GDC 2015: Open-World Space Trading Game 'Drifter' Still in the Works for iOS

TouchArcade: Colin Walsh of Celsius Game Studios stopped by the Touch Arcade GDC war room to show off the latest version of Drifter, his long-in-development open-world space simulation game. The game has been in early access on Steam for a while now, but the game is still planned to release on iOS down the road, and he showed off the game running on an original iPad Mini.

i think this applies to all consoles this gen. they are just PCs with the same hardware

XiNarutoUzumaki3570d ago (Edited 3570d ago )

PS4 isn't a PC. It is the Future, and the future is PS4.

annus3570d ago

If the future requires a downgrade in res, fps, and graphics then sure.

jaseo3570d ago

definitely easier than the PS3! PS4 is really developer friendly at all levels.

Clover9043570d ago

Lol, right! Cannot wait for Drifter and Metrico to drop on Vita :)

Tetsujin3570d ago

Says in the article before the end of the year, however wasn't specific on PC and PS4/Vita or just one platform.

That Cerny magic paying back in spades since launch.

miyamoto3570d ago (Edited 3570d ago )

That Cerny Magic is called "The Cerny Method" or simply "The Method".

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

This "magic" is exclusive to many PlayStation exclusives specially the ones made by Mark Cerny and the world's top developer, Naughty Dog.
Games like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, and Uncharted then carries on to The Last of Us.
This "magic" is something I find missing on many games and other platforms like PC, Xbox, Nintendo no matter how powerful the specs are, no matter how high their production budget are.

You just feel this "magic" and no words can describe it.

They don't have time to do it. Slow news day.

truefan13611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

I literally scrolled through all 31 comments, AND NOT 1 EVEN MENTIONED THIS GAME. That proves what I have been saying all along, a bunch of games no one cares about are not coming to XB1, if not for the not coming to XB1 in the title no one would care. Heck, the title picture is of an XB1 and the game is not coming to XB1 lol. PS The better indie develops like The Behemoth, Capy, Undead... are developing for XB1, were good.

@xHeavyx your comment makes 32 not about the game lol.

xHeavYx3611d ago

You really bother to comment around for being someone who " doesn't care"

redwin3611d ago

I think you have a point, the news here is that it is not yet coming to Xbox, not ! that it is coming to the PS4.

Pogmathoin3610d ago

More free advertising for another developer...... Who cares whether it is coming to X1 or not......

KinjoTakemura3610d ago

@truefan

"bunch of games no one cares about"

Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
Fighter Within
Killer Instinct
Kinect sports rivals
Nutjitsu
Powerstar Golf
Ryse
Super Time Force
Xbox Fitness

Truefan pretty much summed up the Xbox One's unremarkable list of "exclusives." You're right, they're just a bunch of games that no one cares about.

Ausbo3611d ago

Microsoft is really playing catch up so far. Although, in like 3-4 years I expect these small companies to release on both consoles

tinynuggins3611d ago

I think it will be sooner than that. I think by next e3 ID@Xbox will be in full swing.

ZodTheRipper3611d ago

Microsoft would need to change it's (incredibly stupid) policies to allow a later release of these games.

lelo3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

And this is why the parity clause exists. Small developers always go for for their biggest audience first, and as of now its the PC and PS4. Microsoft without the parity clause are f***ed. Without that clause small developers will make their games firstly on the PC and PS4, and then much later they would release it on other platforms like the X1. That simply would be very bad business for the X1. That's what's happening with the WiiU.

From a business stand point the parity clause makes perfect sense. Microsoft doesn't want games being released firstly on other platforms. Who would buy their console if multiplatform games where release previously on other platforms?

Notramagama3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

No one gives a damn about the game or 99% of the games affected by this...
Click bait

Predaking773611d ago

The things is that this is not about 1 game, this have been happening with many titles both indies and third parties on the last 3 months.

People with the X1 will not accept it of cource but anyone else can see the trend.

Notramagama3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

@pred

I mentioned that. 1% of this site will buy drifter, and 10% will buy the other games lost from parity and only because they are exclusive. Otherwise if they aren't ps+ no one will play. This isn't a game anyone cares about and so are 99% of the shovelware. I don't even care. I do care about consistent updates and media support. Ms has the AAAs on lock anyway

medman3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

@notramagama
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!! The familiar refrain of the loser...here's a pro tip for you...more games is never a bad thing, and less games is always a bad thing. You're welcome.

