Having voiced character’s like Ezio from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Batman in Batman Arkham Origins and recently the protagonist Kyle Crane in Dying Light, voice over actor Roger Craig Smith has become one of the prominent figures in the gaming industry today. Recently, PlayStation LifeStyle’s own Dan Oravasaari got a chance to ask the acclaimed voice over actor a few questions about becoming some of the most well known characters in history and discuss how a character’s personality is brought to life.
Roger Craig Smith is returning to Dying Light as Kyle Crane in the new standalone title, The Beast. Insider Gaming was able to catch up with Smith at Gamescom to talk about his return.
From Sonic Stadium: "Roger Craig Smith has revealed that he chose to step away from voicing Sonic the Hedgehog, and was not a result of SEGA decision-making.
In an interview with Voices from Krypton, the voice actor – whose other roles have ranged from Batman to Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio Auditore to Bugsnax’s Snorpy Fizzlebean – said that he felt he had naturally given as much as he could to SEGA’s blue-blur mascot. The timing simply felt right for him to step away and explore new roles, he suggested."
Shoutout to Sonic’s Japanese voice actor for sticking with the character since 1998’s Sonic Adventure
Shout to Sonic’s rival’s voice actor sticking with Mario since 1992’s Mario Teaches Typing
It always comes down to money. Sonic games are not the only medium hes in anymore and I would bet Roger not being given a shot at voicing the movie was a factor. Got to wonder what Sonic Team is working on these days....the last legit Sonic game was Forces and it certainly wasn't a bit hit.
Just watched the Sonic movie and have to say, it was not awful. My daughter loved it.
After a decade in the role, it appears that Roger Craig Smith will no longer be voicing Sonic the Hedgehog.
