Microsoft is working on a 'hardcore' game controller for the Xbox One

Microsoft's Xbox One got off to a rough start thanks to a mixed message about the target audience for the device. With that issue behind them, they have returned their focus to the gaming community and now sources are telling us that they are looking to launch a 'hardcore' game controller at E3 2015.

@mike Agreed. My hands are big and those shoulder buttons just aren't as accessible as I'd like. Also, not crazy about how loud the clicks are on them (or the dpad).

Mmm, but seriously they need some proper games first and anyway I thought their pad/controller was already the best ever, typical this new controller alongside the console shouldn't have launched for an extra year, at least ps4 is off the console is out the games are starting to come thick and fast and by next year they will have Morpheus out whereas microsoft are gonna have an unused Kinect a new controller and more apps halo 5 new tomb raider as an exclusive and a new gears at some point but that's 2 games over the next year or so and a new controller, wow glad I chose ps4 I'll get the xbox one once they've finished designing it and testing it on public, ie wait for their slim line model as that will be there next plan of action wouldn't have thought they can take too much more off the price yet.

Seriously, I have always wondered why Sony and MS don't make pro versions or Scuff-like controllers.

Maybe seeing the Valve controller made them realize theirs isn't the be all end all. I really like the ring finger buttons.

Also, maybe the new Win10 addition and their reinvigorated interest in PC gaming has made them realize that they can do more...again after seeing the steam controller.

Who knows, but with all the media options, m and k/b use etc...there's alot of room for improvemt.

That valve controller is horrible dude. And it could never be used in a hardcore match of any kind. Theirs going to be latency as in missed ques due to its design and finger pressure error. Naaa that thing is a joke unless your playing something cartoony or a puzzle game.

Probably stuff such as better grip, stereo adapter with added functionality, removable parts such as small weights, for weight adjustment etc. Battery wise don't expect too much change as people can already decide on which (quality of AA) batteries/packs they want to purchase for the controller.

This is the first thing i thought about when i read the title. Ive been waiting for a controller that can match the precision of a mouse. I was disappointed when the controllers were conservative upgrades from their predecessors.

Please have a built in battery, none of this AA batteries crap. Dont want to get a controller then have to spend more money just to get a play n charge kit, its 2015 this should be a standard

Play and charge cost me $30 NZD. 1/4 price of a game and it holds as much charge now as it did on day one. Usually about a weeks gaming, 5hrs a night.

How much money have you spent on batteries?

I bought a play n charge kit the week I got my xbox so I spent nothing on batteries. Just dumb that we buy $60 controllers then have to spend another $20 to $30 to get some kind of kit to charge them.

i would said Dualshock 3 has the best built in battery in a controller. up to 80 hours with out any charging plus it charges really fast.

In your opinion. To me the DS4 is the best and most comfortable controller. The griped texture is amazing. Its perfect for me. But that's just my opinion.

Yes Xbox does have the best controller to date... why do you think so many from Amazon Kindle fire Tv, Madcat Mojo, Razor Forge Tv and even all Nvidia Shield(handheld,tablet add-on now console)all copied the Xbox controller(it's the obvious choice).Not like that other one with the smudge pad and flashlight.

Surely the right thumbstick should be switched with the face buttons for a more ergonomic resting position for the right thumb? Isn't that the reason many people prefer the Xbox controller to the PS?
Most games involve moving a character and camera in 3D space, therefore symmetrical sticks should be good if you prefer the left thumbstick where it is. - See the Wii U Pro controller.

I prefer the thumbsticks in the lower position since I feel you get more accurate movement in the thumb - but this could just be what I'm used to.

I agree that's the only thing that's made me hate the Xbox brand is the layout of the joysticks. If they change it or release a model for people who like it symmetrical I would be all for it.

Ironicaly, its the DS controller thats meant for shooters where as the Xbox controller is meant for action. Notice how the left anologe and the abxy buttons are alined. This also makes it more compatible for fighting games. Where as the Dual shock, the left and right anolouge are alined, movement and vision are on the same level, perfect for fps and tps but not everything else.

The future of controllers is where you can use most functions without moving your fingers much at all. Thinking about the flexibility paddles give you in not having to remove your fingers from the analogs, those should be actual buttons located right where your middle fingers rest on the grips.

I'd prefer paddles, as everyone puts their fingers in different spots on the controller. And paddles seem to cover wherever they are.

I would like them to make this type of controller though. Scufs are great to use, but their quality/durability is nowhere near that of the factory made controllers.

There is reason why all big tournaments for console are on x box 1 The best players in world use x box is been proven.

That's just because Microsoft paid to be MLG's console. Before that they were PlayStation, even on CoD.

Comp players use whatever they have to for FPS. In terms of fighting games though, they prefer PS3, as it has sligjtly less input lag than 360. Evo 2014 was last year's largest fighting tournament and all games were on PS3 rather than 360.

But if you're thinking that CoD players choose Xbox1 over PS4 because it is physically better in some way is incorrect. If MLG had said they were using PS4 instead, players would have simply practiced on PS4. Before the next gen launch, it was actually kind of expected it'd be ps4, but Microsoft had a contract with mlg

what does that mean? does that mean that people who buy the controller will have an advantage over those who don't have it?? What is better about the controller exactly? I don't see this as a good thing unless the controller is a sort of keyboard and mouse scheme. In that case the people who buy this controller would have an advantage while playing online. in a sense you might feel that you have to buy it to stay competitive. BUT, if its a keyboard and mouse scheme at least we would get the benefit that such a input device offers. Ex. strategy games that normally you can only play on PC. So its a give and take. Other than that, I think it sets a bad precedent. just my opinion of course. (with no knowledge of what it could be)

I'd just make a 360 controller with a dpad made by Sega. The dpads Sega made for their 6button Genesis or the Saturn 3d controller. Those pads made street fighter games silky smooth.