Automatic793611d ago

I think you are missing one key point about parity clause, it is also made to provide fresh content on X1 as well. If you look at the indie stuff on X1 you see a lot more originality then with any other console, specifically exclusive indie games. Going forward I am sure there will be titles that appear on both consoles day one and also exclusives but having to much of the same stuff doesn't help differentiate both consoles. I think going forward X1 will have a lot more titles that benefit X1, Kinect, smartglass like TRU.

XiSasukeUchiha3611d ago

Nooo Nooooo(Slap across face) no!

psyxon3611d ago

You know your comment was stupid when Sasuke is telling you no.

Copen3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

Poor attempt to justify a shitty business practice simply because it's your console of choice. As far as this "Who would buy their console if multiplatform games where release previously on other platforms?" It's not up to you to worry about what games are selling or not. If they built a better product everyone wanted and ditched the poor outdated policies their position would be better. The little things like the parity clause,DRM moneyhatting 3rd party games instead of using that money to fund a game they'd actually own are ALL great examples of why MS is losing keep trying to spin these things into positives all you want but the examples given are bad for gaming.

lelo3611d ago (Edited 3611d ago )

I don't even have a X1. I only have a PC and PS4 for now. I'll get a X1 later on. For me I don't give a crap if it's released in one console or another or if it's exclusive or not.

Contrary to you and other blind fanboys like you, I at least try to see the big picture. Like it or not, the parity clause exists as a business decision. If you took out your fanboy glasses for 5 min, you would know that a game that's released later on a console, doesn't sell as much copies nor sell as much consoles as the console where the game was originally released (with a few exceptions). A perfect example is Mass Effect 1. Do you think Mass Effect 1 sold as much copies on the PS3 (released a couple of years later) as on the X360?

Ausbo3611d ago

@lelo

I dont think mass effect is a good example. We are talking about 5 years here. Mass effect 1 was released in 07, and not released on ps3 till 2012. Of course a game that came out 5 years earlier didnt sell much.

Copen3608d ago (Edited 3608d ago )

@ lelo

You just can't understand simple logic can you? Microsoft's policy states that if game X launches first on any other platform besides an xbox that game X will NEVER come to xbox at all in any capacity. So you're failed attempt to justify this corporate trash makes zero since because what you're saying is its better for Microsoft if the game is released under their parity clause you're saying that having it on the xbox first is better than not having it at all if it's released on a competing platform first? So MS would rather screw gamers and themselves to adhere to their parity clause instead of making any money at all? And you're defending this wow?

SilentNegotiator3610d ago (Edited 3610d ago )

So in order to protect themselves from not getting games late, due to not being the most popular platform, they've striven to NEVER get games that they don't get parity on? And in the end, Microsoft gets less games out of it anyway (if this trend continues)?

From a business standpoint that makes zero sense.

TWB3611d ago

Its not the matter of supporting 60FPS...

FPS is a measurement unit which tells how fast the hardware can perform/render one imnage under the specific load.

Sorry had to pick on this detail, it kinda pisses me off when I see articles/titles which treat framerate in games as a feature.

Tedakin3611d ago

Hey, how about get Outlast on Xbone. It's been a few months since the PS4 one. I know small devs can't do multiple versions at once, and they implied Outlast would come to Xbone. Get on that.

esemce3611d ago

Sorry Microsoft says you cannot have it on the Xbone because it was on the PC and PS4 first.

People can try to defend this crap all they like but MS do not give a sh1t about gamers or struggling devs.

Tedakin3611d ago

Is that how that works? If it's on Ps4 first they won't let them put it on Xbone? I thought the rule was they had to release them at the same time, even if it meant delaying the PS4 one. That is some bullshit if true. Hey MS... I'll glady BUY Outlast on Xbone right now 2 months after PS4 got it! ;)

KinjoTakemura3610d ago

@Tedakin

"If it's on Ps4 first they won't let them put it on Xbone?"

Yep, it's true.

Spotie3611d ago

The clause says the game can come out first or at the same time on Xbox; they won't allow it on Xbox if it was released on another console first.

Despite the best- still pretty bad, though- efforts of some above, there's no excuse for such a practice.

Infamazdre3611d ago

The game is really all that good, I'd suggest waiting for the evil within
