Will of Geeks Don't Lie discusses whether paid DLC is good for the gaming industry.
Killing games Developers need to make great, working, COMPLETE games to release, not count on DLC like PS2, PS1 generations and before, when DLC did not exist. I miss the pre-DLC generations
I agree and disagree. For me some dlc has been done right like Mario Kart, Pikmin, luigiU, Forza Horizon 2 are just a few examples but others like we see alot in FPS games or even sports games I don't think is right. I do agree we are seeing alot more broken games than we have ever seen before and this needs to be addressed. For me ide rather see games like COD be on a 2 year cycle but then have some DLC every 3 to 6 months rather than 4 weeks after a game is out. But what do I know I just play games not develop them.
DLC is a cancer to gaming.
I completely agree
DLC is fine if it wasn't ripped out the the game and just sold off as dlc *cough* Evolve *cough* There have been plenty of great DLC like GTA 4: Ballard of Gay Tony, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare and pretty much all of the dlc in Burnout Paradise were amazing especially Big Surf Island.
To me Ballard of gay Tony was a new like game and it was amazing.
Dunno about killing/saving but its giving more and more companies a bad reputation. Its also giving them a ton of extra money though because the dlc is often good enough to make many people buy it. Can only talk for myself here but I stopped buying games from a couple developers or am waiting for versions which have all dlc included and are released for the launch price or less. I am rarely buying games at launch now because dlc.
Kinda dumbass a question is this...... Dlc could be something great, adding more content to a complete and full game is awesome. Not lopping it off and handing your on disc content back to you later for a little pocket change. Evolve is fvcking cancer, its a 60$ game with a crappy season pass and preorder bull shit mixed with a free to play model more befitting of SOE. They literally thought of every way to screw gamers possible and stuffed it in one game. The only thing missing is a subscription and boom you have the perfect abomination......
Well, it WAS great when they were full on expansions. Now, they are easy cash grabs.
Agreed. What a Dumbass question with an obvious answer. Yes, the Industry with its GREEDY TACTICS is killing gaming and turning it into a shallow frankenstien experience.
DLC is def killing it, thanks to certain publishers. Evolve and Destiny come to mind. When there is more promise of the game in DLC than the actual $60 you pay for game, thats how you know DLC is killing games.
Pretty much: http://i.imgur.com/qSMqJXE....
In away yes, the games suppose to complete as in ps2 days. Dlc suppose to be add on content that's not already on disc. Ex: the latest tales games the costumes like butler/maid, swimsuits should of been unlocked in game like the ps2 tales instead we have as paid dlc. Instead of having costumes in game they take them out and have them as paid dlc that's a no no. What should happen is they should have half of them free. Edit Another thing is they put things like gald and experience as dlc which is a stupid dlc and yet people buy it. As long as people pay for it and they money it's not going away.
Unless it's made by Rockstar or Criterion (Burnout Paradise) then yes Activison Ubi soft ect wanna take a leaf out of their book reasonably priced or just free in burnouts case and last hours and hours, assassins creed £8-10 lasts you barely 2-3 hours and then the season pass' are a joke.
Killing them, 1, I dont buy nowhere the games I use to cause of the money. 2, if they going to charge in game they need to lower the price of games. Take EA new racer need for speed pay for Gas??? WTF is that, I won't buy it for sure,..then I was reading bout a game you had to pay to save you place in the game,.. WTF!!! Was reading pay to open more of the game,.. WTF!!.... I have been gaming for 35 yrs and don't enjoy it at all no more due to the in game cost,. DLC adds to the game I can see they, but to save games, gas, they just getting way to greedy... Look at EA madden MUT teams $59.99 then it can cost you up over $300.00 dollars or more to build a mut madden team, that's just crazy n takes all the enjoyment from the game...
DLC had ruined gaming for the past 7-8 years and given its commercial success (let's face it, DLC is one of the most successful ripoffs in the modern age), developers no longer have to deliver a complete package for 60 dollars. Gone are the days you spend less than 60 dollars for a game and actually have the entire game available to you.
Lol "saving" them?
Here is what I think is happening. Publishers and developers can't keep costs low enough to warrant a 60 dollar price tag, but NO ONE is ready to break from that model. They use DLC to make up the difference. This, of course, is just part of the picture. The other is the mobile gaming market that has shown that microtransaction can be exceedingly lucrative. So they are trying ot have their cake and eat it to. Vote with your wallets fellow gamers. Regardless of how awesome a game looks...if its not complete, don't buy it.
I don't buy games on release date anymore. I wait for them to go down to at least $30
You've got a point.
If it is DLC that expands upon the game in a good way and there has been a decent amount of time between the games launch and the DLC being released, then it can be a good thing. Look at the GTA4 DLC, that was released quite a while after GTA4 and it made the game so much better! If the DLC is already on the disc and you need to pay to access it *cough*Crapcom*cough*, has been pulled from the full game to sell additionally just to rob people *cough*Destiny*cough*, or the game is about 25% complete but you need to buy a season pass that costs as much as the base game to play the full game *cough*Evolve*cough* then it is killing the industry and leaving a bitter taste in gamers mouths!
Saving them ??? yeah sure, because we didn't cope without DLC in the past did we. DLC saving games shouldn't even be entering peoples thoughts. DLC is 95% bad and 5% good. It's bad for gaming.
