I'm going to guess that the Nielsen survey gave a list of reasons and asked the buyers to choose the reasons that they agreed with, and that's how it ends up reading like this.
Yeah we don't really know the context of these questions. I assume they are about why you chose one particular console over the other, and in that context they make sense. Not sure what the big deal is, honestly.
Note: There's a question at the bottom of the graphics, but since they couldn't even be bothered to include their methods/process of gathering this information, I do not at all trust that their survey was done very professionally/scientifically and that they ACTUALLY asked that exact, same question every time.
Wow yeah! Should have known it was an avid xbox fan behind this article.
Anyways... "It turns out that the pollsters put together a list of 30 reasons to choose from (of which “better resolution” was just one) and the following question was asked separately for each system they owned:"
For the record, its Nielsen's fault not the PS4 consumers, buddy.
But what is funny is this: "XBOX" brand for the xboxers as the numero uno reason why they settled for the XB1.
That is sure so telling about the Xbox fans,eh?
Fans of a brand not a fan of which is the better or in this case the best. If the XB1, is honestly & really, the better platform than PS4 I will choose it. But in this case its not.... in my opinion.
Oh well, its their money not mine. I warned them, though.
My main reason for a console is normally exclusives which the playstation brand has most of, my main reason for the PS3 too - Tales, ni no kuni, Yakuza persona so yeah those JRPGs. Love only Japanese exclusives too like those Gundam, Macross and SRW games too. But there are alot of other exclusives in all different genres that interest me too (diversity).
For most multi platform games I normally would go for PC - mods and such (some games I prefer on the PC, guess it's that mentality and use of keyboard and mouse) but yeah the resolutions and such are just bonuses for me. In the end buy the console that most appeals to you with the type of games you like!
But I thought the majority of gamers would think like me, I know most of my friends are similar to me. Consoles either Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony for exclusives and then a PC.
The only reason to buy a PS4 right now is (will be) Bloodborne. There are no good reasons to buy an XB1. WiiU has a reasonable amount of good games.
Overall this gen makes me feel like consoles in general are in their last years. Maybe one more generation and then they'll be replaced by phones and PCs that can stream to your TV. I mean.... don't tell me this isn't a depressing sight : http://www.metacritic.com/f... http://www.metacritic.com/f...
Also I believe Nielsen probably interviewed potatoes for this research
And i bet if people said there isn't good reasons for them to buy a ps4 they'd get crucified by the playstation loyal and i think that people will disagree with your claim that the xb1 has no good reasons to buy one excluding your obvious bias towards it
I'm looking at the XB1's library and all I see is games that would be better bought on steam. I get the exact same feeling out of the PS4's library except for Bloodborne which has marterpiece written all over it
@ Kneon; you assume I'd have a PS4, or that I wouldn't double dip if I did have both systems for the sake of playing with friends who only have one or the other, so really, no, I'm not down one choice.
Mention of games is also higher on the Ps4 list than the others.
I'm guessing the frame of the question was leading people to hardware related answers, and resolution was a big controversy at the start of the generation.
The only reason I have a PS4 is because I love a lot of Sony's exclusives. While I'm waiting for them I would rather play cross generation games on a system that will run the games better. Plus multiplatform games run better on the PS4 overall. I'm gonna get an Xbone eventually, just waiting on a size reduction because I really don't have anywhere to put the thing right now.
Whats funny about this is PS4 fans picked the CPU processing power as an adavantage and not the GPU thats the advantage PS4 has.
Is to just me after the EA access fanboy rant about Battlefield Hardline it just seems to me people who own a ps4 are not that informed about gaming news in general.
I didn't buyy PS4 because of no damn resolution. I bought it because its a PlayStation, and if history is correct Sony brings out the most unique, diverse, and abundent games. I can care less what resolution the PS4 was.
The survey itself was laughable. The answers to the suvey questions that were provided bleed into eachothers meanings. "Family preference" could literally mean any of the other answers. You coukd give a survey with those multiple choice questions and answers and literally derive whatever meaning you wanted from it.
If we are being honest none of the consoles have blown me away...I am a Nintendo guy but overall this gen seems like a bridge to the next...hopefully the next two years prove me wrong
Totally agree. I'm (seemingly) in the minority, but as an owner, the PS4 has been disappointing to me so far - certainly compared to the highfalutin and downright hyperbolic worship it gets on this website in particular.

Resolution made it to the top of the list for PS4 ^_^.

If the Price is Right girl came with the console I would buy another console again.
