Review: Dragon Ball XenoVerse Is Comfortably Over Nine Thousand [EGMR]

EGMR writes: "Dimps has done it again. Dragon Ball Xenoverse is undoubtedly one of the best games we've played in this franchise for years. It's smartly designed, it's completely fresh, it's rock solid mechanically, it looks astounding in motion and there's more than enough content to keep you addicted and invested. XenoVerse's greatest strength is the way it drives you to play more, knowing the game will continue to get better as your character grows and you unlock more fantastic things, and ultimately it's an awesome DBZ game that is comfortably over nine thousand. In other words it's a damn fine game."

I'll be *getting my copy tomorrow. It's been a while.

Same here, dragonball games are like a secret love of mine! Even though most are basically crap if I didn't like the anime.

Looks like I'll really enjoy this one!

I've been chasing the dragon(derp) ever since Dragon Ball Advance(the side-scrolling, platformer, beat 'em up style one), and it looks like this one will be a good time.
:)
DBA is still the perfect encapsulation of the series, imo.

This really looks like a lot of fun.

Not a perfect Dragonball game, but is better then BoZ.

I hear it is the best one ever made though.
Even Budokai 3 fans have said to have been converted.
Can't wait to play mine tonight.

OmegaShen3727d ago (Edited 3727d ago )

Budokai 3 was a 2D fighting game, the draw back of this game is dumb AI parters and crazy number of bad guys to fight while trying to keep someone alive.

Cell saga- you, Gohan vs Cell and six Cell jrs. To me Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is the best because of the controls to fly and do attack don't need a menu popping up and characters weren't cut out for dlc.

BitbyDeath3727d ago

I haven't played it yet, just seen from others reports from the link I added below.

Will hopefully play it tonight.

Having creatable characters or custom story is not going to put it in my list of top 5 DBZ games but I don't know how good the actual gameplay is yet. I will wait until it's cheaper and then get it. Not wasting $60 on another DBZ game like I did with RB2 unless they release a demo and it's actually a great game but I doubt they will make a demo.

This game looks pretty cool, my favourite bit about it is the fact you can make your own character. I used to draw my own as a kid so that aspect of the game has me excited! I haven't playd a DBZ game in years , so this one is fairly tempting. Don't know if I wanna drop full price on it though. Any one played it and got any insights??

BlackTar1873727d ago

I'm with you. Any first hand knowledge from anyone? I used to play DBZ games from japan when my brother was stationed there but not since DBX legends.

Was a huge DBZ fighter fan on SNES

LAWSON723727d ago (Edited 3727d ago )

Great idea, but not executed with a very big budget, tackles more than it should really. It has an interesting fighting system that certainly is not like Budokai. It is as close to a DBZ MMORPG as it gets, just expect bugs and sometimes bad graphics and animations.

IMO it is more an RPG then a fighting game from what I have played, or maybe just a good mix between the two. Just don't expect a 2d fighter experience.

I am really liking the coop parallel missions with friends.

ninsigma3727d ago

Thanks for the info!

The character progression sounds like it's pretty cool.

Yeah didn't expect it to be top quality budget, but the graphics seem like they suit the DB world really well.

How did you find the character creation??

LAWSON723727d ago (Edited 3727d ago )

Just TokiToki the main hub is very ugly and the animations there are horrid. Everything else is not bad and at times looks awesome, they even throw in some 2d anime scenes.

DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE Review | What's It Like In 2024?

While a far cry from its successor, XENOVERSE 2, XENOVERSE 1 benefits from its simplicity and its barebones approach to what XENOVERSE 2 would ultimately become, allowing for a more streamlined experience that keeps it concise, tight, and surprisingly therapeutic for those that want a Dragon Ball experience that easy to jump in and out of.
