Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously though, it seems like on the home console side they are underpowered and gimmicky which doesn't cater to most of today's gamers. They also made the Wii U too complex for the demographic of non-gamers who made the Wii a smashing success to understand, but that stems from poor marketing more than anything.
Rock > Nintendo < Hard Place
They've got the most beloved exclusives in the industry but fail to capture an audience much larger than the hardcore fanbase because of these poor business decisions.
On the handheld side, they are continuously losing market share to the convienience of iOS and Android powered devices. Couple that with the repeated, minimalistic hardware revisions leaving most consumers feeling taken advantage of, and I fear they will not last much longer without a miracle.
Honestly, good luck Nintendo, I grew up with you and would hate to see you go.
