I believe that wholeheartedly. It's been a problem with the industry, people always want to play the safe thing or idea.

There really is beauty in simplicity, and I feel like it's purposely being buried in a rush to shove as many bells and whistles as possible into a project.

Well, I get what he is saying but it sounds terrible. The phrase translates into essentially "develop for casuals."

IMO the real sweet spot for games are relatively simple systems that are easy to understand, yet difficult to master. The souls game do this brilliantly as well as a few others.
