The Order: 1886 promises to be a fantastic game - and single-player only. This is not a bad thing; in fact, it promises to be a huge success amongst gamers.
As a single-player only player, I sure hope that they're not dead--although they do seem to be dying a slow but sure death.
you can say that again. this game is not the savior of single player im not even getting it
Thank you for your pointless impact your a credit to pointless thing to say fair play.
there's no point in you getting it because you don't own a ps4. that would just be silly~
You sound like one of those bots that post stuff not even related to the article but word it in a way that maybe just MAYBE the stupidest person in the world wouldn't realize it.
So you have absolutely no interest in even trying it, but you can claim matter-of-factly that it wont be the savior of SP.. Im gonna play it with an open mind and hopefully i'll be surprised
Who says single player games are dead? As a matter of fact, more gamers prefer a single player campaign over a multiplayer only campaign. Perfect examples are Tomb Raider (Had a multiplayer mode that no one plays) Wolfenstein Shadow Of Mordor Outlast P.T. The Last Of Us single player mode Infamous Second Son Dying Light single player The Evil Within The Walking Dead Life Is Strange Multiplayer and co-op are great in some game genres, but utterly useless and pointless in others. Multiplayer works for... MMOs RPGs Fighting games Multiplayer shooters Co-op and multiplayer is not needed to make a game worth buying and multiplayer doesn't add to replay value. The only reason people come to that conclusion is because of sales numbers for "multiplatform" first person shooters that center around multiplayer. What these same people fail to take into account is the number of sales for single player games combined far surpass sales number for online multiplayer oriented games, which means that more gamers prefer single player games, I have played several games that have shoe-horned multiplayer and I have never played any of them. Multiplayer shooter games don't interest me. Games like Destiny, Guild Wars, and Street Fighter, I'M ALL IN. Running around with a gun trying to shoot other players nullifies any sense of immersion which is the primary reason I play video games,
I'm in the same boat as you. I prefer single-player games, but a lot of companies seem to think they need to shoehorn multiplayer into every thing that comes out.
I disagree:Wolfenstein, telltale ganes,Dragon Age Inquisition,The Witcher 3,Metal Gear Solid V,Uncharted 4,Mirror's Edge 2,The Last Of Us,Minecraft(Yes it counts),Final Fantasy XV,Bioshock Infinite,Life is Strange,Just Cause 3, Persona 5, ect ect ect....... So no, single player games are not dying at all.
who has ever said single player is dead? some clueless noob?
exactly!! Single player is nowhere near "dead" and if you think it is, your a bloody moron.
The witcher 3? Batman? doesnt seem to be dead games so to speak
Agree. I'll list some more! Wolfenstein the new order South Park Stick of Truth Far Cry Series Assassin's Creed Series Fallout 3 Elder Scrolls Series Diablo 3 - I play solo Path of Exile - I play solo Bioshock Series Max Payne 3 Shadow of Mordor The Evil Within I think they get the idea.
The media sure loves to proclaim the death of things. 1) Death of PC gaming 2) Death of console gaming 3) Death of physical media 4) Death of single player games Enough already. It must be tiring trying so desperately to be the "smartest person in the room."
I think is already dead for PC, I mean you cant sell, trade, or rent PC games. So once you beat the game, thats it. It has to have a ton of replay value.
We have had a bunch of games recently that prove single player only isnt dead. Alien Isolation, Bioshock Infinite and Metro Last Light were all great games. If The Order is great then its just more proof that every game doesnt need multiplayer. Does anyone know if they are going to release a demo for The Order?? Would like to try it out.
I'd like to try it as well, don't think they will before release though. Think I'll be getting it anyway but it's so expensive in the UK for some reason :\
Well written bravo best article iv read in quite a while.
Wait single player games are dead?
No but there is an vocal opposition to them. Apparently multiplayer has to be in everything, even if it turns out bad. Tomb Raider reboot could've been even better if the resources wasted on multiplayer, would've gone into the singleplayer campaign.
