst your bubble but games have to be built from the ground up for VR

I haven't heard anyone say that.

3D gaming: $500 PlayStation monitor
Vita: $300 launch bundle
Move: $200 in peripherals

What do they all have in common? Eventual abandonment of support.

Now they try to get me to strap a pseudo helmet on for fake VR at the cost of another $400-500?

Gonna have to say no to this one.

LordMaim3767d ago

Except that the Vita is still selling and the Move is going to be used *with* the Morpheus.

Also, they said that the expected price point was going to be a lot less, so there's that too.

Christopher3767d ago

Agree with the 3D gaming and Move, do not agree with Vita. Also don't want anything to do with VR, much like Move and 3D gaming. But, I might be a bit biased. I only see out of one eye.

Vita is a solid mobile gaming device and great for remote play gaming. And, I got it for $199 with a game two years back. You should get it for cheaper now.

skyrimer3766d ago

I think that VR is far more than 3d, huge field of view and headtracking matters as much if not more.

Christopher3766d ago

@skyrimer: Wearing a headgear for more than half an hour will have long term physical issues that make it not keen for "core gamers" and will only be utilized in small doses in the long run. I also don't think you will see people support it because it won't have an attach rate in line with all the other forms of gaming out there as it is.

Goku7813767d ago

And the first Xbox, kinect and kinect 2.0 stayed relevant for how many years with support?

Yaay4me3767d ago

All I know is that VR will be sweetness. pure and simple.

DigitalHope3767d ago

No man's sky and morpheus....sounds like a dream i will never wake from.

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

I’m an old fart too. I couldn’t believe how violent saints and sinners was.

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
