The Oscars honor the person but gaming honors the game. Why?
It's never been easier to make a pretty decent indie game by yourself. In the end, the only limitation is oneself.
But how else is my dream game supposed to be made? I wanted to have a full AAA title kinda like what no man's sky was at launch but less content and on the seas instead of space.
Ok so this article keeps popping up in my twitter feed and now on n4g. This article sounds like it was written by the most arrogant game developer on the planet. Yes a lot of people think just having a good idea for a game makes them capable of making a game but if you read the email sent by the "ideas guy" he seems like a genuine guy that wants to make a game. His idea is probably not good and thats fine but where does all of this arrogance come from with a guy from a studio that has made one game and can't even afford to make a hosted website (the company website still has wordpress in the address) Also this article is from 10 months ago how did this get approved on N4G recently anyway?
SNERDAPERDS discusses the process of building a game in 24 hours in an article he wrote for the website that he named after himself.
The story of how Tobias Stolz-Zwilling got his job at Warhorse Studio
I think the gaming industry does honour game creators. Creators like Hideo Kojima, Miyamoto,Mikami, then you have the western devs like Cliff Bleszinski, Neil Druckmann, Bruce Straley Sam & Dan Houser, Ken Levine etc etc etc
GDC usually give awards for thinbgs like Sound Design, Level Design etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
But then again usually the big 'AAA' games are corporate ideas not necessarily individual ideas. Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Madden, FIFA etc etc. They may have been at one time, but now they're just corporte property.
I think we honour them more as most gamers get to know the names of people behind the scenes like art designers, sound composers and game writers, not just the creative directors leading the project or the names of the studios as a whole
With the Film industry it's different we always praise a Director even if the the main reason why the film is so good falls onto the great story the films tells. Nobody seems to give a shit about the screenwriter the majority of the time.