Nope. Last gen, and still this gen, less than all console owners pay for online access to games. More games get released as SP than MP only or SP/MP. SP isn't dead, nor is the lack of MP the death of a games sales. Even in FPS where MP is expected, games like BioShock Infinite prove that it's not necessary to get strong sales.
I'm one of those gamer's that really don't care about MP's anymore. Give me a solid campaign with an intrigued storyline and i'm set.
I'm right there with you. Yes, I do play the occasional multi match in COD and Titanfall and I'm really looking forward to Splatoon, but for me, single player is where the heart is.
Man, there's so much speculation surrounding this game and many different opinions on the small parts we've been shown. It's not often I'm this excited for reviews to come out. I hope the game ends up spectacular of course.
What's exciting about reviews? Just give me the game lol.
Single Player games are dead? Who said that?
Who said single player games were ever "dying" in the first place? That would be a very sad industry. A good MP game occasionally sprinkled in with some primarily SP focused games is perfect for me.
There were some people saying that the lack of MP would hurt The Order's sales, which was taken a bit further to say that MP is where it's at nowadays. It's rediculous complaint, and there are more SP players in the world than there are MP players in the world. The reason so many publishers push MP though is because DLC tends to have a higher attach rate with online content.
If single player games are dead then mp games are cocooned in annals of space time hurtling toward obscurity. Can't remember the last time a good mp game came out. I'm still playing csgo and tlou factions... Single player is holding the gaming industry up imo.
This ia [email protected]'s first attempt on a home console. Give them a break. Maybe the next entry to the series might include multiplayer but this is their first big attempt at a AAA console game.
I don't think anyone said that single player games died. I enjoyed a lot of single player games, like God of War, Devil May Cry, Killer is Dead, Bayonetta...it's just some games were made for multiplayer and a game like this has tons of potential for being a great multi and co-op experience.
local Co-op would have been awesome, and a good way to showcase the graphical fidelity and game play of this game to friends that may or may not have read/heard some of the bad press. I really wouldn't have cared for the Order team death match or capture the flag though. I am pretty much a SP only kind of guy. the shooters have all been pretty stale, and the poor dead horse has been beaten to a pulp, and the Nbombs, Bro chatter, and annoying rap coming thru mics pretty piss me off as an old man now.
Games like Wolfenstein was a excellent single player game, I hope there is a more upswing on single player games as mulitplayer is good, but its just a big over-saturation of them, time to shift gears now and then and deliver a solid single game experience some more.
Of course they aren't dead.
Single player only game arent' dead at all. My only issue is how long will the single player only game be? If it's less than 10 hour of actually gameplay then I can see it being worth a $65 price tag. Any single player game nowadays better be at least 10 hours or more for me to spend $65 on it or i'll just wait until they lower the price and pick it up then.
Isn't Arkham Knight single player and they say single players games are dead?
Well, there have been articles that have come out asking if games without MP would fail, and quite a few commenters that complain when a game doesn't have multiplayer, that it's easy to see why someone would think that the single player experience is dead or dying.
They were saying that last-gen yet Bioshock infinite proved the critics wrong again but then again the franchise had already been doing well.
I'm still on the fence on this game, but not for the reasons that others have brought up. I personally didn't like the batman games, why? I'm embarrassed to say but it was the camera angle. It's not quite right behind the character, it's a bit off to the right. IDK why but I just couldn't get use to it... I'm seeing the same camera angle in The Order as I did in the batman games. I'll still buy it to give it a try, but I have my reservations.
This year alone proves that single-player games are current-ten's salvation from online disconnections. Arkham Knight, Infamous: Second Son, Shadow of Mordor, and The Witcher 3 alone have or will prove why online multiplayer isn't the only answer to what people want, besides just The Order: 1886.
i only buy single player focused games
If single player games end I won't be a gamer anymore.
I and millions of others play single player games primarily. Multiplayer is both tedious and redundant and if game developers as a whole shifted away from single player I will quit gaming completely and I guarantee plenty of others will too.
Amen to that!!
single player games arent dead but I wouldnt buy a game like this for 60 either. Linear game only 10 hours of gameplay does not sound like a great way to spend money. Plenty of games that get you way more gameplay even if you played through it twice which most wont it still is 20 hours tops
