PS4 Exclusive The Order: 1886 - First Whole Hour of Gameplay Looks Spectacular

It was inevitable. With The Order: 1886 already in the hands of quite a few gamers, the first hour of gameplay has been published on Youtube.

Included is also a spoiler-free gallery of screen captures, for those that don't care for spoilers and prefer not to watch the videos.

It's absurd how good it looks. If it has an amazing story and even decent gunplay, it will live up to expectations and more.

Not to be prisoner of the moment, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a better looking game. The detail is insane, and the acting seems to be too notch. The cutscenes blend right into gameplay, and I may be seeing things, but the actual gameplay almost looks better.

Seriously, of the story is good, this game will be an instant hit. And its gotta be good. Great background and setup. Hopefully they don't fall into any tropes, and hopefully we get a few emotional moments. They are needed to make an impact.

Bioshock didn't have multiplayer neither did Shadow of Modor. Those games were received pretty well by the review scores. If the lack of multiplayer is a negative towards The Order than all these game journalist are contradicting themselves.

A game with multiplayer is an option not a necessity. That is what some reviewers fail to comprehend.

exactly, it was not about if the system could handle it..the developers clearly defined exactly why they chose it this way.

The choice, was to limit your gamer view on screen because they want you to feel the edge as if it was you right there with them. Its atmosphere building for suspence limiting your field of view will do that. Watch this with very lil light in your room playing the game...Hehehehehe.

With the only screen of light is the TV and all the area is pitch black. Its the effect of like a port whole view on a ship. A design where you are looking for more view of the surrounding's but just cannot quite reach that view and you fell trapped. Not in a box but trapped, you cannot view more at one time.

Guess we can have our day when some big Xbox exclusive decides to letterbox their game. it's bound to happen sooner or later....particularly if this game does well.

I personally won't though, because letterboxing doesn't bother me. I didn't even notice Beyond:Two Souls was letterboxed until my 2nd playthrough to work on the platinum. I probably wouldn't have noticed here either if people didn't harp on it so much.

Everybody complains and comments about Xbox One having lower resolution so they can comment on the bars. It's a valid concern, don't they effectively reduce the resolution by quite a bit? I thought all the fanboys said resolution is important

Except that the black bars doesn't reduce the resolution quality, It's still 1080p, except that up-down side of the screen are covered in black. It's a great idea to minimize the cost to push the hardware more on the visuals of the game. The resolution fidelity of 1080 is still there, and the black bars will prevent those 800p from upscaling. It's not the resolution which is bad, it's the actual up-scaling. Upscaling is basically like drawing on a balloon, and blow it up, and you can see the drawing stretching and starting to look washed out. and with the Black bars, it's merely just an different ratio with 1080p. I think i've explained enough that you could understand. I really don't like black bars, especially if it's extreme, but the black bars in this game isn't nowhere as bad as 80% of all 1080p movies with that type of ratio

I know what native and upscaled resolutions are. The fidelity may be there but the image is smaller. You're not getting a full 1080p picture only a portion. I'm not saying it's bad however I would rather have the full screen image even if they had to downgrade

Well, if the BLACK BARS is the biggest complaint concerning The Order, then I will take that. This game has an incredible cinematic look. Which, as I may add. Has always been part of [email protected] vision. So, hurrah (Victorian stylie) to the black bars.

The whole reason people worry about resolution is because of picture quality, not how BIG the picture is. The quality is the same. In fact it's better, that any other game you've played on a console.

So What's the problem? 3 inches of black at the top and bottom of your screen? Is your tv so small? You look at the top and bottom of your screen all you like. I won't be taking my eyes off the middle. This is really just nit picking given what's being offered here.

The aspect ratio was announce right from the start, no one's been hoodwinked here. Anyone still complaining about it is just good at holding a grudge, or wasn't interested in the first place.

Think of it as taking a 120° panorama picture with your phone or camera. The bars are there to push the picture on screen wider on the sides and still be able to fit properly on your display.

What I mean is what isn't being rendered in height in being rendered in perceived width. Yes, the picture is "smaller" as far as total screen coverage, but it gives you a completely different FOV.

I personally can't wait to play it, as it looks absolutely stunning.

I'm not sure why anyone should be complaining and behaving as if the black bars are some new revelation only just discovered like today. They announced this in November 2013 in Game in former that the game sports a 21:9 aspect ratio as a deliberate design choice! Why is everyone complaining about something that was known since the game was announced. sounds like something else to complain about now because the game on hand is showing that its incredible!

Someone mentioned this the other day, and I think it might help you. If you don't like the way it looks with the black bars on the PS4, then you probably won't like the way it looks on other consoles...

... and the uniforms... i hope it takes a long time for those people to dislodge their feet from their mouths because the ones shown above are the exact same ones from the early builds we were shown that were allegedly "downgraded." it was fairly obvious that those secondary uniforms we saw were contextual to whatever part of the story that footage was taken from.
